Chapter 16
Amelia's POV
"What do you mean? What happened?"
"Where's Alden? Where did you go that you left him all alone? I got back and the room was empty."
"I'm sorry, babe, I was just trying to help you."
"Help me?" She scoffed and wiped off the tear that escaped the corner of her eyes. "Is this what you call help? The only help you could have done and that would be appreciated was if you took care of my brother but here you are, dressed like this and claiming you were trying to help."
"I know all I'm saying might make no sense to you but trust me, I'm sure we'll be able to find him."
"No!" She shook her head and pointed a finger at me. "There is no longer we in this. We are done and I don't ever want to see your face again." She cussed and rushed to the cop that was walking to us.
Agatha's POV.
I left Amelia and hurried to the cop that was coming our way, he's part of the cops searching for Alden.
"Did you find anything?"
"Not at all, Ms. Agatha. I'm sorry but there seem to be no trace of breaking into your hotel room or any sign of violence, the UV light proved that."
"So, that's just it? My brother is just going to disappear and nobody knows where the hell he went or who might have taken him?" I snapped in a teary voice.
"We'll keep working on the case, Ms, Agatha. That's just the update for now."
"Okay then........" Amelia butted in.
"What about the CCTV camera? Have you checked that? Alden isn't the type that just wander around, someone must have attacked him."
"Well, we won't be in this mess if you had stayed with him." I mumbled underneath my breath but she paid me no attention.
"Sure, we might get a clue from the CCTV." The cop said and headed back into the hotel, we followed him.
Though the mere sight of Amelia disgust me at the moment, I know she also care about Alden and had taken him as her brother and I can't deny her of any fact of letting her know how he's faring.
"I'll like to see the CCTV footage of last night especially the one that leads to Ms. Agatha's room." The cop said to the receptionist at the counter but she hesitated.
"I'm sorry, sir but that won't be possible. It's against the rules and regulations of this hotel."
"Really?" He scoffed, smacked his lower lip and buried his hands in his pocket. "Do you know what this hotel........" He emphasised on the last word while his gaze gyrated the hotel.
"........ Would be in if you don't allow me see the footage? A boy went missing here, I think that would go well with your rules and regulations." He hissed.
The lady was about to reply him when a man who happens to be the manager of the company emerged from the door and walked to us.
"What's going on here?" He asked politely, his gazes darting from each one of us to another.
"He is requesting to see the CCTV footage of last night." The lady said and the manager looked at the cop.
"And why is that, if I may ask?"
"A boy went missing from this hotel, all that could be done has been done but nothing to proof anything or lead us to where the boy might be. So, I need to check the CCTV footage to further the investigation."
"Oh!" He shifted his gaze to the lady. "Show him the way to the CCTV room."
"But, sir......." The manager glared at her and she kept mute.
She showed us the way to the CCTV room and we went there.
The cop sat down with the engineers while Amelia and I stood with her gazes glued to the screen.
"Here is the CCTV from last night." One of the engineers said.
We all watched in silence for a while but there was nothing out of the ordinary until the cop noticed something, a few minutes later.
"Pause it." He said and stared at the screen.
"Why is this CCTV footage missing 10 minutes?" He turned to the engineers seated by his left and he shrugged his shoulder.
"That's a fat lie, you're the one in charge of watching the camera. There's no way ten minutes would have gone by without your notice."
"Ten minutes is more than enough to kidnap a boy." I muttered.
"You're right." The cop said and turned to the engineer. "And this hotel knows something about the crime, starting from him."
The cop arrested the engineer and drove him to their office while I went to the hotel room to pack my belongings.
"Where are you going now?" Amelia asked but I ignored her and continued packing.
"Really? Are you just going to ignore me now?"
"You really can't be serious are you? You're going to leave without me?" She asked after I finished packing and was about to leave the room.
"Leave without you? No! I want to live without you so get the hell out of my life."
"Is that so? After all I've sacrificed for you? To be with you? I left my studies, my life and ran down here to help you keep your sanity. While you're out there in the world, exploring and seeing new things, I'm in the corner of these four walls looking after your brother and this one time I went out, it's all my fault?"
"Yes!" I snapped at her with my finger pointed at her. "It was your fault, you could have called me you were tired of babysitting my brother and I would have found a better to keep him safe."
"Okay, if that be the case, I'll find him and bring him back to you so you can take him to the safer place in your mind." She scoffed and sprinted out of the house before I could utter any more word.
