Wedding Day
I looked outside the window, and I could see the dark clouds surrounding the blue sky. It will rain sooner or later.
Today should have been the most special day for me, but even the weather didn't give me their support at all.
The weather was too bad for a wedding day. Yes, today was my wedding party. I always dreamed of a beautiful wedding party when I got married to someone I love.
But I never expected to get married to someone who hates me instead. No one agreed to this marriage except Mr. Harold, the kind and gentle grandfather who adopted me.
No one could defy Mr. Harlock's command because his command left no room for argument. Mr. Harlock retired from his position as the company CEO, but he is still the major shareholder in the Harlock family business.
Every employee in the company still respects him so much, even after his retirement. I was about to get married to Gerald Harlock, my twin sister's fiance.
My twin sister died two years ago, even before she got married to her fiance, Gerald Harlock. I got a healthy body from childhood, while my twin sister had a weak body.
I was the one who was beside her every time she got sick. I really adore my little twin sister as much as she loves me. In this world, we could only depend on each other after we lost our parents.
After her death, I feel lonely in this world with no one to depend on anymore. Living alone in this world makes me anxious, but I have to continue my life as I promised back then with her.
I had to continue this wedding party, even with everyone's resentment towards me. Gerald's parents never like me to begin with, and they hate me more after Sherry's death.
Of course, they didn't agree to our marriage, but none of them could defy Mr. Harlock, so they could only accept it even though they didn't like the idea of having me as their daughter-in-law.
I didn't know why they hated me so much because none of them spared some of their time to give me any explanation. Gerald's parents also hate Sherry as much as they hate me, but they still treated her better than me.
I didn't know what happened, but after Gerald dated Sherry, they treated Sherry gentler than before. Was it Gerald's influence that made them treat Sherry more gently?
I didn't know the answer because Gerald's parents always avoided me, and they looked at me with cold eyes. They never bothered to hide their resentment towards me, and every high society member could guess the meaning behind their resentment gaze.
Everyone knew that I am an unwanted daughter-in-law in their eyes, but they couldn't defy Mr. Harlock's command because they are powerless in these matters.
I am happy Grandfather thought about my happiness- I don't know if this is the best way to get it when everyone disagrees about our marriage- even Gerald himself disagrees with this abrupt marriage.
The weather turned colder than before, and it started raining, and even though I was happy that we didn't hold a wedding party outdoors, seeing rain still made me unhappy.
The rain made me remember Sherry's death because she died on a rainy day. Today was also a rainy day, and everyone would think this marriage was a sign of bad luck because the weather also didn't support our wedding party.
Mr. Harlock and Mrs. Harlock came toward me when they saw me looking outside the window. They put on a worried expression on their face- they knew that a rainy day would make me remember about Sherry.
"Sherra," Mrs. Harlock came towards me and held one of my hands.
I turned to reality when I heard her soft voice. "What did you think about this time?" Mrs. Harlock added. Mrs. Harlock knew that Sherra was always in a daze after Sherry's death.
"Nothing, Grandma. Don't worry about me because I only need a little time to be alone," I answered with a soft voice.
"Don't lie to me. I know that you are worried about something, right?" Mrs. Harlock said with dissatisfaction.
"Sherra, you also have the right to get your own happiness, " Mr. Harlock added while staring at Sherra with a pair of gentle eyes.
I held my tears in after I saw the gentleness in their eyes while they looked me in the eye. I didn't know what happened to me if I didn't have them in my life.
"I am happy to have Grandma and Grandpa by my side," I gave them a sweet smile.
"We are also lucky to have you in our life," Mr. and Mrs. Harlock spoke at the same time. They stole glances at each other and laughed happily, and I also laughed together with them.
Mrs. Harlock wanted to ask Sherra because she could sense the sadness in her eyes when Sherra gazed outside the window. Mrs. Harlock stopped herself from asking Sherra something insignificant like that because today was her special day.
Mr. Harlock held Sherra's other hand and said, "I know that everyone is unhappy with your marriage, but I believe that one day they will accept you as Gerry's sole wife."
Gerry is Gerald's nickname, and Gerald's family calls Gerald by his nickname while he refused to let me call him with his nickname because Sherry was the only one who could call him intimately like that.
I believe that one day they will realize how stupid they are because they reject a gentle girl like you."
"But Grandpa-," Before I could continue my words, Mrs. Harlock already cut me off.
"Sherra, believe in your grandparents. We won't let anyone bully you as long as we are still alive. Your grandpa won't let them lay a hand on you, right darling," Mrs. Harlock said and turned her gaze at Mr. Harlock.
"Of course, I will protect you because you are my granddaughter. You only need to think about your most special day at this time," Mr. Harlock agreed with his wife's statement.
