CHAPTER 3
Alexei looned towards him in dismay. "What do you mean, Mate? I have been ruling the kingdom perfectly fine on my own. Why is there a need for a Luna. We are immortals after all; there is no need for me to be in a hurry to scramble and find someone to take over when I am gone because we both know I will be here for a while." He spoke to his father with anger in his tone.
His father smiled at him. "That arrogance of yours will do you no good in the long run. You have to face the facts. Your power comes from your people and the respect they have for you. Without a female, that respect will dissipate, and they will come for your power. You need a female. Preferably your Mate." He said to him sternly.
"And why would I do that?" Why would I go out on a search for my own ruin? If you haven't forgotten. I was never even supposed to be the Alpha. If it weren't for my uncle finding his own Mate, we would both be somewhere else. I guess I have his Mate to thank for me being the king." He spat.
He watched as his father offered him a dad smile. "You are still young; you don't see how much it is taking out of you, but I know that you will see it yourself soon enough. The heart can only pretend for so long." He said to him knowingly.
"I will no longer listen to this buffoonery. Don't call me unless you are dying". He spat as he stood abruptly from the stool. He began to make his way toward the door.
He found Mason still standing alert by the door. "The next time he wants to look for someone who is willing to play games with him, tell him to find someone else because I will not be here to put up with any more of his silly charades." He spat. With that, he walked off, as he wanted nothing more from the damn parade. He has had enough of it. He scoffed as he made his way out of the door and headed towards his chambers. He could feel his body begin to heat up at the moment, and he realized that he needed to try and at least cool himself down.
He pulled open the doors of his room, and he couldn't help but smile at the sight before him. This time, it was a blonde-haired beauty that lay upon his sheets like a masterpiece waiting to be devoured.
…
Alexei was woken up the next morning by the sound of loud pounding against his door. He let out a groan as he sat up abruptly. He looked to his side to find the naked form of the woman from last night, and he couldn't help but smirk at the sight of her. He was tempted to reach out and touch her, but he decided against it after a moment.
He stood up as he wrapped the sheet around his waist before moving towards the door to see who it was that had chosen to disturb him now. He pulled it open to find a distressed-looking Mason standing before him. "What do you want?" He asked him in frustration.
"The generals have called for an emergency meeting; they say it is serious, and you need to get dressed now before they find you themselves." He hissed.
Alexei was shocked by his words, and he knew that it wasn't usual for the generals to come out of their way and see him themselves. He shrugged his shoulders as he decided not to think much into it. "Step back and tell them I will be there in ten minutes”. He ordered, and Mason bowed his head slightly before he did as he was told.
He turned to his bed as he heard her let out a loud yawn as the sheets pulled at her waist. "I need you out of here before I return." He ordered as he made his way towards his wardrobe and slipped on a peasant shirt and leather jeans.
He made his way swiftly through the halls, and he was only slightly surprised to find that there were a large number of people walking down them.
He tried not to focus his attention on that as he made his way towards the meeting room. He pulled the door open as he heard a series of loud chattering sounds coming from inside. The moment he stepped inside, he watched everyone freeze as they turned their gazes toward him. "What is the reason for your summoning? What do you want from me?"
He watched as the generals turned towards him with uncertainty in their gazes. "Sit down, my prince." He looked toward his general, Cortez, for a moment longer before taking his place. "Now tell me what it is."
"There had been whispers around the kingdom that the reason that you have refused to find a Luna is because you don't have a mate. The people are starting to see you as weak and out of touch with your citizens." He said to him.
“And how is that any of my concern? It is nothing more than gossip. If I listened to every piece of gossip that was thrown at me, I wouldn't get this far." He said to him in a bored tone.
He watched as the general let out a sigh from his lips before shaking his head. "It is much more than that, sir. We have been getting rebels. A Luna will be able to help unite the peace and the people." The general pleaded.
Alexie was tired of the same conversation over and over again, and he knew that if he didn't do something about it, it would only get worse with time, and he was growing bored of all of it.
"Fine then. If you insist, then the Luna trials will be held. The one who leaves the trial alive will be my Luna!”
