Chapter 2

Clarie put her legs up on the sofa while enjoying warm chocolate made by Daniele. Her eyes stared at the 45-inch screen in front of her which was showing a romantic comedy-drama.

"So, how does it feel to be a secretary who has a handsome boss?" asked Daniele who took a seat next to Clarie.

Clarie had been telling Daniele for a long time that she had a very handsome boss at work. When Clarie got the job as an assistant secretary, her friend told her about the world of secretaries, which she said were often kept by their boss.

However, Clarie didn't believe that at all, she thought that not all secretaries became mistresses. The proof, Rebecca, has been Lucas Henderson's secretary for years, they have no relationship whatsoever.

"It's normal," replied Clarie indifferently, without taking her eyes off the screen in front of her.

"Tsk, maybe you are less attractive to him that's why he doesn't glance at you," said Daniele.

"You mean?!" asked Clarie not understanding.

"Oh come on, Clarie! Don't act innocent, okay?" Daniele put the mug that still had hot chocolate left on the table. "We all know what a secretary's job is like," said Daniele as she coded two fingers.

Clarie shook her head quickly.

"It's not like that, Danny, honey. In fact, I just started for 3 days, and there's nothing yet," Clarie reminded. "After all he already has the perfect wife. Surely he doesn't need another woman, does he?"

"Marion Larsen, huh?"

Clarie nodded in confirmation.

"Yeah, she's the perfect woman. She has whatever every woman in the world dreams of. Wealthy family, only child, brilliant career, and handsome husband like a Greek god. Less anything else, try?"

"And very pretty," Clarie added.

"She's a model of course beautiful, stupid!"

Clarie scowled.

Clarie had come to the office earlier, she didn't want to disappoint Rebecca if she had to be late again. The girl cleaned up Lucas's room and tidied up the sheets of files that were still scattered on the table. Maybe her boss was in a hurry to go home yesterday so his desk was messy like this.

She was so busy that Clarie didn't even notice the presence of someone who had just entered the room.

Lucas gulped when he saw the scene in front of him. The girl waited at his desk making the long skirt she was wearing rose to reveal the girl's smooth white inner thighs.

"Ah!" Clarie screamed in surprise as she turned her body over causing the sheets in her hands to scatter back onto the floor. Lucas stood leaning against the door with a frown.

"Tsk!" Lucas chuckled as he walked over to Clarie and helped her pick up the sheets of paper on the floor.

"I'm sorry, sir," Clarie stammered.

After tidying up the sheet, Clarie was permitted to leave Lucas' room.

"Excuse me, sir," said Clarie, to which Lucas replied with a sigh.

Clarie closed the door behind her with mixed feelings. The shock still enveloped her.

"Hey, what are you doing there, Clarie?" asked Rebecca who had just arrived.

"Oh, hi. You're here, Bec." Clarie walked over to her desk, then sat down and tried to steady her beating heart.

This was Rebecca's last day working at the office, after which the twenty-eight-year-old woman will be on maternity leave for up to six months. Clarie would take full control of all of her boss' work schedules and manage all his needs.

"You can do it, Clarie. I'm sure of it," said Rebecca.

"Sure, I should be able to do that. After all, Mr. Henderson isn't too fussy, am I?" asked Clarie to make sure.

"Well, he's different from Mr. Kendrick who wants a lot. It's a good thing he retired early," said Rebecca with a chuckle, alluding to her old boss before Lucas Henderson.

In the evening, before going home Rebecca said goodbye to Lucas in his office.

"Good luck with the birth of your baby, Bec. If there is time I will visit, "said Lucas.

"Thank you, Mr. Henderson. See you again for the next six months, I'll leave Clarie," Rebecca replied.

Lucas just nodded and gave a small smile.

After leaving the room, Rebecca met Clarie who was waiting for her to come down together. Clarie helped Rebecca carry some items and gifts from her office colleagues to the lobby because the woman's husband was waiting there.

"You'll be fine right?" asked Rebecca once again.

Clarie turned to the woman beside her. "Of course, you don't need to worry, Bec," Clarie replied confidently.

"If you need my help call me any time, Clarie," she ordered later.

"Okay," replied Clarie curtly.

After dropping Rebecca off, Clarie left the lobby and looked for a taxi. This Friday night she will spend the night watching her favorite drama or even going out to hang out at the cafe with Daniele.

.

Lucas grabbed his ringing cell phone.

"Yes?" he said to the voice on the other end.

His hands were still moving nimbly over the keyboard on his laptop.

"Okay, I'll catch up later."

Again the man put the flat object beside him and continued his remaining work. He had purposely let Clarie go home first and accompany Rebecca earlier. Because next Monday the girl would take care of it herself without Rebecca's help.

Clarie's taxi stopped in front of her flat in suburban New York City. After paying the fare, the girl got off and crossed the road to the Oswald family's bakery.

"Welcome," said Rosemary, the shop owner, who was sitting in front of the cake counter. "Hey, Clarie?"

“Hi Rose. How are you?" asked Clarie in response to the 60-year-old woman's greeting.

"Come here, we have your favorite coconut buns, honey. And it's still warm, Varo just took it from the grill," said Rosemary enthusiastically, while mentioning the name of her grandson from her first child.

"Wow! It looks delicious, please give me three pieces," Clarie said happily.

"Here take it." Rose handed the paper bag containing the bread to Clarie.

"It smells good," said Clarie, sniffing the aroma from the bread she received. Her hand reached into her wallet from inside the sling bag and took out a piece of money, then handed it to Rosemary.

After paying, Clarie left the shop and crossed the road back to her flat. She opened the main door, then went up to the floor where her flat was.

Her face turned annoyed when she saw someone standing at the door of her flat.

"Hello, Sweetie. It's been a long time since you came back, hm," said the man in the beanie cap.

"What are you doing here?" asked Clarie curtly.

" Don't be so upset. What are you bringing with you?"

Clarie glanced at the paper bag in her left hand. "It's bread. Are you hungry?" she asked again.

"I'm not hungry, Clarie. I need money. Give me the money, Clarie!" said the man annoyed.

"I don't have any money," answered Clarie coolly, as she opened her flat door.

"Give me the money or I'll turn your sister into a prostitute in a brothel!" the man threatened in Clarie's ear.

Clarie's body tensed. The girl had to take her wallet and give some money to that annoying man.

"Take it and don't come back again!" She hissed sharply.

"We'll meet again next week, cutie," the man said as he touched Clarie's chin and walked away.

Clarie quickly wiped her chin which had been touched by the disgusting touch and entered the house and locked it.
