CHAPTER 4

However, as the morning sun cast its gentle glow over the lobby of The Grand Palazzo, I observed a figure entering with purposeful strides. It was a very attractive and elegant lady whom i suspected will be same age as I. I watched her, curious about her sudden appearance. Lost in my thoughts, I barely registered her presence until she addressed me with a casual greeting. "Hey, new front deskers! How are you today?" Her words caught me off guard, as I momentarily mistook her for a guest. Confused and slightly shocked, I stammered a reply, trying to regain my composure.

"I-I'm good, thank you," I managed to respond, my voice tinged with uncertainty. "Can I help you with something?"

Berky's demeanor shifted, her tone taking on a more authoritative air. "Actually, yes. I need you to gather the files of the sales from last month and the present. I require them for a meeting with Mr. Hawthorne."

Her request took me by surprise. I hadn't anticipated having to interact with William's personal assistant, let alone fulfill her requests. I quickly nodded, feeling a mix of disappointment and hurt. I didn’t even know Williams had an assistant.

Before I could fully process the situation, Emma, my loyal colleague and confidante, approached me, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "Sarah, that's Berky, Mr. Hawthorne's personal assistant. She's quite something, isn't she?"

I nodded, a sense of relief flooding over me as I realized the true identity of the enigmatic woman. "Yes, I was taken aback at first. It's just surprising to see how involved William is in the day-to-day operations and that he has a personal assistant." Williams's office was in the executive part of the building and not everyone has access to the entrance. He never for once mentioned having an assistant.

Emma chuckled, her eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, Sarah, you have no idea. Berky is not only his personal assistant but also someone who keeps a close eye on everything that goes on in this hotel, especially when it comes to William."

Curiosity piqued, I leaned in, eager to unravel the mysteries that surrounded Berky. "What do you mean, Emma? What is she observing, and why?"

Emma lowered her voice, her tone tinged with intrigue. "Rumor has it that Berky has more than just a professional interest in William. She's been harboring feelings for him, and she keeps a close watch on his interactions, particularly with those who catch his attention."

A mix of surprise and caution washed over me. I hadn't anticipated such a twist in the story, the presence of an ambitious personal assistant with hidden desires. It made me question the depth of William's connection to me.

As the realization settled in, I couldn't help but look up and notice how William's gaze often lingered on Berky, a warm glint in his eyes. Jealousy flushed within me, an emotion I hadn't expected to confront.

My anger towards Williams grew, and I felt ashamed of myself for allowing delusion to cloud my judgment. I had foolishly let myself believe that his openness and closeness toward me was a sign of romantic affection, only to now realize the complexities of the situation. I found myself confronting the truth—I had fallen in love with my boss.
