Chapter 12

The next morning. He held me and kissed my hair, so gently and lovingly.

"Honey," I hugged his neck and coquettishly said.

"Yeah."

"Our beachside villa is so far from the city, it's inconvenient for me to go shopping."

"And then?" He lowered his eyes and stared at me.

"I think a 360° penthouse apartment in the city would be nice, overlooking the entire New York City. It suits your status,"

I playfully drew circles on his chest with my finger.

"Is that so? Should I get you one?" He asked with a smile.

"Ah...such a big house must be expensive...how could I..." I felt a burst of excitement in my heart.

"Grace, after going through so much trouble climbing into my bed and saying those sweet words, was this your intention all along?"

Suddenly, he got angry. He threw off the covers, got out of bed, and started washing up and getting dressed. His movements were swift and smooth.

"Of course not! I swear! Do you trust me?" I denied three times.

"What do you think of me? After wearing me out all night, am I just a tool?"

When he was tying his tie, I suspected he wanted to use it to strangle me. Why was he so angry? I wasn't even angry yet!

"Kenneth, you got it wrong. Who was the one being tossed around last night?"

I truly was the trouble-solver.

"I find it disgusting."

With those words, he picked up his coat and left, leaving behind a cold silhouette. I stood still, stunned.

I sat quietly in the hotel for two hours, unable to figure out how the situation had turned out like this. A condo shouldn't be a big deal for him, so why was he like this? Showing no mercy, he just left me behind. Indeed, the wealthy are the stingiest.

Later, I texted him, but he didn't reply. I called him, but he was either in a meeting or too busy, always avoiding me. A change of plans, a change of attitude? Once again, my plans fell apart. I truly felt like I had lost myself and gained nothing. When I finally managed to contact him again,

"Honey, want to have dinner together?"

He sounded very impatient, "Grace, just say what you want next time, don't beat around the bush."

I was so angry I couldn't find words. The feeling of being ignored was unbearable.

"I did say it, so are you buying it?"

"That'll cost a billion," he paused for a moment, "do you really think you're worth that much?"

I was speechless in an instant. The conversation wasn't pleasant, so I hung up the phone.

Staying at the hotel is really boring. Let it be destroyed, forget about it, the human world is not worth it. I took Kenneth's credit card and booked myself the most luxurious business class seat back to Lake City.

It wasn’t until the evening that he texted me, asking, "Weren't we supposed to have dinner together? Where are you?"

I looked at the text message and chuckled in my heart. Has he become idle and started thinking of me?

"I've returned to Lake City."

He paused for a second, his tone indifferent,

"Grace, I am busy every day and rarely have time to have dinner with you. Don't play with me."

Am I playing with him? To be honest, I am playing with him, too.

"Sure, darling, how about having dinner in the clouds?" I started a video call with him.

I placed the Teddy dog at home in front of the camera, allowing his kind to accompany him and eat to their heart's content.

"Grace, what do you mean?" he exclaimed in anger.

"Darling, don't get angry. Being angry is bad for the heart, and a bad heart can lead to sudden death. Then how will I spend all your money by myself? That's quite distressing."

"Are you going to make snide remarks every time we talk in the future?"

"If my darling doesn't like it, then I'll just be mute from now on."

He never replied to me again. From then on, we started a cold war that lasted for two weeks.
