CHAPTER 5
“I was on a night walk.” Iliana said without looking at his eyes.
“By this time of the chilly morning?”
“I had a bad dream and I thought a walk would help me clear my head.”
“Then, walk with me.” The alpha said. “Let’s clear our heads together.” He walked in front of Iliana and Iliana followed behind.
“What is your name?” the alpha asked.
“Ili—Rachel.” Iliana fell back to get alias.
“Rachel.” The alpha repeated after her. “Rachel, what brought you to this town?”
Iliana paused for a moment before continuing.
“I wanted a new life here with my brother.”
“and how’s the town treating you?”
“Well…” Iliana was hesitant “I’ve been here for two days and too much has happened.” Too much has really happened. Iliana came to the realization that they have walked a long way from where they started. “Where are we going to?”
“Nowhere. We’re just taking a walk.” The alpha replied. Iliana was concerned.
“Okay.”
“What pack do you belong to, Rachel?”
Iliana’s concerned shifted to the question. She can’t reveal the Shadow pack, neither could she lie about being in another pack.
“I’m without one.”
She knew the risks of giving that answer but neglect it as she had no choice.
“You do not belong to a pack? Interesting.” The alpha said before stopping, Iliana stopped. “you can go back. Just be careful around here.”
Iliana obeyed and left the alpha where he stood. She had a feeling that her conversation with the alpha wasn’t good and for a fact that she spoke with an alpha of a rival pack; she sensed danger approaching.
As she arrived at the motel, she spotted the same masked young man, with a letter. Standing in front of her room door. She approached the man and set her gaze on his. He stretched out his hand that had the letter.
“This is another warning, isn’t it?” She asked as she collected the letter and opened it.
‘BE VERY CAREFUL’
“I don’t understand. What are these letters? Why are you giving them to me? Aren’t you a Silver Creek—” Iliana lifted her head but the man was gone. She let out a sigh and went to her room to get some sleep.
The morning came and there was a meeting in the Silver Creek pack in the depths of the Silver Creek forest, in a small cabin. Meetings are never in the day time but when it is, there is something very serious to talk about.
“We have observed a spy in our town.” Rajesh, the elder of the pack said. “However, I can assure you, they will get no information from us. We will find them and end them. We already have one of them.”
“What pack do you suppose sent this spy?” Jacqueline, a luna of the pack asked.
“I have many guesses but there’s one pack that I suspect the most. The one we captured refused to talk, no matter what we do to him. We might just have to kill him off.” Rajesh implied.
“We’ll capture this other spy and make them talk. Hubert said there were two of them on that night he attacked. However, he was able to capture one of them, which is the one we have and the other ran away.” Desmond, another elder of the pack.
“We are moving in circles here with this spy issue when there is a bigger problem at hand—our power is getting stronger and strong by the minute. Let us prepare to attack quickly before we will lose control of this power.” Catherine, another luna of the pack.
“Cynthia is right. If we stop containing this power, we will have better control of it.” David, an alpha of the pack suggested.
“No. I insist we discover the spy first before we use this power. What if the spy leaks very vital information concerning this power or concerning Silver Creek?” Erik, another alpha of the pack countered.
“Unfortunately, it is not up to us to decide. Alexander must make the decision.” Rajesh said.
“Where is he, anyway?” Jacqueline asked.
“I’m right here.” Alexander’s voice echoed as he made himself visible.
“Why were you hiding? We need you here.” Catherine said but Alexander was quiet.
“Alexander, I’ve got a question to ask you.” David approached Alexander with suspicion. “Why were you out of bed last night?” David furrowed his brows. “You were out of your house late. Where did you go to?”
“Why does it bother you?” Alexander did not see any reason for an answer.
“It bothers us because there is a spy here and you were out of bed very late!” David kept on.
“Why were you awake that late?” Alexander questioned David. David’s eyes lit up.
“Are you—”
“Boys! Please! Indirectly calling each other a spy will do no good.” Jacqueline intervened “We only need Alexander’s decisions at this point.”
“I will go see the spy that was captured, first.”
Alexander who was the alpha of the Silver Creek pack had the weight of the whole pack along with the personal burdens from the past. His brothers, David and Erik, were also alphas but had to respect Alexander for the position he carried. Only Alexander makes the decision when it comes to the fate if the pack. Alexander had found it, sometimes, tiring.
Walking to the prison rooms in the catacombs of the Silver Creek, Alexander along with his brothers holding lamps, reached the cell that had the captured spy, Stuart.
Stuart was beaten and battered. He laid on the floor as if lifeless.
“Hey!” Erik called. Stuart moved his head from to ground slowly to see who called him even though he recognized the voice as one of his torturers. His eyes were almost shut from the large swell around it. His lower lip was torn and his nose, broken. It was a disheartening sight.
Stuart’s half sight caught Alexander’s piercing golden gaze behind the bars.
“Open the cell. I want to talk to him.” Alexander demanded.
“Why? Are you mad? Let him rot in here.” David said.
“Open the cell.” Alexander repeated the order.
The cell was opened with a loud sound of hard metal clashing against each other. Stuart moaned as he tried sitting up but his hands couldn’t move neither could his legs move. Alexander walked closer to Stuart. He squatted to get a closer look at Stuart. He began to murmur very inaudible things; David and Erik could not hear what Alexander was saying.
Five minutes passed and Alexander was still with Stuart. David and Erik began to wonder what their brother was doing in there.
“Please take all the time you need. We have nothing to do today.” Sarcastically, David said making Erik giggle.
Alexander got up and sighed. He left the cell without saying a word, leaving David and Erik confused; they followed after.
“Alexander…” Erik wanted to know “…what happened in that cell?”
Alexander did not answer but kept walking out of the catacombs
“You have to tell us what went on between you and that spy.” David added.
“Did he tell you where he’s from?” Erik questioned but Alexander was silent.
They arrived at the small cabin where Catherine, Jacqueline and Rajesh were waiting.
“Alexander, did you meet the spy?” Catherine asked but Alexander was still quiet.
“What happened in the catacombs?” Rajesh asked but got no response.
“Speak to us, child.” Jacqueline anxiously ordered.
“I will personally find a solution to control the power that is getting out of hand while everyone else will find the spy.” Alexander delivered his decision to them. They did not think it wise for Alexander to carry the responsibilities of the power alone but who were they to argue with him. Their new objective was finding the spy.
