Chapter 3

Room 608.

When I entered, the caregiver was wiping Daniel's body.

There was a faint hint of impatience on the middle-aged woman's face. She hastily wiped the exposed skin a few times with rough and violent movements.

And Daniel, like an exquisite doll, didn't even blink his eyes.

I need to examine him; you can leave,” I said.

Alright, Doctor Taylor.”

After the caregiver left, I turned my gaze to the “vegetative patient.”

It's just the two of us now; stop pretending.”

Daniel slowly opened his eyes. His gaze was clear.

How are you feeling today?”

Not bad,” he said, lifting his arm to his nose and making a disgusted face. What kind of towel did she use? It smells bad.”

I pulled over a chair and sat down.

My gaze focused on the data in the instruments, absent-mindedly saying,

So, you want to take a bath?”

“Good idea.”

Huh?

I immediately turned my head and looked at him from head to toe, scoffing, “Take a bath; can you even get out of bed?”

Daniel propped himself up with his elbows, struggling to sit up, exuding determination despite his physical disabilities.

He smiled casually and said, “I don't know; let's try.”

I turned back and continued to focus on the instruments, saying, “Don't bother trying; it won't work. I've never seen a vegetative patient who woke up less than two days ago, able to ―”

The unfinished words got stuck in my throat.

I slowly lifted my head.

Looking up at the man standing in front of me.
