CHAPTER FIVE: THE SPY
CHAPTER FIVE; THE SPY
DENISE'S POV
As I made my way through the crowded hallway, I felt a presence behind me. I turned around to find Blanc chasing after me.
"Can you please stop following me?" I asked as Blanc caught up with me. It was becoming rather uncomfortable.
"Okay, but I want to know if we're good because you've been acting up," he said, rubbing his eyebrows—an apparent nervous habit.
"Yeah, we're good," I replied, looking at him.
"Hey baby, I was looking all over for you." Andi appeared out of nowhere and positioned herself between us, kissing Blanc.
"Disgusting," I muttered as they made kissing sounds.
"Sorry, Denise, I need my boyfriend for a bit," she said, dragging him along with her.
"You can have him, he's useless to me," I said under my breath, unsure if they heard me.
"What the hell just happened?" I seethed with anger.
I was furious at the way Andi showed up and started kissing Blanc while he was in the middle of a conversation with me. Not that it's any of my business, though.
I walked slowly until I reached the school's car park. I playfully turned my head and saw Audrey leaning against his car. I was certain he had been waiting for me to come out.
"I thought your car had issues," I yelled as I approached him.
"Yeah, but I repaired the badass already. Hop in, let's go home," he said with a smile.
"Okay, the badass is back," I said, feeling a sense of relief.
BLANC'S POV
"That's not how you woo a lady, Blanc," Andi yelled at me in anger.
"Calm down, Andi, I know how to woo a lady. I've been doing this for centuries," I said, trying to assure her, but she wasn't convinced.
"You should understand that this is not the 19th century. We're in the 21st century," she yelled, and I chuckled.
"What's the difference in the way they woo in this century and the 19th century?" I asked, amused.
"There is a difference, you fool. Girls don't like being chased like that. You're suffocating her," she yelled, but I wasn't sure if she was right.
"I'm the guy here, so I know how to woo girls. Chasing and following them everywhere makes them feel special or something. Or what exactly are you talking about?" I asked, laughing, but Andi didn't share the laughter.
"She has a heart of stone. Do you really think her heart will melt because of your constant pestering and persistence? Polite guys are a red flag to her," Andi yelled again. I stood there, rubbing my chin in thought.
"What's a red flag?" I asked, confused.
"You don't know what a red flag is?" Andi answered my question with another question.
"Everyone knows what a red flag is," she said, clearly exhausted with my lack of understanding.
"Well, I don't know, and I am not everyone," I said, still perplexed.
"Forget it and try to drop your ancient accent," she said, laughing. I hoped Denise hadn't noticed it, though.
"Where are your girls?" I asked, aware that Andi always had her entourage with her.
"I sent them away," she replied.
She dragged me out of the tight corner she had taken me to earlier when she interrupted my conversation with Denise.
"Let's go spy on her," she suggested as we started walking through the hallway.
"She's a werewolf, she'd be able to hear our voices if we were two miles away from her," I reasoned with Andi, hoping to dissuade her from the idea.
Andi, however, seemed determined. "She hasn't recognized those signs yet. She doesn't even know she's a wolf, and she doesn't know she possesses the Gem," Andi explained impatiently. Reluctantly, I agreed to go along with her plan.
We stealthily made our way to Denise's neighborhood, finding a hiding spot behind a tree. From there, we aimed to get a clear view of her without being noticed.
"We are vampires, we have the ability to see from far away. So let's just stay here and watch Denise," I suggested, trying to avoid unnecessary risks.
"It's a good idea," Andi replied. "We need to keep an eye on her and the Gem."
Denise was outside, listening to music with a blue headset on. She swayed and danced to the melody of the song, which brought a smile to my face. She looked so beautiful at that moment.
"Stop thinking of her like that, Blanc. Control your thoughts," Andi scolded me, lightly slapping my chest.
"I'm sorry, I'll focus," I assured her, trying to shake off any inappropriate thoughts.
DENISE'S POV
I removed the headset from my head after listening to Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You." I had put it on initially to drown out the whispers of the wind that had been bothering me.
"I think I'm going insane," I muttered to myself, feeling confused. The whispers of the wind had significantly reduced, and I felt relieved.
Curiosity got the better of me, and I reached under my bed to retrieve a small box. Inside the box was a gem that my late father had given me. Whenever I held it, I felt a sense of closeness to him.
He had instructed me to protect the Gem with all my might and told me that when I turned fourteen, I would understand its true significance. I was now sixteen, and while I still didn't fully comprehend its purpose, I was determined to keep it safe.
My father explained that the Gem was a valuable and beautiful stone, holding cultural and symbolic significance. It was treasured for its rarity and durability. The Gem itself was pear-shaped, small in size, and emerald green in color. Though opaque, it was cut and polished to enhance its visual appeal.
To me, the Gem was more than just a piece of jewelry or decoration. Its lustrous color and unique patterns captivated me.
"That's the Gem, right?" I heard a voice from outside.
"Yes, that's it. How do we get it?" a familiar feminine voice responded.
The voices sounded oddly familiar, as if I had heard them before, but I couldn't quite place where.
"Shhh, I think she can hear us," the feminine voice whispered in a hushed tone.
"Let's just leave," a masculine voice suggested, and their voices faded away.
That masculine voice sounded like Blanc, but I couldn't be certain.
"I'm not sure if it's Blanc either," a voice within me chimed in.
"Yeah, I'm not," I replied, startled by the internal conversation.
"Wait, who am I talking to?" I asked aloud, realizing that I was hearing a voice that seemed to speak directly to me.
"Oh, I'm Ava, your inner wolf," the voice identified itself.
"What the heck is happening to me?" I exclaimed, feeling a mixture of confusion and astonishment.
