Chapter SEVEN
Avilla’s pov
When I moved to my auntie’s house in a new town, I thought everything would be different from my old town and old life but there was no difference between here and there. I have been running from God knows what ever since I was a baby.
My parents moved us from town to town claiming they were never one to settle in a place for far too long but as I grew up and I noticed most of the things that were going on, it made them look crazy and more deranged as time passed by, they refused to tell me anything relating to our flight from what seemed like stable towns no matter how much she asked them. It was a little strange for her but when you have been doing the same thing for so long, you tend to follow the crowd.
When her parents died a month ago, she was distraught for a while because she loved them despite their wiles, they were out exercising when they were mugged, the story didn’t seem right because they wouldn’t just kill two people in broad daylight and their body dragged to the woods where the policeman took her too. It was a difficult time for her, everyone giving her the pity face. She knew her parents were not mugged and nobody was willing to tell her the truth that was alright. She was going to find out what was going on and get to the bottom of it.
She found out she had an aunt who lived in California. When she called and asked her to come live with her. It was a new change for her especially so soon after their death, she was to take the leaves they left for her, there were lots of it and she was to make them into a portion so she could use it as her perfume to protect herself from evil. She didn’t believe this whole thing but if it was important to them then she was going to do it. It was a weird thing for them to ask of her but it was their dying wish and she had no option than to follow through their wishes especially when it was to keep her safe.
She packed her bags the following week after her parent’s death and flew to California to stay with her aunt. Her aunt took one look at her when she arrived on her doorstep and dissolved into tears. I guess the death of her parents were still a touchy subject for her. It was weird. Well, something weird has always been going on but this time it tickled her curiosity even more. She hated being clueless and she desperately wanted to know the truth about what her parents were protecting her from and what exactly killed them in the first place. She knew they were protecting her but from what?
Staying with her aunt haven’t been easy as the woman was the most tight lipped person she has ever met, her life was different and normal from what she was used to. It was too late to be normal and she found herself not liking it. She was going to be the new girl in the middle of a semester and how would she make friends now?
She came here to heal and grow into a normal teenager, she has always been a curious and adventurous person, it wasn’t a natural thing for her but it stemmed from the running her parents did with her. Her auntie had such a big house that was a bit far from the town, it was gated and it looked different than the other house like it was secluded from the community. Great! Not only is she the weird kid but she is also the kid that lives in the scary looking house on the far end of town. This was going to be a long semester.
She unpacked her bags and arranged her closet the way she liked it, her aunt gave her a big room all to herself, it was beautiful and decorated just the way she liked it. Now that she was settled, the weight of knowing that she was an orphan settled heavily on her shoulders. She was never going to see her parents again, she was never going to shout at them for being weirdos and get scolded for that. She was going to be alone now. She slid down her closet wall as her body shook with tears. She had no idea how much she did not value her parents for protecting her all through their time, she was stubborn and hard headed about not knowing the implications of what they were doing. They were dead because of her, they died protecting her. Her cries changed to anger and she started feeling a stirring in her chest, like something wanted to burst out of her. Is that what heart break feels like?
She took in a breath to calm herself down, she reached for her water bottle on the night stand to take a sip, and maybe drinking water would make her chest less hot. She drank the water till she was feeling like herself again. She was always having this episodes. It was like something was inside her and needed to be let out but she just didn’t know what it was. She rested her head on the wall of the closet to breathe out while the hotness stopped spreading. Suddenly she was having headache in the worst way possible. Whenever she was feeling like this, her mom would make her chamomile tea to calm her down, she always said the herbs have a calming effect. What would she do now her mom was not around to help her anymore? She burst into tears because she missed them so much. She wasn’t ready for them to go so soon especially now her body was going through all these changes.
