Chapter 3 The pregnant stranger happens to be a wolf.
Maxwell.
" Excuse me, Sir. She has a wolf gene in her blood" Harper said and stretched forth a brown-colored envelope in her hand to me as I was just about to exit the emergency room. She is a nurse, pretty, and has black curly hair that looks more attractive in her nursing cap.
" A wolf gene?" I asked surprisingly and took the envelope from her.
I tore the seal tape on the brown-colored envelope and slid the report inside of it. My eyes became brighter in excitement as I confirmed what Harper told me. This strange lady was truly and unbelievably a wolf - not just a wolf but a very pretty one. It's been a long I saw a wolf in our City. The last wolf I saw was an old rogue who came for treatment after he was shot at war. But this wolf doesn't look like a rogue. I could say from experience that she looks like a pack member who ran out of her pack for some reason.
The hatred between humans and the werewolf loomed since the outbreak of the last war between the vampires, feral humans, and the shapeshifters where a lot of humans' lives were taken. Ever since then, werewolves were banned from living in the City. The governor of this City and the presidency of the Country have made a huge sum of money for anybody that catches a wolf in the City. This is to tell you how bad we hate the werewolves because they were just like betrayals to us. So I was so surprised to see this blonde here, having the guts to walk into this hospital. Maybe she was thinking she could hide her identity which was very impossible. The truth is that the government has some rascals who were also werewolves. They are called rogues in werewolf cities and they are used to smell any hidden wolf in the City so she could not even escape or hide anything as she thinks.
" Then what's wrong with her and what's she doing here?" I asked Harper, the one who carried out a test on her and was as well surprised or confused. Either of the two happened to her.
" A document in her bag shows that she is part of those who are applying for the assistant doctor's position. Her credentials show that she graduated as the best student in the medicine and surgeon department and also proof the fact that she is a brilliant wolf" Harper said, paused for some minutes, and added, "Her test results also show that she drinks too much and this is not good enough for the nurturing life inside of her"
" She drinks? Nurturing life inside of her?" I asked, scamming through the test results in my hand once again. I might not have seen it in the first place due to the shock of the news that she was a wolf.
" Yes, Sir. She is three weeks pregnant and her SEM scanning results predict she will be welcoming triplets" Harper said, making this issue more complicated and interesting.
" Wow! She is three weeks pregnant. I guess that was the reason why she ran out of her pack. Maybe her triplets wanted to be killed or she doesn't like the supposed father of her baby" I adjusted my trimmed glasses and said.
I opened the door where the strange girl was treated and moved closer to her on the bed while Harper was busy checking her blood pressure and refilling the blood drip.
I slid my cold hand past a strand of hair that was resting on her face to the back and combed it backward again evenly when I saw her opening her eyes gradually to reality.
Imogen.
I opened my eyes gradually to meet the pairs of icy-blue eyes, black-colored skin, and a prowess-statured man that I saw before I passed out. I guessed he was Maxwell and a strong figure in this hospital. His smiles forced a grin from me but just as I could feel myself I tried jerking off from the bed.
" hey, pretty, You are safe here, just relax" Maxwell rested my head back on the pillow but could see me staring at Harper as if I was somehow scared of her. I know her. She was the lady I snatched out of her car yesterday. I was sure she knew me and most likely that I was a wolf. Her reaction shows that as she quivers on her spot. If Harper calls the police then I would be killed because this City doesn't tolerate a wolf.
Maxwell gestured at Harper and soon as she got the signal she turned to leave without hesitation, but spare me a quick glimpse in trepidation.
" My name is Maxwell and you?" Maxwell asked and stretch forth his hand.
" My name is Imogen" I responded.
" Nice name. I was told you are a wolf" Maxwell said putting on a ' I don't care ' look. Normally, humans are always scared of wolves but this man seemed to be convenient with the fact that I am a wolf. He was not even ready to attack me as I think. But how he knew was another thing I was so bothered about. Was he a wolf too?
" How did you know that I am a wolf?" I asked and gritted.
" Your genotype and your credentials proved" Maxwell added. I sighed and rolled my eyes to the transfusion pipes in my veins. It was true. They might have gotten this while searching for a best blood group to soothe my genotype. Fuck!!
" So why did you leave your pack to our place in search of work despite your qualifications?" Maxwell asked, feeling more comfortable with me and making me uncomfortable with him for remembering my sore past.
" That's none of your business, Maxwell. I am here to apply for the assistant doctor's position so let me know if I am qualified or not" I shifted his hand away from my hair and frowned at him.
Maxwell smiled and responded, " I think you should say a 'thank you for saving you instead of ranting"
I sat up on the bed and started removing the blood transfusion pipes connected to my veins. I didn't have time for all his talks. Though I appreciated the fact that he saved me but I was just feeling insecure with him. I needed to leave this place now especially now that he knows that I am a wolf. I had once read how humans kill wolves out of intense fear and lack of trust. Harper's feared face was proof.
I stepped my feet on the cold marbled floor. It sent a chill across my system causing me a little giddy as I stood up erect but was supported by Maxwell from falling.
" Imogen, you need to have a little rest. You have drunk a lot of liquor that has affected your strength and your nurturing life" Maxwell suggested and stretched forth his hand which was holding a typed short paper at me. I didn't have interest in collecting the paper but to be his last statement made me think otherwise. I snapped the paper from his hand and read.
" Three weeks pregnant?" I screamed, causing the little paper to fly off my hand.
" Yes, Imogen. You are three weeks pregnant. So I think by now you should know why you need to rest and have more fun of conversation like friends" Maxwell spoke.
