Chapter 3-Conversation with twins

Vincent POV

At this moment, in the castle study.

The study, with its three interconnected levels and a spiral staircase made of rich mahogany, is more accurately described as a private library. It houses the antiquities acquired by Luna and me, meticulously arranged to ensure their proper preservation under the regular inspection of the Packl Museum's curator.

I am comfortably seated in a chair, clad in a grey velvet robe and loungewear. Before me, Raffle and Rino appear restless.

I raise a cup of red tea to my lips and take a leisurely sip. "There seems to be an impending conflict between packs, and I have proposed to the Wolf Queen a 45% reduction in pack expenses to allocate the saved funds for acquiring essential supplies for the front lines. She finds the idea pleasing."

"Is that so?" Raffle visibly relaxes as he realizes I haven't brought up the matter of the rogues.

Rino scratches his head, seeking clarification. "What does that mean?"

"It means that in the coming months, the servants will only work during the day. The golf course, stables, and racetrack will temporarily be closed," I explain.

"What!?" Rino's outburst is immediately quelled as his brother restrains him. "So, what are we supposed to do all day? Spend time with mother listening to operas with ghostly wails and howling wolves?"

"You can devote your time to your studies," I reply calmly, placing the teacup back on its saucer. The delicate clink of the tray meeting the base resonates like a striking blow against Rino's heart.

He slumps back into the sofa, no longer daring to voice his concerns.

"Now, let us turn our attention to the matter of the rogues," I state, gently tucking my flowing locks behind my ear. The hair, akin to flowing silver, possesses a pure hue devoid of warmth, exuding an unsettling sense of detached austerity.

The pack has encountered rogues before; this is not their first encounter. I have reiterated the precautions to my children on multiple occasions.

"Do not approach her."

"Do not allow her to set foot inside the castle."

"And, of course, no harm should come to her. After all, she is a gift from the Wolf Queen."

I fix a cold gaze upon my youngest, Rino, rendering him motionless. "I understand that you are in the midst of your curious years. As a father, I do not wish to suppress your adolescent instincts. However, I hope for your normal and healthy development. Even if you find attraction to men, it would still be preferable to having an affinity for black-haired rogues."

Rino nods fervently, unable to articulate any further words.

"Now, regarding Raffle..." I redirect my attention to my eldest. He has always been composed and level-headed, requiring less concern.

"Brother had no involvement; it was entirely my fault," Rino interjects hastily, explaining himself.

"That rogue... Lucca, she was my classmate," Raffle suddenly rises from his seat, mustering the courage to meet my gaze. "I apologize, Father, but I need some time to adjust to this change. I need to collect my thoughts."

After expressing his sentiments, he departs from the study.

I do not impede his departure, merely raising my cup toward Rino. "You may leave as well. Despite the reduction in estate expenses, your tutoring fees remain unchanged. Tonight, you have your Spanish lesson."

Rino exits the room, his complexion drained of color.

The dread of learning Spanish is only surpassed by the dread of facing his father.

After the children left, the study fell into silence for a moment before a servant handed me the phone.

"It's Luna," the servant said respectfully.

"Linda?" I took the phone and heard her clear, melodic voice. "Are you at the opera house?"

"Yes." Her voice, just like mine, was calm and deep. She glanced at her watch and asked, "There's a remarkable ballet performance tonight at the Packl Theater. Would you like to come and see? I heard there's a talented young dancer portraying a white wolf girl..."

"No, I have work to attend to." I quickly declined, my voice soft yet devoid of any fluctuations. "I wish you a delightful time, my dear."

The servant took the phone away.

I furrowed my brow slightly, gazing at the books before me.

Lately, Linda had been introducing me to young, beautiful girls.

I understood the implications.

We had been married for almost twenty years.

Our emotional life had always remained tranquil, devoid of any ripples or sparks.

That's because we were not mates appointed by the Moon Goddess.

Linda's beauty still shone brightly, but at her age, she couldn't help but worry about whether she could retain this Lycan's heart, particularly when she observed the predicaments of her fellow sisters.

Perhaps there was a desire for a younger body to fulfill her husband's passions, even though it seemed like i had never experienced such desires before.

Linda was willing to accept i having a mistress, but only within her control.

That's why she had been introducing me to young, beautiful, and obedient girls lately.

I saw no necessity in it whatsoever.

Stability was the utmost priority in our relationship. we had always been in the best state, both in the past and the present.

It was perfect.

When Linda returned, we would have to discuss this matter.

I opened the folder, delving into the documents detailing conflicts with the wolf pack. As a leader, it was my duty to protect our family and safeguard our interests. I immersed myself in these matters, temporarily setting aside Linda's concerns.

Nevertheless, as Linda returned, I recognized the need to address this issue head-on; there was no more evading it. I didn't want to witness the disintegration of our relationship, yet I couldn't dismiss the inner turmoil that plagued Linda. Honest and open communication became imperative, as we sought solutions to rebuild our trust and intimacy.

Within the dim and warm embrace of the late-night study, we need to confront the challenges together.

Regardless of the outcome, we had to confront it with courage, clearing the path for our relationship to rediscover harmony and the happiness we once shared.

The study's lamp would remain illuminated until midnight.
