Chapter 7

Addison's POV.

“What do you mean by that, babe?” She asked curiously.

“It's nothing.”

“Which hospital are you? I'm coming now.”

“Alison, don't you think it's late? I'll get myself discharged tomorrow and come back home. I mean, you don't have to sweat over nothing.”

“You better start talking now before I get you to talk.” She gritted her teeth and I can tell she's about to explode with rage at the moment.

“Fine, baby. You don't have to threaten me, you know. I'm at Thompson hospital.”

“What's the ward number?”

“Ward 112.” I responded in a low voice, and she ended the call.

I let out a sigh of relief and confusion as I lowered the phone in my hand to my thigh.

Alison's POV.

I grabbed my car keys, sprinted out of the room and through the stairs. About to grab the knob when I heard a voice.

“Is anything the problem, Alison?” Uncle Achan asked in his usual naive tone as he walked in on me.

I turned back to him with a fake smile that I managed to spread across my face, “It's nothing, Uncle Achan.”

“What I can see in you is more than that, you don't have to lie to me because you know I would never buy that from you.”

Yeah, ever since I came into Addison's life, he has been the warmest person to me. I would have married him, but I know that would be the craziest thing I whoever think of.

“I'm being serious. It's really nothing.” I lied again, hoping he was going to buy it this time, but it failed.

“You know you can always tell me anything, what's going on?”

“It is Addison......”

“What about him, dear?”

“He called in just now and told me he's in the hospital. I'm on my way to see him.”

“Well, it's late, so I can't let you go on your own. I'll come with you.”

“You really don't have to, Uncle Achan.”

“I have to, this is my cousin we're talking about here.” He snapped softly.

Without uttering any more word, he grabbed his car key from the table and motioned me to follow him out. We stepped out of the house, got in the car while he ignited the car into motion and drove to the hospital.

An awkward silence clouded the car as we journeyed to Thompson hospital. So as plenty of thoughts ran through my mind.

“What if Addison is seriously hurt?”

“What if he could barely speak? Has an internal complication?”

“How did this happen in the first place? Wasn't he supposed to go convince his mate?”

I thought of plenty of questions, but had no answers to any of it.

“Maybe I shouldn't have forced him into going after his mate.” I concluded in my thoughts.

“Are you okay, Alison?” Uncle Achan's voice cut in deeply through my thoughts as he patted my shoulder gently.

I shrugged at the feel of the pat and looked at him, confused.

“Yes…. Yes, I'm fine.”

“You don't look fine to me. I know how much you care about him, but I'm sure he would be fine.” He assured me and motioned me to step out of the car.

We stepped out of the car and with each step I took closer to the hospital entrance, I skipped a beat. Finally, we got to the reception and were lucky enough to find a nurse on a seat.

“Good evening, Miss. We're here to see Addison.”

Before the nurse could go through the system for his name, a woman of about my age approached me with a concerned looked contorted with a scoff.

“If I may ask, who are you? And why are you here to ask about Addison?” Her voice was soft, though her tone wasn't.

Judging from her looks, I could tell who she is; she's Agatha, Addison's mate.

“Agatha?” I asked, and she stared at me in disbelief.

“How did you know my name?”

“Are we here for some sort of interrogation, Alison? We're here to see Addison.”

“I know, but we can only see him through this woman here.” I scoffed softly.

“I'm a friend of his and this is his uncle, Uncle Achan by name.”

Agatha's POV.

The worries of having to protect Addison from who shot him or who was trying to me didn't allow me to notice the man standing beside the woman. As I lifted my eyes to meet his gaze, I was shocked to see that he was the same person I saw in the picture with my dad. He was equally shocked to see me.

Nervously shaking under my breath, I tried to comport myself, but I could tell I didn't do an impressive job at that.

“You can go see him, he's at ward 112.” I said but failed to hide my shaking lips.

My hands were also shaking terribly and beads of sweat began to form on my forehead, down to my body.

“Thanks.” The lady responded with a smile, and they walked toward the ward.

As I watched the retreating figures, I felt a surge of fear and insecurity wash down my spines. At this point, I just wanted to go back to my family, but Addison saved my life. It would bad of me to leave without letting him know.

I took a second to take a deep breath, after which I went to the ward. The atmosphere in the room was weird, I felt like they were hiding something from me.

Of course, they are. How on earth would they explain how Addison is my obsessed mate and his Uncle is my family murderer?

I could tell that the hand was holding his hand, but she wriggled it out the moment I stepped into the room. Ignoring it and not giving it much meaning, I approached Addison.

“It's getting late, I have to go home now. My family would be sick worried about me now, and I still need to get to work tomorrow.” I tried my best to keep my voice firm.

“Why don't I drop you off?” Uncle Achan offered.

My heart left my body for a second.
