Flash Backs are a Bitch

Violet woke to the light hitting her face and the sound of birds. A sweet beautiful melody of birds like she had never heard before. It was like they were calling to her to come outside and join them. All of sudden she felt the urge to go for a run. It was like a yearning she needed to fulfill. She sat up. Yes, a run would be good, so I can think clearly and focus on everything that has happened. She got up, found her favorite work out top, running shorts and put in her earbuds and ran out the door. She decided a loop around the lake would be a good start. She set off toward the opposite side of the lake from where the other little yellow house was. She hadn't seen the boys since she left in a rush last night and she wasn't sure she was ready to again. I am ready Lettie popped up. Violet decided to ignore her and keep on her run.

I can turn into a wolf, Violet thought. What would my uncle say about this? Did he know? Why can I turn into a wolf, am I a werewolf? No way those don't exist but then again people in the real world don't turn into wolves. I must be going crazy. That's it, probably PTSD from that night.

.......

"Run!" Violet screamed watching her uncle display the shock and horror she was feeling.

"Violet." Uncle Scott ran towards her but he saw it was too late as she fell to the ground, the man with the black hair standing over her. Suddenly a hand was around his neck and he heard a growl he knew could only belong to one type of being, a werewolf. Grabbing at the hand trying to get more are. His voice comes out raspy as he says "what do you want?" The man with the silky black hair turned around and sauntered towards him. Uncle Scott saw his yellow eyes and shuttered.

"We would have left you alone old man but you had to come outside and be nosy." he grabbed a hold of Scotts face and squeezed. "You look just like your idiot brother, what was his name? Oh yes, Stephen. He tried to save her too. But we killed him."

"mmm, Uncle Scott." Violet tried to stand but couldn't. Her face fell back into the dirt facing the man who had her Uncle. He reared back and punched Uncle Scott right in the gut. "no" she whispered. She started army crawling toward the shop. If I can just reach the emergency system she thought. Whap another blow and she could hear her uncle groan.

"She is human, you don't need her." Uncle Scott said in a manic voice.

"How can that be? You're wrong, and she will be mine." The man said in a snarl.

Almost there Violet thought. Then all of a sudden she heard the sickening sound of tearing and the gurgling noise of blood. "No" She screamed and was grabbed by the other man picking her up and turning her towards where her Uncle once stood. What she saw she will never unsee her uncle's head in the hands of a sinister man. Her attacker.

......

Violet was so deep in the memory that she once again wasn't paying attention and ran straight into Eli. Eil wrapped his arms around her "whoa there it's okay." He swallowed her up in a comforting embrace. Violet didn't even realize she was crying... again. She felt like she should be embarrassed. She was not usually this weak, but she didn't care; she felt comfort in his arms. That is what she needed right now. "Vi, are you hurt? What happened?" There was worry in his voice that surprised both himself and Violet.

"I'm fine. I am sorry. Flashbacks are a real bitch." Violet said as she started to pull away. "I just wanted to run."

"Flashbacks, what do you mean?" Eli had concern in his eyes she could see that, but there was something else she couldn't quite put her finger on.

"It's fine, just something I am going to have to live with." She said stronger now, wiping off her face and straightening her ponytail. She started taking deep breaths. Eli went to touch her arm but she pulled back. A flash of hurt crossed his face but it was gone before she could really see it. "You and I need to talk today." She said, more determined.

"You're right, we do, but first I have something that might explain things a little better than I can. Do you want to finish your run with me?"

Violet noticed she was only halfway around the lake. Might as well she thought. "Sure, but then we talk."

" I wouldn't have it any other way, sweetheart." He said with a smirk and off they ran.

They ran in silence Violet taking in the beauty of her surroundings. They have never seemed so vibrant before like she could feel the life in these woods. She had visited Anthony Lake for years and never saw it with this much vitality and life. She was in awe of it all.

What did she mean flashbacks, Eli thought. He looked at her from his peripheral vision. She was smiling and seemed to be coming alive. It was the happiest he had seen her since she got to the lake. I want her to stay this way Eli thought. Then shook his head. You are not looking for a mate. Stop it. With that Elis spoke up, You may not be but I sure am. She is going to be our everything. Stop it. You have no say, besides she doesn't even know that we are mates or what a mate is.

They soon got to the house and walked up the front porch. Alex opened the door "Good morning Violet, have a nice run?" He smiled a big toothy smile "I see you brought back some trash with you." Eli punched him in the arm and Violet let out a laugh so contagious they joined in. "Want some breakfast, Vi? I made waffles."

Violet wanted to resist but waffles were her favorite and she was starving. "Sure thank you, Alex." He took her into the dining room and gave her a plate. Soon Eli was over at the table with a white envelope in his hand and a small wooden box. "What's that you got there Eli?" Violet said as he sat down across from her. "A present for little ol' me?" She taunted him with a smile.

"It's something to help you." He looked nervous to Violet but she didn't understand why. "Vi I think we should eat before you open it."

"Why? if it is going to help me understand what is going on then I want it now," Violet said with authority.

"It's not a good idea you aren't in control yet. Now eat your waffles, here's the syrup." Eli said with force.

"I don't think so, give it to me now. I am not hungry anyway." Violet held a hand out waiting for the envelope.

"Hey Vi, normally I don't agree with my brother because, well he is a hard ass, but new Wolves tend to not have any control over shifting so," Alex said trying to ease the tension.

"New wolves. Am I a wolf?" Violet asked in a whisper. She suddenly wasn't hungry.

"Damn it, Alex!" Eli growled.

"What I say?" Alex asked sheepishly.

"It's okay. I will eat if you start talking." Violet said with a finality that the boys could not refuse.
