Chapter 04 "United by Destiny"

He threw me into the room and removed my blindfold. He paced back and forth, seemingly deep in thought, while staring at me intently. He appeared mysterious, cold, and seductive, but at the same time, I couldn't shake the feeling that he wasn't truly the monster he had shown himself to be.

I broke the silence.

"Where did I get myself into? I should have just left you there injured and stranded, you idiot," I said angrily.

He forcefully pulled me out of the chair and said:

"You're going to help me take a shower and get something to eat, Elena."

What an authoritarian guy, my god. How could he be like this? Who was he to think he could boss me around?

I looked around, and it was some kind of house or hideout, quite beautiful actually.

Since I didn't want to die anytime soon, I led him to the bathroom and helped him take a shower. This situation was extremely uncomfortable—I assisted in washing his wounds while stealing glances at his body. He had a defined abdomen, and his physique was marvelous. He was only wearing underwear.

He also stared at me intently, never taking his eyes off me for a second. I wondered what he was thinking.

I helped him out of the shower and dried him off. He was still a bit weakened. I went to the refrigerator in the room, which had some fruits and lasagna to heat up. I put the lasagna in the microwave and made strawberry juice. It was all I had.

He observed me the entire time, holding the gun in his hand. I gave him the food and sat next to him, watching him eat. I didn't know what mess I had gotten myself into, but he seemed like a big shot. Oh my god, get me out of this nightmare.

He remained silent, and the silence prevailed.

"Ouch," he groaned in pain. "Damn, this shit hurts a lot."

"Can I see?" I referred to his wounds and approached him calmly, but he looked at me with suspicion.

He was severely injured, and his wounds were reopening because he didn't let me suture them properly. This guy had serious trust issues.

"We need to go back to the clinic. We need medication and proper equipment to suture your wounds in a sterile environment. You were shot, and if you don't take care of it, it can get worse and become infected. In a few hours, you'll be burning with fever or worse," I said firmly, trying not to show the fear I felt around him.

He seemed to think about it. The way he looked at me was different, it seemed like he liked me, but the way he treated me said the opposite. What a contradictory guy. Oh, I think I've mentioned his gaze several times already, but it really made me feel uneasy.

"Okay, we'll go, but if you try anything funny or if you're plotting to escape, I'll go to hell and kill you," he warned.

I nodded. We went back to the clinic. Once again, he blindfolded me.

We entered my office, and I started suturing his wounds and gathering the necessary medications for him to recover. I couldn't believe I had unwittingly gotten myself into this situation. Maybe I should just let him die and fend for himself there. It would be better for me, at least I would be at home watching Netflix. You're an idiot, Elena.

We heard a knock on the door. He looked at me and became alert, holding the gun closer to me.

The only person who would come here today was the messenger responsible for delivering the medications. I was going to try something—I needed to get rid of this lun

attic.

"It's just the messenger who delivers medicines to me every day," I said. "I need these medications, they're important. If I don't open the door, he'll get suspicious."

He nodded.

I calmly went to open the door, not causing any alarm. I greeted the messenger and tried to communicate secretly, hoping he would realize that I was in danger and help me.

I attempted to use coded blinks but without success.

"Do you need anything, Dr. Elena?" he asked, not understanding my signals.

"No, thank you. That's all," I weakly smiled, afraid that Damon might have noticed something since he had the gun pointed at me behind the door. "You can go, Paulo. Here's your payment."

The messenger left. And here I was in trouble. Damon removed the gun from my back and returned to sit on the examination table. I thought about trying to escape, but it wasn't possible. I didn't know who this guy was. All I knew was that he had a gaze that made me feel uneasy, he was handsome and extremely dangerous. And I was caught up in a major mess.

Damon

I was completely in love with that doctor. I feel like it was love at first sight. I couldn't take my eyes off her, even if I wanted to. She was beautiful, and her self-confidence drove me crazy and made me yearn to have her by my side.

After the messenger left, she came back to me.

I was afraid, someone seemed to have set me up.

I received a call from my uncle.

— Damon, where are you? What happened, bambino?

— I was attacked. But I'm fine, I managed to get the documents, that's what matters. But those guys came after me and I got shot. He's not working alone, uncle. They want those documents.

— He knows how to manipulate people. Be very careful. Where are you?

— I'll talk to you later, it's better not to disclose my location over the phone.

I hung up the phone. Elena was standing in the same place where I left her.

I had to be cautious about her. She could turn me into the police. If it weren't for her, I'd be in trouble, but the mafia comes first.

— Please, I need to go home. I have patients, I have my life. They'll get suspicious. Let me go. We can't stay here forever.

— No. You could easily turn me into the police. I won't let you go, you're staying here.

By holding her against her will, I expected her to revolt against me, verbally assault me, and question why I was there. But she remained silent. She seemed afraid of me.

— Who are you? — she broke the silence. Why were you shot? You seem like a millionaire.

— Hmm, you got one thing right. I am indeed a millionaire. But I won't tell you who I am.

— Dude, I saved you, and you lock me up here, force me to take care of you, and all I know is that your name is Damon.

— That's already more information than you need to know, I replied.
