CHAPTER 6: The Grand Project
After the tour, she went straight back to her office, dialed and called all the stuff in the department for a meeting and reminded them of how urgent and enormous the project is.
Evette loves challenges. She figured out that a project of this magnitude requires one to be meticulous. She informed them that each and everyone of them will have to show their best performance and be more creative. The whole project required great and unique designs in every sense and she expected them to be ready to present their designs in a week’s time. Gasps could be heard amongst them but she reminded them that they had been working while she wasn’t around so they should have something already.
Later on she requested to be given a personal secretary and specifically asked for the secretary to be a female. Theophilus rolled his eyes when he heard her demands but did not oppose. Though it sounded sexist like her big boss, she felt another female would mellow down the testosterone raging around her. She ordered in dinner and got back to work, intending to go back home later tonight. Evette is naturally a hard worker, when given a task, she jumps straight away into it with full force. She spent her time preparing a report of what she saw today at the site and the goals she intended to achieve with the project.
Later at night she dragged herself to go home. She was so exhausted. She stretched her achy arms and went towards the elevator. She glanced towards a light that was flickering from her right. She stood wondering if the boss left the lights on or he was still working at past eleven at night, almost towards midnight.
She approached out of curiosity. She knocked on the slightly ajar door and heard shuffling of feet. The person inside clearly didn’t expect any visitor at this time of the night. He opened the door to reveal non other than his freshly new employee. He gasped and said “you?” he frowned not expecting her to be still around. “What are you still doing here in the middle of the night?” he bellowed his voice sounding a bit sterner.
“Relax Mr big boss, I’m not stalking you, neither am I a creepy psycho about to chop your head and drink your blood nor am I trying to seduce you, you know. Some of us work hard for our money. You hired me and I got straight away into work, not caring whether I’ll have little time for beauty sleep. I was on my way home and I saw a light so I came to check if you were being robbed. Do you have a problem with that?” she asked with raised brows.
He looked at her with a smirk as if saying ‘yeah right, checking unarmed, it’s very believable Ms Scott, yeah’ He shook his head and said I’m fine, as you can see it’s not a robbery, I’m working too. You can leave now”
‘How arrogant? This guy can’t even appreciate that I risked my life to check whether a criminal was in his office but wouldn’t even acknowledge my efforts with a little thank you' hissed Evette appalled at her boss’s indifference. “Is he like this with everybody or is it only towards women or what?” Evette spoke out loud not a care that someone could hear her speak her thoughts out loud.
She arrived home and took a shower soon her back hitting the softness of her mattress easing the tension in her muscles further. She woke up to a curious face of her very obnoxiously nosy baby sister Leah. She was busy staring at her while she slept and it felt creepy. Evette was startled and jumped while saying “Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Leah what are you doing creeping up on me like that? You nearly gave me a heartattack. You should stop doing all these creepy things” growled an angry Evette.
“Oh Eve cut it, you already know me, you should have expected this when you went forever just after receiving a mystery call from Mr acquaintance” grinned Leah. Leah is the youngest of the sisters but the most inquisitive. She speaks her mind without any fear or favor. Bianca is the calm but nerdy one. She is always buried behind her books or researches. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Literature at the local Humanities college. Evette was more like their mother figure since they lost both their parents in a horrible car accident half a year ago. Evette had been living in Canada since she was sixteen. She is more of a strict type but fun to be around. It’s almost like she has half of Leah’s and half of Bianca’s characters.
She was a very intelligent student in high school and managed to graduate with her highschool diploma earlier than her peers and acquired a scholarship to study in Canada. She left for her studies and would occasionally visit her family. They lived in Balridge city, a very successful business hub in a very big and rich Island called Layes.
Instead of returning back home after her studies, she had already started a booming Interior designs company as a third year student and it was becoming more successful. She truly made a name out for herself in a foreign country, when tragedy struck, she decided to sell her company with a heavy heart and came back home to her two younger siblings, Bianca who is twenty-two and the nineteen year old annoying, inquisitive, talking machine Leah. She surely had no brakes in her tongue.
Evette being twenty-six herself, had to act like a parent to help guide and protect them from this cruel world. They were very close to one another and could talk just about anything. The two sisters have been very respectful and considerate towards her emotions but too playful which was what she felt she needed to adjust to a different living environment altogether.
