Chapter 6: What Miss, Call Second Sister-in-Law

A woman's voice, sounding like a burst of machine gun fire, could be heard, aggressive and imposing:

"I despise men like you the most, useless and spineless mama's boys! If you have the energy and ability, go argue with the Cooper family. Lingering here means nothing, you're no hero!"

Emily rolled up her sleeves, full of momentum and fierceness.

Marcus received a slap to the face and his expression turned unpleasant.

However, Emily was not afraid, standing tall and straightening her back. "Three seconds, get out and never appear in front of Isabella again, eyesore!"

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Isabella shook off Marcus’s grip and walked over to the bedside, feeding water to the elderly lady. "Grandma, here..."

After taking a couple sips of water, Grandma Wallace recovered a bit and asked, "What's going on, Isabella?"

"No worries, it's just Emily and her loud voice, you know," she spoke softly, her tone pleasant to listen to. "Just rest assured."

Once Grandma Wallace was settled and resting, Isabella stood up and looked at Emily, who was sitting at the foot of the bed.

"What are you looking at!" Emily said irritably. "I told you before that you misjudged him, yet you still defended him!"

"That's all in the past," Isabella sat down, leaning against her shoulder. "Emily, it was so difficult, really difficult."

"If I hadn't come in time, how were you planning to get rid of him? Let me warn you, Isabella, if you soften your heart towards Marcus again, I will sever ties with you!"

She shook her head. "That's impossible."

"It's for the best." Emily said, blissfully unaware of the impending confession.

"I'm married now, I have a husband," Isabella replied. "If Sebastian finds out about us interacting again, it will end horribly."

The water Emily had just drank sprayed out when she heard this. "What did you say? Married?"

"Yes," Isabella handed her a tissue without changing her expression. "I got married yesterday, I didn't have the chance to tell you."

"With whom?"

"Oh, right," Isabella remembered something, interrupting Emily’s barrage of questions. "Where do you work at the property sales office?"

"Bloomington Mansion."

"Who is your boss?"

Emily's eyes shifted around. "Which one are you referring to? The person in charge of the sales office? Or my manager? Or the overall project manager, or..."

"The development company for Bloomington Mansion," Isabella clarified.

"Lawrence Group," Emily answered fluently.

"This mansion is the largest real estate project invested by Lawrence Group in the first half of the year, it’s worth billions. The current president of Lawrence Group is Sebastian, my top boss."

"Then it's correct," Isabella said. "I got married to him."

"Say that again? You got married and have ties with Sebastian, the same Sebastian Lawrence all the New York socialites want to marry?"

"Yes."

Emily pinched herself. "You managed to win over such a man and marry him just like that, I'm speechless."

"Under the Pomegranate Skirt?"

"Yes," Isabella flicked her hair and said, "It's enchanting."

"How did you end up sleeping with him?"

Isabella frowned, "...It was clearly his idea to sleep with me!"

As Emily was leaving, she held Isabella's face in her hands and let out a long sigh.

"I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse that you married Sebastian. I've been struggling to say the words 'happy marriage' and 'happily ever after' because they are stuck in my throat."

The next day, the hospital used the best medicine and equipment to conduct a thorough examination.

Isabella's heart finally dropped its heavy stone. At noon, she returned to the Wallace family.

As soon as Isabella stepped into the living room, she heard Sharon's sarcastic voice.

"Isn't this Miss Wallace? You've really got some skills—worth six hundred thousand for one night."

"Watch your mouth," Isabella said. "Besides, no one would want you even for sixty thousand."

"No matter how broke I am, I would never do something so shameless," Sharon put down her phone and crossed her arms. "Despicable."

"Sharon, when the Wallace family was in trouble, you were useless and only knew how to squander money on eating, drinking, and having fun. What right do you have to mock me?"

"You're right, I'm not as good as you. Not only can you sell yourself, but you can also go on blind dates. But... I heard that the old man is very dissatisfied with you," Sharon said, raising her voice suddenly.

"Mom, the person you're looking for has arrived."

Judy appeared out of nowhere, muttering curses. "Isabella, you brat, what did you do to sabotage this blind date?"

"Yes," Isabella responded. "Such a great old man, I can't afford such luck. Judy, why don't you give it a try? Or maybe Sharon can, if all else fails... you two together."

"You dare argue with me? I wonder how your grandmother usually educates you."

Isabella's expression immediately turned cold. "Show some respect to my grandmother."

"They are halfway into their graves. What's wrong with saying a few words!" Judy said with a sneer. "By the way, I apologized to someone, and they're willing to give you another chance. Isabella, if you dare to interfere again..."

Isabella's icy gaze swept over the mother and daughter. "I understand your plan. The Wallace family has no more benefits to reap, so you plan to make a fortune from me and then run away."

Judy scoffed. "So what if that's the case or not? Either way, your father supports it, and you have no say! Next time you go to meet, I'm going with you!"

"Do you think I would just accept it?"

"No, but Isabella, if I have to, I'll have to bind you as well!"

"Oh? Bind?" A crisp, deep voice sounded, seemingly casual but carrying a powerful aura. "I would like to see who dares to touch my wife, Isabella."

Sebastian's hands were casually inserted into his trouser pockets as he walked over, his expression distant and aloof, but his eyes were always on Isabella.

Isabella stared at him. "You, you..."

"What about me?" Sebastian raised his hand and carefully tucked her stray hair behind her ears. "Why do you always look so disheveled whenever I see you?"

"How did you come here?"

"To see my wife," Sebastian replied. "Is that not allowed?"

Judy and Sharon were petrified on the spot.

Anyone who mixed in the upper echelons of New York knew the Lawrence family, and they especially knew the second young master of the Lawrence family, a formidable figure who held sway over New York, respected by socialites and A-list actresses alike.
