Chapter 13

I went shopping every day and indulged in excessive eating, not bothering to care about him.

According to the original plan, he was supposed to go directly to another city and return to Lake City after about a month. However, he suddenly came back midway. When he returned, I was attending a party with my girlfriends. He called me on the phone.

"We need to talk."

"Can we do this tomorrow morning at ten? I'm really tired."

"You're so tired, but your Instagram location shows you're still at the KTV?"

I was startled! I quickly hung up the phone and then realized that I should delete the photos from my social media. Miranda noticed my anxious expression and asked, "What's wrong?"

"He's back and found out that I was at the KTV so late. My dignified image is ruined again." I sulkily sipped on my orange juice.

"Why are you so afraid of him now? You're not even drinking alcohol anymore, you've become so well-behaved," Miranda teased me.

"I'm not afraid of him. I just feel hopeless about my marriage."

At the class reunion, everyone envied me for becoming a wealthy wife, even my former teachers looked at me differently. I received so many text messages that my hands almost went numb. But who really knows the hardships of being in a wealthy family?

"But, since you're married, you should have a serious talk with him," Miranda suggested.

"He likes that other person and doesn't like me. How can I talk to him? I have no leverage."

"That's true..." Miranda glanced at me and asked, "So, during this time when you were away, did anything happen between you two?"

As soon as she mentioned it, I lost my confidence.

"Don't bring that up."

"Why not?"

"Before I met him, I thought I could be very proper and not interested in a man's physicality."

"And then?" Miranda suddenly became interested.

"I...really couldn't control myself," I sighed, "Just imagine, a handsome man lying in front of you, almost falling asleep, with such a great body...right, it's really..."

Miranda burst into laughter, spitting out the drink she had just taken. I looked at her expressionlessly.

"Well, that's funny, isn't it?"

I waited for her laughter to subside, thinking she had laughed enough, but then she winked at me sneakily and asked, "How does it feel?"

"Not great, I must say. I advise you not to try it; adult films are all deceitful."

I gestured with my hand, unable to help shaking my head. She clearly understood my body language, and her face turned pale with shock.

"No way, is he not good at it? Either way, he wasted his good looks."

"Is that true? I've heard that... one needs a lot of practice... and needs to learn the techniques..."

I was truly speechless. How could she even say such things? It was so embarrassing. Just then, a familiar voice sounded from above.

"Grace."

I looked up and saw my annoying ex-boyfriend Ryan. My heart skipped a beat. But it had only been three months, how did he become so thin?

"Seniora." Miranda also froze.

"May I have a moment alone to speak with Grace?"

"S-sure." Miranda gave me a look that said, "Take care of yourself," and quickly left.

Ryan sat down in front of me, looking at me affectionately.

"Long time no see," he said, his eyes reddening.

Seeing him like this, I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him.

"Why are you here?" I asked.

"How have you been?" we both spoke at the same time.

The atmosphere became even more awkward.

"I'm doing fine," I smiled, "What do you want to say?"
