CHAPTER 03: ‘The Weight of Compassion”
He doesn't even thank me. He simply responds with his arrogant tone. Apparently, his beauty matches his authority, just by the way he speaks.
I ignore what he said and continue finishing what I have to do.
He remains silent, just watching me perform the final sutures on him. Then he breaks the silence.
Deep in my heart, I knew that there was so much more to heal in that man than just physical wounds. There were deep emotional scars and an insatiable thirst for justice. I was determined to uncover the truth, not just out of curiosity, but because I felt that my own life was about to undergo a transformation in a way I could never have imagined.
As our gazes meet, I feel a mixture of fear and attraction. He is dangerously captivating, with a magnetic presence that is hard to ignore. However, this attraction is quickly overshadowed by the memory of his threatening actions and the way he treats me with disdain and authority.
His presence around me is suffocating. Every gesture, every word carries an aura of dominance and control. He is the kind of man who is accustomed to having the world at his feet, and it shows in his posture and demeanor.
Despite my determination to uncover the truth behind this enigmatic man, I also feel a tremor of fear. He is unpredictable, and I do not know how far he is willing to go or what he is truly capable of. I am torn between wanting to distance myself from him and an inexplicable curiosity that draws me closer.
There is a palpable tension in the air whenever we are together, like two opposing forces locked in a delicate balance. I cannot help but wonder what lies beneath his hardened exterior and what events have shaped him into this complex and dangerous individual.
In his presence, I am acutely aware of my vulnerability. I have become entangled in a web of uncertainty and danger, unsure of what lies ahead. But deep within me, there is a flicker of resilience and determination, a resolve to uncover the truth and find a way to protect myself from whatever darkness may lie within him.
"What do you want from me?"
"I already explained that I simply saved you. I know nothing about you, Damon. Is that your name?"
"How do you know my name? Who are you, and what do you want from me? This is the last time I'm asking."
"I'm not telling you anything. Shut up. And I know nothing about you; I just helped you. You're an arrogant and ungrateful man!" I argue with him.
"I think you'll obey me, whether you like it or not, Dr. Elena," he says, pulling out a gun from somewhere, probably concealed, and pointing it at my hip.
I'm scared, but I obey. My life is more important.
What a crazy guy. I save him, and this is how he thanks me, by threatening me and pointing a gun at me. How could I find him attractive? In silence, he's a poet, but speaking, he's a brutish ignoramus.
"You won't tell anyone where I am, understand? If you do, you know what will happen. Now, help me up and come with me, please."
Please? He's threatening me with a gun and still asking, please. This is a big joke.
I obey him. Since today is Saturday, the clinic is empty. There's no one to turn to. He blindfolds me with a tie he finds in the car and drives to an unknown location. I feel the car stop, and he pulls me inside a place.
Every minute feels like an eternity as my mind races in circles, trying to find a way out of this terrible situation. My heart pounds heavily in my chest, and my breath becomes irregular as the car comes to a stop and he pulls me into an unknown place.
I feel completely powerless and vulnerable in the face of this terrifying twist of fate. I have no idea what to expect next, but I am determined to survive and find a way to escape from this distressing situation.
