Chapter 14

I quietly looked at him.

"My mom contacted you, didn't she?" he got straight to the point.

When he said it, his tone was filled with sadness.

"Yes," I answered honestly.

"Just because of her, you broke up with me?"

"It's partly because of her, but not entirely."

He stood there, taking a deep breath.

"Do you know? At first, I thought you were just playing around with me, but then you stopped being unreasonable and calmly blocked me, and I realized you really wanted to break up. I couldn't understand why, until later when I found out my mom contacted you... she made you leave me, didn't she? It's my fault, I didn't protect you."

As he spoke, he started crying. A tall guy over six feet standing in front of me, crying like a baby. Seeing him like this, it would be fake to say I wasn't sad. After all, he was someone I once loved.

"It's all in the past," I took out a tissue from my bag for him.

Other than that, I didn't know what else to do. During our breakup, his mom said to me,

"Grace, with your background and insignificant family, you can't be part our wealthy family. Ryan must have spent quite a bit of money on you during your relationship, be content with that. He kept you outside, not letting his family know, his aunt turned a blind eye. It's absolutely impossible for you to be part our family."

It was the first time I had experienced such humiliation. I cried all night that night. I messaged him, asking,

"What will you do if your mom doesn't agree to us being together?"

He replied, "I don't know."

At that moment, I thought, why would I marry someone like him? Am I looking for trouble after having a full meal?

"If I convince my mom, can we still be together?" he suddenly asked me.

I was momentarily stunned. I just felt... amused. Amused to the point of tears.

"Ryan, I'm married," I revealed, showing him my ring.

"But you don't love him!" he broke down at the sight of my ring. "You can deceive everyone, but not me. You don't love him at all."

"So what?" I smiled at him.

I don't love Kenneth, and Kenneth doesn't love me. I think it's fair. I loved Ryan once, and what did I get in return? His mother's humiliation towards me, and his weakness within his own family. By marrying Kenneth, at least I gained money. One should not be so greedy.

"Divorce him and let's start over, can we?" he held my hand, pleading quietly.

My head started to ache. How could there be such an immature person?

"Alright then, go tell your mom that she should give me half of your company shares," I asked him with a smile.

He was shocked, staring at me for a full minute.

"Grace, I can't decide on the shares, and my mom won't... can you accept something else?"

I took a deep breath.

"So, Ryan, you say you love me, but how do you love me? Just with empty words?"

"Unfortunately, I've already surpassed the age of listening to love,"

I let go of his hand and was about to leave when he hugged me from behind. The next second, the door was pushed open. In the dim light, Kenneth stood still, his expression somewhat unreadable.

"Am I interrupting something?"

I felt a thump in my heart. Kenneth's disappointment was evident in his tone.

"I'm just here to remind you that I won't be back for a month. You can catch up with your old lover," he said and walked away.

It seems that he misunderstood. I felt a sense of urgency in my heart, but I remained calm on the surface and asked Ryan to let go.

"Let go of me."

"No, I won't."

Seeing Kenneth walking away, I couldn't care too much anymore. I kicked Ryan away and chased after him. He was walking fast, and by the time I caught up, he had already entered the elevator leading down to the garage. I quickly pressed the adjacent elevator button, but as luck would have it, after entering the elevator, it went up floor by floor, and then slowly descended. Each floor had people coming in and out. By the time I arrived at the garage, it was already ten minutes later. Feeling frustrated, I started calling him. He didn't answer. He was definitely angry. After calling for a while, just as I was about to hang up, I faintly heard the sound of ringing in the garage.
