Chapter 16

Kenneth and I began another long cold war. We slept in separate rooms, not interfering with each other. I don't know why, but before he ignored me, I could still get along with him just fine. But since this incident, I always feel uncomfortable being in the same space with him. So I made an excuse to go back and stay with his grandfather, and then I just stayed at his grandfather's house and didn't leave. I don't know if it's because we fought, but I've had no appetite lately, and my chest feels tight. I've been away on a business trip for a month and we haven't seen each other once, and we've only talked on the phone a couple of times. One day, he called his grandfather, and I happened to be nearby. Next, my grandfather happily asked me to talk to him for a moment. Actually, I was incredibly embarrassed.

"Have you been to Grandfather's place?" It had been a month, and his voice sounded unfamiliar.

"Yeah."

"I...will be back next week."

"Oh."

"Aren't you going home?" he asked me again.

"I left because Grandfather was too lonely. He can't do anything without me now." I made up an excuse not to go back.

What's the point of going back? He doesn't pay any attention to me, and he doesn't come home either. I am all alone in the villa, truly at a loss.

"Why do you always bother Grandfather?"

"I'm not bothering Grandfather, I bother you when I go back?" I retorted.

He fell silent and sighed, "I'm hanging up."

Lately, he has been calling his grandfather too frequently. And it's quite a coincidence that every time he calls, I happen to be playing chess with Grandfather.

"What kind of nonsense move did you make?" Grandfather scolded him over the phone while playing chess with me.

"Coming home once or twice a month, you might as well not come back at all. Spend your whole life outside, as far as I'm concerned, I don't have a grandson like you."

"Busy? What are you busy with? Are you short of money or short of brains?"

"Why don't you spend your whole life as a bachelor, holding onto your money?"
