CHAPTER 4 Different Women

Willow's POV

I knew before I had even seen them together.

The mate connection we shared allowed me to clearly feel his excitement as he kissed Lila's lips and not my own, his arousal as he tore at her clothes and marveled at her nakedness, and not my own, and the worst part of it? The way that the pleasure and excitement that flooded me turned so quickly into agonising, physical pain as he plunged his cock inside of her, and not me.

The pain in my chest was almost indescribable as it threatened to choke the very breath from my lungs. My heart felt as though it had been sliced out by an enemy and crushed in their uncaring hands. Even the strongest warrior would struggle to withstand the pain of betrayal from the mate bond yet here I stood, like a fool. I wanted to run, far away from this suffocating place and let my wolf run off her grief in the freedom of the forests, and howl her sorrow to the brightness of the moon.

The part that disgusted me the most was that even when Mason buried himself inside whichever was his favourite woman at the time, he could feel every single one of my emotions. The pain, the sadness, my gut wrenching despair, but still he didn't stop in his pursuit of the next she wolf to open her legs for him. It was in this way that he revelled in the torture that I experienced at his hands.

Married for more than a year and tormented constantly by the mate bond. because I could always feel my fated mate's pleasure as he fucked any woman he could lay his hands on apart from me. I had hoped that one day Mason would let go of this stupid hatred that originated from our families past actions, but now I was slowly losing hope that the day would ever come.

It was no secret within the Shadowclaw Pack that I was the despised and unwanted mate. Everyone knew it and openly blamed me for it. They said that it was because I had been unable to give the Alpha the heir that was required after we married.

That fact alone made them gradually lose the small amount of respect that they had initially had when we first married. I still saw to the other superficial duties that i was required to do, but the longer it went without any sign of an heir, the more openly the pack taunted me, just as Lila had done so publicly tonight.

Not a single person knew that Mason and I had never laid together as he did with other women, and he had deliberately been claiming that the lack of an heir was down to my own inadequacies. An infertile Luna was worthless in the pack's eyes, so they remained silent as Mason worked his way through the she-wolves in the pack, hoping that one day soon, a healthy wolf would give birth to the child of the Alpha. It would never be as good as one born to the pack's Luna, but it was certainly better than nothing.

So with Mason's hatred and the interference of the Elder Council I was stuck with a painful marriage.

I didn't know how long I would be forced to endure these conditions, or even if there would be an end to my misery, all I could do was to endure this pain, day after miserable day.

Trying to ignore the piercing pain in my chest, I closed my eyes towards the painful scene, not wanting the image of the two entangled bodies etched into my mind, and turned to leave.

I made my way back to my room, but I had no time to grieve in the privacy of my own room as there was still a lot business to be seen to in regards to the merger with the Blackclaw Pack.

It was imperative that we actively maintained the relationship between the two Packs and constantly sought new business opportunities that may present themselves between the two packs. I made sure to make myself invaluable in this area, as a way to make up for the lack of heirs that I was incapable of producing.

After all, there were many members of this merged pack who originally came from the Thorn Pack where i had grown up. Many people had followed my parents faithfully when i was only a child, and now they had placed their trust in me I was determined to live up to their expectations. I wanted to bring them a better quality of life and it was for this reason, that I kept on going.

Among the many packs that had attended my birthday banquet today, the Silvercrest Pack was undoubtedly one of the best. What made them even more attractive as partners was that they were a powerful Lycan pack, not just another werewolf pack. The were quite possibly the strongest alliance members that we could hope to work with.

According to one of my workers, Mercy, Ryder One was the single most profitable Real Estate project that the Silvercrest was pumping all of it's talent into. It was a contract that many packs were vying to compete for.

Ryder One was currently in the open bidding stage, and as design was my forte, I wanted to try to at least bid against other contractors. Countless times the Blackclaw Pack had won lucrative commercial contracts with other packs because of my unique presentation and design skills.

Mason had asked me to complete an acceptable design within a week and had asked my Beta Daisy to assist me, but judging by the empty office, Daisy hadn't come today.

It didn't really surprise me, after all, she was also one of Mason's regular lovers, and the one who had been by his side the longest. She had never seen me as her Luna, taking great delight in mocking me at every opportunity, and trying to provoke me when that didn't work. To them, only Mason's favour was important as in their eyes, his favor meant increased status in the pack.

So even though Daisy had been assigned as my assistant for this project, she hadn't lifted a finger to help me all week. Instead, one of the Gamma wolves, Mercy, had become my most hardworking assistant

Mercy was a small and petite young woman, and often classed as cute by her packmates. She was incredibly talented in design and had helped a lot with inspiration for this particular draft.

The bidding for the project was in the evening and we were already fifteen minutes past the agreed time. Even though I had waited for a long time, Daisy still didn't show up.

With a sigh, I turned to Mercy and grinned. "Mercy, grab our things, you're coming with me."

"Oh my god really?!" She shrieked in delight.

I looked at Mercy's excited expression and couldn't help but smile warmly at her. "Yes, Really. Come on, let's go. Tonight, you are going to be my gold medal winning assistant."

We gathered up the materials that we needed for the presentation and began to walk through the corridors on our way to the parking lot, but as soon as we turned the corner chatting amiably, my smile froze on my face at the all too familiar gasps of pleasure that were coming from not too far away.

The door to the room we were passing wasn't closed and I could clearly see Mason and Daisy's naked bodies writhing against each other. Thankfully it wasn't occuring in my office but it still soured the mood.

The moon goddess depicted on the mural of the wall next to me seemed to be smiling down at me as the two wolves at her feet snuggled affectionately with each other, the whole image just seemed to make the scene in that office even more ironic.

Mercy gasped and covered her mouth with her hands before looking away quickly., and turning her concern filled gaze towards me.

It was such a coincidence that everytime I gave my all for the benefit of the benefit of the pack, I found my mate burying himself in a different woman each time.
