Chapter 6: Will She Ever Wake Up?

Chapter 6: Will She Ever Wake Up?

Alpha King Caspian's POV:

If I had to say so to myself, I had a whole lot going through my mind as we were driving swiftly toward the Imperial Clinic.  On the one hand, I was highly pissed off about the condition I had found my new Mate to be in.  I wanted to make sure the ones responsible for this would certainly pay for going overboard on the punishment.  The fact that they deemed that much force necessary according to the crime she committed by disrespecting the other members of the house?!  That made absolutely no sense to me to receive that much force, as the one pack member described to me prior to me releasing her from her bound position.  Then, on the other hand, I did not want to lose her due to not knowing about her situation sooner than I had learned about it today.

I knew I have previously taught my packs to punish those who were guilty, but I also ensured in those teachings to make sure the punishments fit the crime in those instances.  From what I understood about this entire situation today, her punishment certainly did not fit the crime.  I did not see how she could have disrespected the other members of the house.  From the mere sight of her, it looked like she was barely able to stand up in her current condition, let alone talk back to anyone.  How could she disrespect anyone?  I was merely baffled the more I thought about all of this.

As I continued going over these various thoughts in my mind, the last question that ran through my mind stuck around a bit more.  What could have happened if I had not come till later in the day?  Would her scent have been around at that point to where I could have found her in that state?  Or worse?!  Would she still be alive at that point?!  I feared more and more for her well-being and hoped that she would be alright once we finally arrived at our destination.

With each passing moment, I wondered if we would make it there on time.  She still whimpered a bit, unconsciously as we would hit a few bumps along the way she was lying across my lap as we were just about to get to our destination.  The Imperial Clinic was only about a 20-minute leisure drive from the Blue Moon Pack, and then only another 10 minutes from my very own castle.  However, knowing my hastiness in needing to get there, the driver knew how to shave that 20-minute drive to about 10.

I took that opportunity to reach into my pocket and pulled out my phone, making sure not to disturb her still lying in my arms covered by the blanket Maxwell brought her earlier.  I pressed the button on the side of the phone, turning off the device.  This situation was way more important to be concerned with than trying to check my phone with each buzz or message alert that rang in.  I also was not going to be interrupted by any unwanted phone calls that rang in either.  Everyone else was going to have to wait.  She came first.

'Do you think she is going to make it?'  (Cash asked nervously.)

'She had better.'  (I responded in a gruff tone, even to my standards.)

'Maxwell!'  (I said via Mind Link in a serious tone.)

'Yes?  Your Highness.'  (He responded.)

'I need you to do what is necessary to be able to obtain the proper information needed to proceed with this.  You know what to do.  I want results.  I want them, Now!'  (I said in a gruff tone as I almost shouted via Mind Link, due to the seriousness of the issue I was currently dealing with.)

'Understood, Your Highness.'  (Maxwell responded.)

The last thing is wanting to make an assumption about something when I knew we could obtain the proper proof to confirm what I already knew in the back of my mind.  Next, the driver swiftly pulled up to the Crisis Center, and the passenger door was immediately opened for me.  I swiftly got out of the vehicle and turned toward the entrance.  I swiftly yet gently carried her in my arms.  She whimpered a bit as she tried to adjust her position in my arms.  Once I was inside, I walked straight past the Aid Station, noticing that several of the Aides stood up in shock at seeing me carry someone straight into the clinic myself.  I started walking down the hall as I was looking for my room which was unoccupied at that moment.  That was when I heard a voice from right behind me calling out to me.

"Your Highness!?" I heard the voice say, and I did not want to turn around at that moment.  "Are you here for another..."

Only at that, did I finally turn around to see who it was that spoke from behind me.  When I turned around fully, still stopped in my position, I noticed that it was the doctor who had just come out of another room with a clipboard in her hand.  She had just walked out of another room and closed the door behind her.  When she saw me turn around holding someone in my arms, she finally stopped talking all at once.  Without another word from her, I started to walk at the same time she raised her arm in the direction that I was originally walking.  She quickly followed me to my own personal suite which I used when I needed to be seen for battle injuries and such.

As we were just about there, all at once she rushed past me to get to the door handle first.  That is before my Beta even had a chance to make it to the door, who was attempting to get it for me.  Right outside the door was another Aid Station.  After she opened the door, she started calling out to the Aides now standing at that desk to bring in a few select items as I had already walked into the room.  Once inside, I walked up to my bed and gently laid my Mate down on the bed, causing her to whimper and groan in pain.  You could tell by the sound in her throat and the look on her face that she was in serious pain.  The whimpering sounds she was making were not all that loud and it made me wonder why.  Someone who would be in that amount of pain would be screaming, not barely muttering a sound the way she was.

Just then, the doctor came right into the room, followed by a few other Aides and they brought in different trays of assorted items.  I knew the doctor was not sure what she was going to find but she had them bring the basic intravenous supplies and assorted bandages along with a few other supplies.  At that moment, I turned to look over at my Beta who was standing over by the wall out of the way.

"Wait outside, I do not want to be disturbed right now for any reason," I said to him directly.

I watched him for a moment and, without a word, he nodded to me and turned to leave the room.  I then focused my attention back on my Mate who was now curled up into a ball lying on her side in the center of the bed.   My heart felt heavy watching her, where I had laid her just a moment before.  I then walked up to the side of the bed and placed my hand on her head.  She was burning up as she had small beads of sweat forming on the top of her head.  I looked over at the doctor who was starting to raise the blanket and examine her visually, although she did not touch her yet in my presence.  I was not sure where to begin, let alone what I was going to say at that moment.  It was then, I could not help the low growl that rang out from deep within my throat as the doctor set the blanket back down and looked up at me.

"Your Highness," she started to say and then paused before she continued.  "I am afraid that I am going to have to ask you to step out into the hall for a moment."

"Under no circumstances will I do such a thing!" I shouted as the doctor stepped back a moment, almost expecting such a reaction.

When I snapped at her, it caused my Mate to whimper in fear a bit at my outburst at the doctor's request.  I was not prepared to hear what she stated.

'Who does she think she is, asking you to go out of the room, and for what reason?  This is Mate!'  (Cash said, utterly shocked.)

"Your Highness," she started to say once more in an even lighter tone than the one she used before.  "I am going to have to check her out and some of the things that I am going to do are not going to be pleasing to the sight of your Wolf."
