CHAPTER 2
It has been quite a long journey for Rachel and George Hugh. They have gone past a few very memorable landmarks and had the vehicle break down a couple of times but Iliana on the other hand, found the journey quite interesting.
The time was 10pm and they had just arrived at Silver Creek. It was not the best time for them to arrive, they all thought. Their arrival by the time caught quite a lot of attention from the town security. The were stopped at a checkpoint.
“Good evening.” The security person in charge greeted.
“Good evening, sir.” The driver greeted. A bright light was run all over their faces and it was turned off.
“Your ID?” The security person asked.
They all brought out their IDs and handed it to the security person. He scanned them in a small machine for authenticity. He handed it back to them. “State your purpose of visiting Silver Creek.”
“We are movers. My brother and I thought of a place to begin our lives anew away from parents and we found Silver Creek to be a wonderful place. We have reservations already.” Rachel intervened.
“Give me a moment.” The officer said as he went to make a call and make quick finding.
“Stuar—George, I have a strange feeling about that officer. He seems human but something isn’t right with him.” Iliana observed the officer as he made the call.
“I noticed it too. I’m suddenly on my guard.”
The officer finished his call and approached their vehicle.
“You may go in. One of my men will lead you to where you can park your vehicle.”
“Thank you.”
They started their vehicle and witnessed a small bike in front of them. It had a little boy who rode it.
“Follow him.” They began to move with the boy on the bike.
The vehicle was parked at a large parking lot with guidance from the boy. The town was quite awake, very unlike Shadow Town, they thought. All the light were illuminating. The people moved freely even by the late hour. It makes sense they could move freely, they had nothing to fear by this time.
“Send a text to Samuel, tell him we’ve arrived.” George said to Rachel
“Don’t bother.” Samuel said from behind.
“Samuel.”
“Stuart. Iliana. It has been quite a while.”
“It’s George and Rachel now. George and Rachel Hugh.” George corrected.
“I was informed. Anyway, let’s get you to your rooms.”
Samuel, a spy that was sent to Silver Creek for 2years, led them to their rooms. Silver Creek seemed pretty much lively even at 11pm. Obviously, the citizens have no clue that a dangerous pack of werewolves that was buried for their peace and the pack of other packs has been resurrected.
“We’re here.” They are met with a building filled with rooms. It was a motel of some sort. “You know your room numbers, I believe. Go to your rooms and come to Room 012 afterwards. There’s something I have to tell you two about…you know what. Go on.” Samuel said to them.
Rachel’s room, room 9 and George’s room, room 10 were found at the upper level of the building. Rachel entered her room, it was small and smelled dusty. It had a medium sized bed that was well made. She walked around the room. It had a small bathroom and a tiny kitchen. It wasn’t the most comfortable but she’ll manage. It’s just for three months. She kept her bag beside and looked at the time, it was 11:54pm. She headed off to Room 012, Samuel’s room.
George was already there when she arrived, they had already started discussing about something.
“It’s surprising how such dangerous pack could stay hidden for two years. How did you even find out, Samuel?” George asked before Rachel shut the door.
“Well, let’s say I have my ways. Now that you two are here, I’ve got a question to ask.”
George and Rachel paid close attention
“Did you notice anything suspicious before coming into this town?” Samuel asked
George and Rachel tried remembering everything they saw and everyone they might’ve encountered. Then they remembered.
“That officer…” Rachel began
“What about the officer?” Samuel asked
“He-He felt strange. Different. There was something about him I nor George could point out.”
“That’s because he’s a werewolf but isn’t like us.”
“Isn’t like us? How is that even possible?” George questioned.
“I thought so too but I once witnessed him transform. It was an enormous werewolf I’ve never seen before. I can’t even say what it is but he…is not the only one like that.”
“There are more?” Rachel wondered
“I’m afraid so. There’s more to this and it regards the alpha of this pack. I fear there’s more than just one alpha in this place.”
“Have you come in contact with one of the alphas?” George asked
“I have met one on a reckless night. He was a regular werewolf like us but did not seem all too well.”
“How many people have you thought a beast?” Rachel thought
“For now: 5”
AWOOOO! There was a loud howl. The howl sounded unusual.
“A howl?” George was confused.
“It’s time for a meeting. That was my confirmation to finding out about the revived pack. That howl can only be heard by werewolves. I don’t know how they do it.”
“Strange.”
Rachel went to the window and moved the curtain a little aside. She saw a number of people walking towards the woods. It looked very normal until…
“Samuel, there was a power Jonah spoke about, he seemed very flustered about it. Do you have any idea?” Rachel asked
“I do. I went on an expedition in the forest few months before I discovered the pack and I felt a strange sensation. I was drowned in it and by the time I went out of the woods, a week had gone by.”
“A WEEK?!” George exclaimed
“I tried the forest again and came out after two weeks. I had thought it was only two hours. I tried again for three hours but came out after three weeks. Every hour equals to a week.”
“Interesting.” Rachel put held her jaw “I see why Jonah was flustered, yet I still do not understand why he was flustered.” Rachel said
“Mm. I believe there’s still more.” George was one to see bigger things than what is.
“There is.” Samuel entered. “Within the alphas, there is the alpha.”
“Like a superior alpha?”
“Yes. It was never like this in the past. A lot of changes has happened. They were strong in the past, I fear they are stronger now more than ever. I wonder what they are planning.”
“We’ll find that out.” George said. “We will be here for three months and that is enough time to gather information.”
“We just have to be careful and move with speed. I feel there isn’t much time left before this pack does something.”
“Truly.”
“With all that said, I have to rest.” Rachel was tired indeed from the journey and needed sleep. She left the room after bidding George and Samuel a good night.
On her way to her Room 009, she felt eyes on her. She felt watched. Inspected. Seen through. She shrugged off the feeling and headed to her room. She fell on her bed in exhaustion and let out a sigh. It was still a wonder how the town is still alive by 12:29am. As she was about to shut her eyes, there was a knock on her door. It startled her a little. She reluctantly pushed herself out of bed and went to the door. She opened it and found a tall fit man with a nose mask on so his face will not be completely seen. He had short hair and deep brown eyes. He was dressed in black. He handed Rachel a letter and left. The letter was small and the paper was hard.
George walked out of Samuel’s room and spotted Rachel standing outside of hers. They shared a brief eye contact and George thought it was weird she stood out but paid no attention to her. He gave her a nod and she returned it. She walked back into her room and closed the door, leaning on the door while thinking of who she had just seen.
She looks at the letter she held and opened it. The content was hand written, short and bold and it read: ‘BE CAREFUL.’
