Chapter 2

Mommy woke me up because there were a lot of horrible noises coming from downstairs of the pack house.

“Sierra, wake up honey. Do you remember the game Mommy taught you? hide and seek?”

“Yes, mama I remember.”

“This time it is your turn to hide. Can you do that for me?”

“Yes, mama I can.”

“Okay, we are going to go out back and run to the trees. We will find you a place to hide in the woods.”

Mama picked me up and we headed down the back stairs. Mama said these stairs are only used for emergencies, so I didn't know why we were using them. She also told me that we have to be as quiet as possible. Once we got outside she took off running, When we got to the trees she sat me between these 2 very big rocks and put my father's camouflage blanket over me.

“You need to be very quiet darling so no one can hear you.”

“Mama, but if no one finds me that means I win right?”

“Yes my love, for this game if you make a sound and get caught you will lose and you can't lose this game. I want you to win, and I know you want to win too right?”

“Right Mama.”

“Then no matter what or who you see or hear does not make a sound okay?”

I didn't say anything, I only nodded. Mama kissed my forehead and then turned and walked away from me. I could hear screaming. There must be a lot of people playing.

“Where is she, Cheryl?” I hear a man ask my Mama. I saw him holding her by the back of her neck and bringing her back into the trees where I was hiding.

“She’s gone! You will never get the chance to hurt her like you have hurt me!”

I heard that man laugh. Did he hurt my Mama? I wanted to yell at him to tell him to leave her alone, but then I wouldn't win this game of hide and seek like my Mama wanted me to.

“Since you won't give me the Alpha’s daughter, I will just take your life!”

I didn't know what he meant by that. I saw my mother's eyes fill with tears and she whispered ‘I love you’. There was a very loud bang and a very bright flash of light. Mama’s whole body hit the ground and I screamed. She had red stuff all over her and it scared me. When I screamed that mean man found me. He pulled off the blanket my mama put on me. I was crying, my Mama isn't moving. He tried to grab me but I bit his hand and then he yelled. When He pulled his hand back away from me, I took off running.

I tried to find my Dad but everywhere I checked he wasn't there I found another spot to hide in. From the look of everything that bad man hurt a lot of people from our pack. So many of them lay on the ground and stopped moving. Most of them had the same red stuff on them that my mama did.

“Find the Alpha’s Daughter! Then bring her to me, she's mine!” that bad man shouted. I knew I was in danger. I started to run again. This time I knew I wasn't safe and when I realized that that bad man killed all these people that I knew. Some of them were even what my mama and dad considered family. I ran for a very long time. After I was sure there was no one behind me I began to cry and sat on the ground.

That man killed my mama. I am all alone now. I decided right then that I was going to leave and never come back. If this is what happens when you are part of a pack, then I don't want to be part of a pack either. I took off running again to get as far away from here as possible and told myself that I was only going to stop when my feet couldn't run anymore.

All of a sudden I could hear growling coming from behind me. My father taught me that when you are running, never take the chance and look back. It would only slow you down. However, he said to use all of the strength you have and push to run faster. So that is exactly what I did. I was starting to see lights through the trees, and that meant that I was very close to town. Right as I was about to run out of the tree line, the wolf jumped and I felt his claws sink into my back.

I started to cry out in pain. “I got you now you little brat!” Then he started laughing at me. “Julius is going to reward me good for you.” I started to scream and cry again. As he lifted me off of the ground I started to fight with everything I had to get out of his grip. I kicked him where the sun doesn't shine and he unwillingly let go of me. When I hit the ground it took me a minute to get myself up because of the injury to my back caused by his claws.

I pushed myself off the ground as hard as I could and started running again. I finally made it out of the trees. I looked both ways and darted out into the street. I couldn't think of anything other than running. When it got onto the sidewalk on the other side of the street I ran right into this older woman. I don't know how old she was, but she had to at least be my Mama's age. I fell back onto my butt.

Instantly this lady picked me up off my butt and held me like I was a baby. I couldn't stop crying, and I buried my face in her chest. She smelled sweet like vanilla and sugar. But she didn't smell like a wolf, and I was scared that that was going to be a big problem once she found out what I really was.

“Hush baby, you are safe now. I will never let anything happen to you.”

As soon as she said that, I felt a calm wash over me and instantly fell asleep in her arms. I don't know what tomorrow is going to bring, but all I know is right now, all of my family is dead. And I am alone.
