CHAPTER

VANDA

I stared at my sick mother, her eyes still gazing out to the window to the woman who seems to notice that we were talking about her and hurriedly left the window.

My mother looked back at me with a weak smile, "Please son, get my daughter-in-law in here."

"Alright, mother. Just try to take it easy and I'll be right back." I assured her and she smiled.

I got up and walked out of the hospital room.

RENEE

Oh my God! I've gone and done it. Vanda Crown will chop off my head this time around, not giving a damn about the money

I shouldn't have imposed on such precious moments between him and his mother. But when the doctor said that the woman won't survive for long, it had clearly hurt Vanda. I had hurt too.

He just lost his brother and about to loose his mother too. I got curious to see this woman who had given birth to such hard imposing man.

Now I've gotten caught! What a mess.

The door opened and he walked out. I swallowed nervously, as he turned to me and pinned me with a very hard stare.

"My mother wants to see you." He stated.

My heart skipped beats. "What?"

He glared at me, "My mother wants to see you and you will do well to go in there and see her!" He ordered.

I gave him a sad smile, "You don't have to give orders for something like this, Mr Crown. I'll see your mother if she truly wants to see me."

Although I don't know the reason why the woman would bother. Unless Vanda told her who I am? Who my uncle was!?

"Does she know...." I trailed off.

"No." He bit off.

I took deep reassuring breaths. He stared at me for some seconds. Then, he gave a curt nod of his head.

I wiped my sweaty hand on my clothes and turned towards the door.

"There's something else, Miss Adams." He said, this time his voice wasn't commanding. When I looked at him curiously, he added, "She thinks you're my wife."

For a full minute, my head had problem processing what he just said.

"What?" I couldn't help asking, just to be sure that I heard right.

"She mistook you for her daughter-in-law because I came to the hospital with you. You're the only woman I've ever brought here. You just had to stick your head through that window, didn't you!?" He sounded pissed.

I was about to apologize again but I thought against it. I won't apologize for wanting to see the sick woman and I sure as hell won't allow him to freely blame me for his mother's assumption.

He took deep breaths seeming to get control over himself. "Just go in..." He began.

When I nodded and turned again, he added, "Let her have her assumption, Miss Adams. Please...." He trailed off.

I never thought that a man like Vanda can ever be vulnerable like this. He must love his mother so much.

"It's okay. I won't jeopardize her happiness." I assured him softly.

He stared at me again for a few seconds like he doesn't believe me. He seems to come to terns with the fact that he has no choice anyway.

He nodded once.

I opened the door and quietly entered the luxurious hospital room. It doesn't look like a hospital room at all.

My eyes landed on the woman lying on the bed as her eyes followed my trail. She doesn't look so old....just a few wrinkles, but she does look really sick.

I walked closer to her, "G-Good day, ma'am" I stammered out.

"There's no ma'am in here." The woman sighed softly, "You can call me mother. Here, give me your hand..."

I did as she said. She smiled again, her eyes soft. "I've prayed to meet you for a long time, I feel so fulfilled. You look so beautiful, my daughter-in-law."

"You look good too, ma'am—mother." I corrected myself.

I glanced at Vanda who had entered and looked so formidable. He retured my stare before he turned back to his mother.

"So, tell me honey. How did you meet my son? Give me all the romantic details." The sick woman whispered.
