Chapter 10: What Could The Reason Be?

Chapter 10: What Could The Reason Be?

Alpha Roland's POV:

As I entered the room in the dungeon, I noticed the door was broken and splintered. It was lying there on the floor in several large pieces.  What just happened in here?! Who in their right mind would destroy pack property and break the door off its hinges in such a manner?!  The more I surveyed the damage, the more frustrated I became.  As I continued to look around, frustration turned to fury.  It was the fact that there were 3 other pack members, servants of all members, here, in this room trying to clean up the mess that was left behind.  I was beyond furious about that part, but that was not the thing that was my concern most of all.  I wanted answers about what happened previously.  However, they were not even paying attention to the fact that I had even entered the room in the first place.  How could they not notice their Alpha's presence?

Were they not even afraid of my initial appearance?  Or was there someone else they were expecting to enter the room and feared more!?  Something had to be the reason why they were not paying attention to the fact I came in at all.  Someone needed to answer my question right away and at that very minute before they knew what was coming to them.  Not to mention who they were going to be dealing with when the time came.  I had better get an answer before someone else was going to be swinging from the chain still hanging in the center of this very room.  The longer I stood there, the more shocked and pissed off I became.  I took a step closer to them.

'Did they just not hear what you said?  Are you going to let them get away with this?'  (Rex demanded, which did not help my frustration.)

I have to admit this was a bit aggravating.  They did not answer me when I first asked my initial question when I entered the room.  Then to make matters worse, they did not even act like they saw me or heard me when I asked it.  I did want to know what they were doing in here, but now, more importantly, I wanted to know why they did not seem to answer me when I first said anything.  That is what I really wanted to know first, and the reason behind it.  It even angered my wolf to the point where he started to ask me about the situation as well.

"What is going on in here?" I demanded once again as I stepped further into the room this time, then they all turned to face me while they stood in a straight line.  “Well, don't everyone answer me all at once?"

'Well, it seems like I certainly missed the party.'  (Duke said via Mind Link to me as I could hear walking up behind me.)

Duke was talking to a few other pack members who were in the hall after I entered the room.  I did not care to see what they were discussing in the hall as I was tending to more important issues at that moment.  I knew he would catch up to me at one point along this particular trip, as he was the one who was a few steps behind in cleaning up issues that were below me to take care of.  There were some things that I just did not bother with tending to, as I knew Duke could certainly handle those on his own.

When he walked into the room, his presence made sure they knew who was the one originally asking questions and demanding answers.  As to what they were doing here in the first place, they had better answer me this time.  I turned around a moment to look at Duke before I turned back around to face the servants once more.  I looked at each one of them still bent over in front of me as no one spoke up to that point.  The only thing that would make this better is if they were facing the other direction while they were bent over like that.

"Ahh, yes Alpha," one of them finally decided to speak in their bent-over position, as they made sure not to make eye contact with me.  "Ummm, well, you see, we were just..."

I smirked at the fact they could not speak without stumbling over their words.  They knew to fear my position as they were not allowed to speak to me.  I am guessing the thought of receiving a treatment far outweighs their not responding to me.  They already knew better than to look me directly in the eye, as that was not something servants were allowed to do.  I was in a place of authority and that position was to be feared among other things.  I wondered who was going to try to explain this situation.

Servants, for one, were not supposed to be at those lower levels without an escort.  This level was for, how would be a good way to word this in my own thoughts?  This level was for the treatment plans that were carried out for the servants when they did not do their jobs properly.  It was then that my thoughts were interrupted by someone else who had just come into the room and when I turned slightly, they stopped walking just in front of Duke.  Someone who I was not quite expecting to arrive at that moment.

"My apologies, Alpha," said the Matron, who was second in charge when it came to Matrons, that is.  "They were doing what I had instructed them to do previously."

"Where is Kerry?" I said as I turned around fully to face the Matron without missing a beat.

She was supposed to be the one who was second in charge and under Matron Kerry, who was supposed to be my lead Matron.  Kerry was the one who was to oversee how things were run when it came to the servants of the Pack.  I knew Kerry knew how to do her job and did not take mistakes from the servants very lightly.  I knew that if there were any issues, she was the one to make sure the servants got their proper treatment.  However, there was only one instance where I had to step in.  That was when she was away from the pack dealing with an errand that was needed at that time.  Otherwise, it was her who I trusted to do her job.

"And who were those men who were walking her out not long before now?" I asked at once, expecting her to answer me right away.  “What is going on here?!"

"My apologies, my Alpha," she said at once as she bowed, as the rest of the other three pack members were already doing the same.  After she bowed, she stood back up, although the other three remained in their current bowed-over position.  "I am not aware of the situation that called for her departure.  However, I figure it had something to do with her youngest servant who she frequently saw to the personal treatment of."

"What I want to know is why was His Highness carrying out that said servant Himself?" I said as I actually took a few steps closer to the Matron now.  "Why would He take matters into His own hands and carry her away like that?"

I was not keen to hear of His Highness taking matters into His own hands in such a degree as to carry out the offenders like that.  He would usually have his other Warriors do the dirty work as He went along.  So I really wanted to know why this circumstance was caught on His radar for wanting to intervene.  He would not take matters into His own hands unless there was an extreme nature to the situation.  I was sure of that.  However, there were not any extreme circumstances that were currently going to warrant His intervention in this case.  So what could have happened while I was in my office?  I had everything perfectly under my control.  So it really made me wonder why He wanted to step in when He did and take out the servant who had been causing issues earlier that morning.
