Chapter 2
Agatha's POV.
A few moments later, Amelia came back and came to where I was. She patted my shoulder and I threw myself at her for a hug.
“She still had a lot to do. I wanted her to see me become a judge, Amelia.” I sobbed like a baby, but she was mute and only patted my back.
Hours later, I had calmed down a bit and Amelia had called an ambulance; I followed them while they took her to the mortuary and left Alden with Amelia. After doing the necessary things, I headed back home.
“Thanks, Amelia. I really appreciate this.” I said to her in a low tone.
“It's fine. That's what family do. I'll have to leave now.”
I wonder why she kept talking about family.
“Okay then.” I said and saw her off.
I tucked Alden to bed and went to my room. Furthermore, I sat on the bed, thinking of who might have wanted my mom dead. It's been sixteen years since we left the Pack and had been living peaceful. I couldn't get myself to sleep, thinking of how I had become an orphan by someone. I don't know what our offense was, but I soon nodded off and had another terrible dream.
Furthermore, I found myself in a dark room, I was walking around it and trying to find my way out until I heard a voice echo. It was my mom, but her voice was not calm this time. Rather, it was full of bitterness and enraged.
“You are a coward!”
“You deserve to be where I am right now!” Her words echoed loudly in my ears, and even covering them with my hands didn't help.
“Mom? What did I do wrong? I tried my best, didn't I?”
“Your best?” Her voice came like a bell ringing hard in my head, followed by a loud menacing laughter.
“You did nothing. I gave you your father's last word, but you did nothing. You chose to live away from it and wanted a peaceful life.”
“A peaceful life? You know what I was going through. I was going to be a judge and bring those that killed dad to justice.”
“I guess I'm now added to the list?” She scoffed and continued. “His legacy! That is what he needs from you!”
“That is what he needs from you.” Her voice kept echoing in my head till I woke up.
I was sweating profusely and panting; Alicia would have come in to calm me down, but she's now only in my head.
“Legacy?” I whispered to myself after I had calmed down a bit.
I only knew my parents to be a fabric seller, nothing more. Not only that, but I don't know what they mean by legacy and regardless of what happens, I have promised myself to kill those that killed my dad. Looking at the clock in the corner of my room, it was dawn already.
I would have gone to work after I got home yesterday, but couldn't because of the incident. I got out of bed and made something for Alden to eat while I went to mom's room. The memory of her butchered body did not justice to the headache I was having as I stared at the room.
I began to search through her things and found a picture of dad and a strange man.
“I've never seen this man, and I know when dad brought this clothes.” I thought, but was interrupted by a knock on the main door.
I hid the picture and went to the door; it was Amelia, and I let her in.
“Aren't you supposed to be in school?” I asked after we sat down.
“After what happened to you yesterday? I can't. I have to be here with you.”
“Thanks.” I huffed.
“You seemed to be bothered, and it's obvious it's not about yesterday's incident, mind sharing it?”
“My mom..... I had a dream about her this morning, and she called me a coward. Said I should protect my dad's legacy.”
“What legacy?” She asked, but before I could reply, Alden interrupted us.
“Good morning, Agatha and Amelia.” He said in a weak tone.
I got up and hugged him in a tight embrace.
“I made your fave. Go get something to eat and we'll go meet mom.” I said, my voice betraying me as I became cranky.
He nodded and went to the dining room while I went back to Amelia.
“What legacy were you talking about?”
“I also don't know. In fact, I'm confused on what to do.”
My phone rang, it was Mr. Adams, my boss calling.
“Hello.”
“Hey, Agatha!” He yelled. “Why were you not at work yesterday? Don't force me to get you replaced.” He snapped.
“I lost my mom yesterday.” I imitated Alicia's calm voice in a way I couldn't explain.
“And so? I have no mother either. You better return to work today or forget about it.”
“I was going to ask for a week's break, Mr. Adams.” I said, almost moved to tears.
“You're laid off!” He grunted and hung up.
I lowered the phone on the chair with a deep huff.
“What happened?”
“I just lost my job. It's going to be difficult to feed now or pay for my mom's funeral.”
“I'll shoulder the bills, you don't need to worry about that.” She said, and my eyes lit up.
“Thanks a bunch!” I said in a scattered voice.
“It's fine. We need to find your dad's legacy and protect it.”
“I saw a strange picture in my mom's room just now.”
“Can I take a look?”
“Sure!” I said.
Alden was also done with his breakfast and followed us to the room. Though, he was still traumatized, he seems to be fighting hard to be strong. I brought out the picture from where I hid it and showed it to Amelia.
Amelia's hands began to shake when she saw the strange man.
“Is anything wrong? Are you okay?” I asked, panicked.
“He…. He is the killer."
