Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Carissa's pov
"Hey!" Someone shouting had jolted me back to reality. I wonder who it was that so wanted to talk to me.
"Yes?" I was waiting
"You're a witch!" She screamed
"Excuse me" I said and turned to leave
"You're a witch! How can you not know?" She inquired
"I don't know what you're talking about" I retorted.
"Someone has been following you, don't you want to know who?" She asked and I stopped in my tracks
"I can help you, come on now before someone sees us" She advised and I quickly followed her as she led me to a more secluded walkthrough.
"A vampire has been following you?" She dropped
"A vampire? Why?" I wondered. I had lied when I said I didn't believe they existed, something deep down in my soul knew already.
"I have no idea" she answered
"Do you have any idea who it might be?" I asked
"No, I don't. He is very careful about it"
"Wow!" I exclaimed
"But one thing you must know about vampires is that they are very dangerous and they hate us as much as we hate them." She warned
"Us?" I queried
"Yes, you don't need to hide with me. I know what you are. Hopefully, he'll be gone by tomorrow".
"Yeah. I'm going back to my place to work."
"Okay. The coven's pretty active. We're meeting tonight for the equinox. You'll know loads of us if you wanted to come."
"I'm still not comfortable around magic."
"Do you not use your powers at all?"
"I am a walking disaster on that front. My powers are so unpredictable. This morning, it happened by accident in public. I mean, no one saw, but they could have." I complained
"You should speak to Sylvia about that. She's the head of coven now. She might be able to help you." She advised
"It's okay. I'm used to it." I disapproved. I didn't like the idea of having to be around witches.
"Your magic, I can sense it. It feels so ancient, how long now?" She asked
"I will be late for work. If you will excuse me" I finished walking off.
(At work, with Margaret)
I was telling her about the ordeals of my day
"She thought that I...that I was a witch." I continued
"Witch?" She asked in shock, wide-eyed
"Some people still believe in witches. That magic is real. They believe in other creatures too." I explained
"Superstitious crap. I don't know how people can still be so ignorant. We're living in the 21st century." She laughed it off and when she saw I wasn't, she stopped.
"I'm so sorry, Carissa. That you had to go through that all by yourself"
"It's alright, I get used to it" I responded
"What do you say, lets go grab a drink later, eh?"
"Who will pay?" I asked, I don't have money to throw around
"Of course, I will"
"Good. We just might be able to grab that drink." I agreed smiling.
With the restaurant buzzing with customers, it was hard to tell if we would close early today.
Well, good for me. More customers meant better pay. Finally, it came to an end. One could finally go home.
"So I presume I'm seeing you tonight." Margaret repeated, referring to the drink we had earlier talked about
"No." I jeered
"Come on."
"No."
"Carissa, look, I've found a new place."
"I've just been on a 12-hour shift. I'm going home to crash."
"Last week was a mistake and I admit last week was a mistake."
"That's what you said last week."
"Tuesday's better than the weekend. You can get a booth, it stays open till 3:00am..."
"3:00am, midweek? Are you off your rocker?"
"And I'm pretty sure the DJ plays almost exclusively '90s R&B."
"See, when I'm not on shift, I'm in bed by 12."
"How come you never look tired?"
"I'm not a lightweight like you."
"A-huh."
"Have a good sleep."
"Five-a-side next week!"
"If you're awake."
Remembering the tons of voice messages and mails waiting by the time I would get home, perhaps a drink would not be such a bad idea. Just a shot or maybe two and I would be back home.
"Mag! Wait!" I screamed running back to her
"Yes?" She gave me a puzzled look
"Look, I changed my mind. I guess I do need a drink or two" I admitted
"Yes! I knew you would change your mind"
"You better get us there quickly before I change my mind again" I warned
"Come on now, you wouldn't dare" she jeered
"Do you think we're being followed?" I asked Margaret, I had felt that strange sensation again. And then I remembered what the lady from earlier today had said.
The strange sensation, the faint heartbeat, it was a vampire!
"No, who could possibly follow us?" She asked
"Anyone?" I replied
"You worry too much" she scoffed
"But right now, we are going to get you off that" she promised and I guess she was right. No sooner had we entered the club that I forgot all about it.
"Who is that?" I asked Margaret as the crowd yelled when a man walked in
"Oh, some weird and popular guy who seems to be of interest to every lady in here" she answered
"Ah..." I understood.
I kept taking shot after shot and glass after glass as Margaret was too busy with the men to worry about me. I had sent all the guys away because I knew how much of a jerk I can be when I drink a but too much.
I went over to the bar,
"Tequila, please" I begged.
And there was a man sitting across from where I sat, he felt strangely familiar. I waved but he must have missed it because his head was down.
"Sorry to intrude, but have we met before?" I went over and asked
"What part of minding your business in a place like this don't you understand?" He asked and my God, I knew that voice.
