Chapter 4
ANGEL SINCLAIR.
It is a real punishment of the beast to spend 15 minutes in that car with that idiot Bryan. When we are not quiet, we are pinning each other. It hasn't even been an hour since I met this kid and I'm already fed up with him.
"Here we are," he says, leaving the car in the parking lot of the restaurant.
"Really? If you didn't tell me, I wouldn't even know we're here," I answer, obvious.
"You left your clothes at home?" he asks, looking me up and down.
"Listen here, you idiot, this is my school uniform, and I wasn't going to get ready to receive you, because you don't mean anything to me!".
"Next time, at least take a shower. There's ketchup in here," he says, pointing at my skirt.
Damn Ashley! She spilled sauce on me today while licking herself with her lunch. I didn't even remember that little stain on my skirt anymore. He was very observant to have noticed it.
The two of us made our way to our reserved table. Dad and Madison are already here. I am sitting next to my dad and Bryan is sitting next to his mom. The two of them are facing us. I bring some water to my mouth, as I am already getting dehydrated with how much Bryan is surrounding me with his eyes.
"Angel, honey, tell me more about yourself. Are you a senior?", Madison asks.
"Yes, I am."
"So is Bryan. He can't wait for school to be over," she laughs. Bryan remains serious as do I.
"Angel, on the other hand, loves going to school. She always gets the best grades."
"I wish I could say the same for Bryan. In London, I had to attend school every week. He got kicked out of 5."
"5 schools? My God!" my father says, amazed.
"Mom, you don't have to go into details," he says softly.
"Wow, but five schools is a lot, isn't it? To be honest, Bryan doesn't really look like he's smart, but I had no idea he was that rebellious!", I say and giggle, knowing it will provoke him.
I can even see Bryan's countenance change. He looks like he wants to fly at me and curse every last generation of me. He is seething with hatred, but I am just playing along with him. He started it, so now I'm going to show him how it's played.
"Angeline!" my father whispers, as a way of scolding me.
"Bryan really wasn't an obedient kid. I always had to talk more than 3 times or ground him so he would learn his lesson."
"He doesn't seem to have changed," I comment.
"He has changed a little, yes. He doesn't give me as much trouble as he used to. On the contrary, I'm the one giving him a hard time," Madison and my dad look at each other and laugh. I covertly roll my eyes and Bryan makes a bored face.
"Isn't that food ever going to come?", Bryan asks, "I'm starving."
"Speaking of the food, it just arrived," my father says.
I look back and see the waiter coming with the food cart. He leaves all the food on the table and offers pepper for my plate, but I refuse.
"I love pepper," my father comments, "Angel, on the other hand, has been allergic since she was 5 years old."
"I'm not missing anything. Pepper is horrible!", I say.
"Bryan hates it too, don't you, son?", Madison asks.
"I don't know. It's been quite a while since I've tasted some spicy stuff," the idiot replies, fixing his eyes on me.
I swallow dryly and decide to start dinner, still thinking that that last sentence of his might have a double meaning.
When I get home, the first thing I do is take a warm, relaxing bath. I take my pills and sit down at my desk to study. I lose my focus when I smell a disgusting smell. I get up from the swivel chair and look at the window curtain, seeing a male shadow. It can't be... I go like a hurricane to the window and when I pull back the curtain, I see Bryan smoking on my balcony.
"Is this serious? Not only do I have to put up with you smoking in my room? The smell in here is unbearable, you imbecile! Dad is sure to hear about this”.
"Try telling your father about it and I'll be forced to tell him that his little girl is full of drugs so that she can study like a crazy person. Is that the secret of her good grades? Even I would be smart that way", he laughs and blows smoke. I look at him in disbelief.
"Were you spying on me, you pervert? That's a crime, you know”.
"I didn't see anything, don't worry. I just saw you taking what you shouldn't have. Do you know what side effects these drugs can cause?".
"I know very well, I don't need you to tell me anything”.
"Good thing you know about the risks then. Good night," Bryan speaks, stepping off the balcony.
I pull the curtain and take the opportunity to close the window, because he was only able to spy on me because that damn window was open.
I am shaking with hatred for this kid. I have a card up my sleeve to get him out of this hallway, but he has something on me that will surely not go down well. Daddy will kill me if he finds out that I am taking these drugs to improve my school performance.
I made a big deal out of it, but I would never have thought he could see me through the window. I'm sure that this asshole will use this to blackmail me, but I won't let him, because I also have something compromising on him and I'll try to find out more, that's the only way I'll get the upper hand.
I continue my studies and talk a little with my grandparents before going to sleep. My only grandparents are paternal, because my mother was an orphan. Grandma Florence and Grandpa John are my point of peace amidst all the chaos. I give my life for them.
