Missing in Action
Violet sat there wondering why she had such a strong feeling while Eli was in her home. It was like an electric pulse thrumming in the air. A feeling of being on the edge of something, a dangerous discovery. Once he left the thrumming was gone and she felt she could finally breathe again. Ever since she turned sixteen she had this problem of feeling like she sometimes had no control over her feelings and instincts. Sometimes it showed up in these palpupal feelings, other times her sense would be on overload. No matter what it was, it was so weird. Eli seemed to crank this problem up to a whole new level.
She stood up and stretched. I guess it’s time to get to work. She went back to her old bedroom and looked around. It was exactly as she had left it in 9th grade. Light pink walls with posters of the Jonas Brother and Selena Gomez hanging everywhere. Her bed cover was teal and white on her queen sized bed. She had a white dresser with matching teal handles. She sighed and said to herself “I wasn’t sure I would ever come back and now this is my house. Man life changes in an instant.” She shook her head and walked down the hallway to the master bedroom. When she opened the door, she was surprised to see the only thing left in there was the king sized mattress. The giant four poster bed was gone, the pictures of her Aunt and Uncle, the hope chest with the quilts her Aunt made all gone. “Where are they!?!” she growled her voice making a sound she had never heard before. She quickly ran out of the house stomping up the bank of the lake. She knew exactly where she was going and who had taken all her stuff.
Eli looked out the window and huffed. Why did she have to come now? Why her? He crossed his arms and brooded. Alex started laughing. “Brother you knew this day would come. Why are you so angry? It’s not like she was some stranger.” He had a twinkle in his eyes. “I saved you in the house, you know. Saying I yelled for you. Really you ran out like a love struck pup coming to save the damsel in distress.”
Eli growled a low and menacing growl. Alex put his hands up “okay okay. I won’t tease you about her……..right now.” Quickly a pillow came flying at Alex’s head, Alex was too quick and ducked. The pillow hit a picture on the wall and it hit the ground with a loud thud. “She is on her way here.” Eli said glaring out the window. “Don’t let her in, do you hear me?”
“Oh come on Eli, what’s it going to h-“ a growl cut him off and he bowed his head. “Yes sir.” Alex said solemnly. He hated it when his older brother used that much authority over him; it wasn't fair.
Eli watched until she was close enough to see him. He quickly moved away from the window and took long fast strides out the back door. He was leaving Alex to handle the mess and the very angry looking young lady. Once out the door he circled around to the opposite side of the house. He should be able to keep tabs on the conversation froom there. He stopped on the side of the house where he could listen to the conversation but not be seen by violet. He was trying to convince himself it was just his curiosity that drove him of ease drop not the beautiful red head making her way up to his front porch.
Bang, bang, bang Violet knocked with all her might until the door opened and Alex was standing there smiling. She was taken back by the fact that the young sweet boy had opened the door and she instantly felt calmer. “Hi Alex, can I speak with your brother please.” She said as controlled as she could but there was still an air of aggression behind the request.
“Sorry Violet, he just ducked out, what can I do for you?” tilting his head and looking out the doorway.
“I really need to speak with him. It is very important. I don’t think you had anything to do with it so I would rather take this up with your brother Eli if I recall correctly.” She said through gritted teeth. She was trying to keep cool even though she couldn’t help but feel like Eli was close by and that feeling set her on edge.
Eli peaked around the corner of the house. There she was looking like she might explode. Wow, thought Eli, what a fiery little redhead she is. He looked at her from the back and he could see every beautifully sculpted muscle in her shoulders. That racerback tank top did wonders for them. Eli shook his head wondering what she was thinking; she would be his undoing if he was not careful. He could hear her voice growing more intense and it put a smile on his face. A little voice in his head whispered, she is sexy when she is mad. Eli took a deep breath hoping it would clear his head.
“I am sorry Violet. I am not sure where he went but I can give him a message. What is it that I had nothing to do with?” Alex looked at her with wide innocient eyes. He seemed like such a sweet kid.
“My things are missing from the master bedroom. I am sure your brother cleaned it out.” Violet rubbed the tension in her neck. She couldn’t help but feel like someone was watching her and it made her even more tense.
“Okay” he said “I will make sure he knows your concern. I am sorry about your Aunt and Uncle by the way.” Alex put a hand on Violet's shoulder. She smiled and slowly backed away. “Hey if you need a way to clear your head there is a path right behind the house it might be worth your while.” Alex whispered this and winked at Violet. Violet knodded her head in understanding.
“Thank you Alex.” She said and started walking to the other side of the house, where she was sure she would find the man who was causing all this trouble.
