Chapter 07

~Samara~

By the time I was done dressing and slipped my feet into the silver stiletto. Vlad was home.

We were interrupted by a brief knock on the door.

“Mrs. Samara the Alpha is here. You shouldn’t keep him waiting.” Mara grinned wildly at me.

“I’m ready.” I frown at her and grabbed the clutch purse and made my way out of the room.

I met Vlad outside the door, his disapproving eyes scanning my appearance, his frown growing harsher but he said nothing and head out leaving me behind.

I took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

It wasn’t because I wanted to go with him if he hadn’t forced me to.

I wanted to scream at him.

Did I tell him that I wanted to go to the Gala with him?

I didn’t come here for this!

I mentally yelled.

“I know you hate the jerk, can you stop yelling.” Lana purred tiredly.

“Shut up.” I snarled and climbed down the stairs.

“Do not take your anger out on me. I hate you just as he does.” I could feel her roll her eyes and retreat.

Fine!

I groaned and walked gently on the stair.

Watching Vlad receding figure, he looked so good in the black tuxedo and terrifying aura.

I met him outside the mansion where his Lamborghini was packed, he was seated and with a frown.

I got into the car and sat next to him.

“Hi, Sam.” Xylan glanced at me through the mirror with a small smile. He was the one driving the car.

With a tight-lipped smile, I replied to him and Vlad shot me a stare.

“Let’s go,” He ordered and Xylan ignited the car and drives off the mansion into the late night.

“It’s a mask party, do not worry about your identity being exposed.” His eyes flickered with irritation and he didn’t glance at me.

I decide to let out the question that has been bothering me.

“Why did you ask me to come with you to the Gala? You should have left me behind!” I raised my voice a little bit. Vlad tilted his head to my side and glared at me but he didn’t say anything and averted his gaze from my face.

“I would have looked stupid going alone, you don’t have to worry. Your presence won’t be needed when we get to the Gala.”

I clenched my fist and forced my burning gaze away from my narrowed face.

Asshole.

We got to the place the moonlight Gala was taking place, I saw the fleets of expensive cars all around as I stepped out we walked into the hall.

A gasp escaped my lips, as I took turns staring at everyone that passes me, their dresses and their companion looked stunning.

It was probably Alphas and their Luna and Beta and a few nobles of higher ranks.

Vlad grabs a delicate flute of champagne from the waiter and shoved a mask into my hands.

I took them and wore them over my face.

“Alpha Vlad.” A short man was heading our way with a glass in his hands.

Xylan had darted into the crowds.

“I thought you weren’t coming, if I hadn’t called you, you won’t have...What a beau...” His hand was extended out to me.

“Take your eyes off her, Roger!” Vlad roared angrily at him and a dark look crossed his features. filled with anger, he looked as if he would destroy the world and everything in it.

I chuckled nervously and took Roger’s hand and he looked more terrified.

I forced a light laugh to ease the tension.

“Is she the one?” Roger retrieved his steps away from me and looked directly at Vlad. Vlad close the distance between them and whispered into Roger’s ears.

His body trembled in fright and Vlad pulled me and smirked.

“Alright then, Alpha Vlad. Enjoy the party.” He scurried off and didn’t spare us a glance.

“What did you say to him?” I narrowed my gaze back to Vlad, what could he have said that made the man trembles that way? He twirled the mask in his hands, and slowly held my gaze a lazy smile played on his lips.

He stood towering over me, his head slightly bent, I could feel his breath on my face and my chest was rising and falling a bit faster.

“I told him that you were a witch. You know how much wolves hate witches.” He draws closer to me and chuckled amusingly.

I clutched my hand into a ball.

“You once killed a wolf.”

“Is that so, Alpha Vlad?” I gritted my teeth at him with my jaw jutting and my veins throbbing in my neck.

He lift my jaw with his finger and touched my lower lips with his thump.

“Did I say a lie?” His finger caressed my lip slowly.

‘Kick his balls’ Lana snarled.

That’s what I should do but why can’t I move an inch from where I stand and let Vlad touch me like a fool?

‘Get a hold of yourself, Samara.’ Lana growled.

‘Push him away, Samara, or just let me do it. I could fucking kill him.’

‘You can’t, he’s an Alpha. He’s stronger than you think I shook my head to stop him from doing anything silly.

‘An alpha that rejects his mate loses one-third of his powers. Vlad knows that much more than I did’

“I...I...”

“Alpha Vlad.” Someone called and Vlad moved away from me before I could say anything else.

I saw a few eyes pointing at me and gossiping among a few ladies in the hall, I kept my hands at my side a bit nervous.

Vlad was the only one I know here so I had to stay close to him.

“Alpha Vlad Hayes.” The voice became louder as he stepped closer to us, behind him was a lady with a perfect figure with stood out in place and long curly red-brown hair.

He beamed and stretched out his hands to Vlad and he took them. Vlad’s hand tightened over the older man who appeared to be in his mid-thirties.

The man’s face crinkled up but he force a smile on his lips and Vlad refused to let go of his hand.

“Uncle Eric.” The lady behind the man snapped at him and he tried to draw his hand away from Vlad.

I gave Vlad a slanted look and he let go of his hand, he seems to be enjoying it and the man bared his head in submission.

“Beta Eric.” Vlad greeted with a slight bow.

“The Alpha wants to meet you, he’s over there.” Eric pointed vertically to where we stood, true to his words. A tall man which was probably the Alpha and his Luna stood with a glass.

He wants Vlad to meet him, he must be a powerful Alpha.

I expected Vlad to walk away with the Beta but he grabbed another drink from the waiter and took a sip.

“Your father needs me, Veronica. I would not move an inch from here, do not expect that I would stoop so low to your Alpha.” He growled and chugged down the glass of champagne.

“I thought you would be a good match, your father is the one who needs me and you need me to be Luna.”

I can feel my heart pounding as if fissures are already starting to emerge with each palpitation. What was going on?

What was Vlad talking about?

The lady beside Eric took her mask away from her face and glanced over at me quickly before taking her gaze back to Vlad.

“Vlad we talked about this, and I’m you arrange...I’m your mate! You shouldn’t disrespect my father.” Veronica was angry and she didn’t mind that she was attracting more eyes to us, and they were staring at me in particular.

Like I wasn’t the one who belonged there.

Did they know about Vlad's arranged mate already and she was claiming to be Vlad’s mate?

That was why they were staring at me, I was the escort, snooping around the Alpha Vlad.

Maybe I should leave, I don't think I can take the glares and whispering any longer.

“You know I would be here, why did you bring some bitch over? This would be in the media, there are many reporters here and they need to capture our moments together.” Veronica lowered her voice and shoved me aside and was standing next to Vlad.

My heart hammered against my chest and I couldn’t lift my head grateful for the mask on my face.

“Do not talk to her like that.” Vlad snarled.

“Our binding ceremony is still a month away, you told me you weren’t interested in this event,” Vlad whispered to her.

That was why he took me here as a replacement for her.

I wanted to get away from them. I'm aware that every pair of eyes are trained on me, watching my reaction to this public embarrassment I'm facing. Whispers fill the hall, growing louder and louder until the room is positively buzzing about me.

“Who is she?” I heard Veronica ask and she spun me around immediately and snatched the mask off my face.

“You...!”
