Chapter 8

Agatha's POV.

“Thanks for the kind gesture, sir, but I'll be fine.” I forced a smile, trying my best to avoid any eye contact with him.

Mere feeling his presence in the room makes my body shiver, I can't imagine letting him drive me to where the rest of my family are.

“Addison told us all about what happened, I know how frightened you would be now. I just want to help.”

“I understand your point as well, sir, but I'm not frightened, and I can go home myself.”

“Well.....” He stood up to his feet. “I insist.” He said with a soft chuckle.

“That's fine, Uncle Achan. I trust that she will be fine.” Addison butted in and turned his gaze to me. “Stay safe and have a good night of rest.”

I nodded and swiftly retreated from the ward. With each step I took, I felt like Uncle Achan's eyes were glued to me.

I sat in the waiting room for a while and ordered for a taxi. After some minutes, the taxi arrived, and I made sure to look around well, tried to lick Uncle Achan's scent, but there was none around, so I stepped out of the hospital and got into the taxi.

The driver revved the car into motion and after about ten minutes, we were in front of the hotel. I stepped out of the car and walked into the hotel, but I was completely lost in my own thoughts.

“What if he finds out about Amelia and Alden? Will he try to kill them the way he attempted to kill me tonight?”

“Is Addison even my real mate? What if all of these were made up to get to us?”

“Should we get out of this place too? Run to somewhere far where nobody knows our name?”

“How would I even break this news to Amelia?”

I thought; different and plenty of thoughts ran through my mind, but all remained unanswered and perplexed.

I heard someone call my name, shaking me out of my thoughts, and I looked back in the direction of the voice; it was Amelia and I had passed our room.

“What the hell are you thinking about?” She snapped as I walked in on her.

“I'm sorry.” I said in a faint voice as I made my way into the room.

She followed me and we both sat on the edge of the bed. I don't know how she manages to read me so well, but she's excellent at it.

“What's wrong, babe?” She asked, her voice filled with concern, and she held my hand.

“Nothing.” My voice cracked.

“You can't tell me it's nothing when you're like this. You know you can always talk to me. What's going on?” She inquired.

But I was too emotional to speak, so I just threw myself at her for a hug. She patted my back gently and after a while, she made me lay down on the bed.

While stroking my hair, she assured me that everything was going to be fine.

“It's only a matter of time. We will get through all of these.” Her eyes glistened with tears building up.

We both slept and the next morning, I decided not to go to work and woke up late. Amelia was shocked to see me in bed after she returned from her morning workout.

“Hey, girl. Why are you still home?” She asked while her hands tried to open a bottle of water.

“I'm not feeling too well, I'm just going to skip a day at work.”

“Have you called your boss to inform him about it?”

“Not yet, I doubt he would even notice. We are too much at work.”

“If you say so.” She shrugged her shoulders and sat on the edge of the bed, using the back of her palm to feel my temperature.

“You want to talk about what happened last night? I've been sick and worried about you, you think I need to know?” She asked, and my gaze fell on Alden who was busy playing with his toys on the floor.

“Pay him no attention.” She waved her hand. “Beside, he's family, and ought to know what's going on, regardless of his age.” She concluded, and I seconded her suggestion.

“Okay then. I'm just going to make it quick and short.” I paused to catch my breath.

“The killer tried to kill me last night when I went out with Addison.” I said, and she gasped, her hands covering her mouth.

“What? How did that happen? And you went on a date with Addison? How come I didn't know about that?” She teased with her last sentence.

“Is that what's important right now?” I scolded her, curling my lips in disgust.

“I'm sorry about that, but what exactly does this man wants from us?” She asked rhetorically and shrugged my shoulders in response.

“I don't know, and that's what we need to find out. But that isn't the interesting part of it.”

“Really?” Her eyes brightened as she adjusted her position and listened to me with rapt attention.

“I think I've met the killer.”

She gasped softly and lunged her upper body back a bit.

“Why would you say that? I can't believe that because if you had met him truly, you won't be alive now.”

“Did I even tell you how I escaped his bullet?”

“No, how?”

“Addison took the bullet for me.”

“He loves you that much?” She blushed softly, but my gaze fell on my hand as I twisted them together.

“I don't think he does.”

“Why would you say that? Someone took a bullet for you, and you still don't believe he loves you? You must have a stone as a heart.” She poked my chest.

“I sense that this was all planned. Maybe he knew me even before he met me, and that was the reason he took the bullet for me. To make me think that he loves me.”

“What do you mean?”

“His Uncle might be the killer........ He was the one who tried to kill me. “
