Chapter 5
ANGEL SINCLAIR.
I wake up at the same time as usual and do my morning hygiene. I grab another school uniform since yesterday's is so filthy and put on some basic makeup. I go downstairs for coffee in the morning with my backpack in hand and stagger off when I see Bryan dressed in my high school uniform.
"Good morning, Angel," Madison speaks up.
"Honey, join us," my dad says.
"This can only be a bad dream!", I exclaim, closing my eyes and bringing my hand to my forehead in an attempt to remain calm.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling sick?", Dad asks.
"Dad, do you know how many reputable colleges there are in Seattle? Several! Why is this...", I search for a word that isn't heavy as I open my eyes, "kid going to have to study just at my high school?", I ask, looking directly at Dad.
"Angeline, please!" he scolds me, "I passed the list of several colleges to Bryan, but he was more sympathetic to yours, besides, you two will be closer."
"Don't you understand that I don't want to be close to him?", I ask, indignant.
"We are not alone. It is now breakfast time and you should sit down to eat."
"I'm not in the least bit in the mood to start my day by having coffee with you. I'm going to school," I say, fixing my backpack on my back.
Before I can leave the kitchen, I hear Madison's sigh and Bryan's voice saying how nice it will be to have coffee with the two of you. Of course he doesn't think so. He hates my father as much as I hate his mother, but he is playing this whole good boy role to drive me crazy. And what gets me most out of control is that he is succeeding.
I am in front of the school leaning against my car waiting for class to start. Ashley is with me and we wave to some kittens that are passing by. There are some girls around me, as usual. They force a lot of friendship, but I don't wish to have these blood-suckers around me. They are not real friends. Ashley has been with me since the beginning of high school. We have very different lifestyles, because she is on a scholarship and doesn't have that much money, but we both always get along super well.
I come out of my thoughts when I see the girls walking away from me and looking back at us. Hearing the loud music, I take off my glasses just to make sure that it is real what I am seeing.
That asshole Bryan is playing the big shot and he is succeeding because he has caught the eyes of the entire school. He gives me a sideways smile and I growl softly, putting my glasses back on my face. He makes his way to the parking lot and I can already hear the buzz of people.
"Wow, have you seen this cat?", Ashley asks, and by the look on my face, she must have already understood everything, "No kidding! Is that him?" she laughs.
"Yes, Ashley. That's my idiot half-brother."
"Idiot? He's more like a model. I thought he was a cat."
"He's insufferable. I guarantee no girl can stay around him for very long."
"Well, at least I know half the college is into him," she says, watching Bryan leave the parking lot with the captain of the quarterback team, "He's already together with Tyler."
"They're both assholes. They kind of match."
"Pretty sure he's getting invited to the party tonight. Tyler called practically the whole school.
"I'm losing the will to go to that party.
"Angel, you promised me you would go," she says slyly.
"I know, but I can't stand this boy.
"And since when did you give him a taste?" she arches her eyebrow, "If I were you, I'd go all dressed up just to show this blond asshole who's boss," she laughs and we both chime in.
"That's it Ashley! He can't wait."
I look at myself in the mirror and smile when I see my black patent leather dress tightly fitted to my body, enhancing my curves. My also black heeled boot falls in a perfect shade. My rhinestone earrings give an even better look to my eyeliner and the red lipstick I am wearing. I put on my best perfume and reach for my cell phone. I take a peek in the hallway before I leave the house and see that Bryan is not around. It is almost certain that he is over at Tyler's house.
I stop by Ashley's house to pick him up. Although it is a poor neighborhood, it is not that far from where I live. The yellow dress she is wearing is super highlighted on her dark skin and her curly hair is tied up in a ponytail.
"What a production!", I say, starting up.
"You look gorgeous!" she compliments me back, "I hope Tyler gives me a ball today. That big black guy is a delight!".
"You're crazy to be with him, aren't you? Even though he's an asshole, I can't deny that he's a hottie."
"He's been my dream ever since I entered that high school.
"Rest assured that today I'm going to fix Tyler up with you myself."
Ashley claps her hands and smiles excitedly.
When we arrive at the party and get out of the car, everyone makes room for the two of us to pass. As I imagined, Bryan is standing next to Tyler. He is holding a glass of booze and seems to be paralyzed. Our gazes are locked for a minute as I walk down the runway with Ashley. The two of them are right in front of us, now even closer.
"Angel, it's a pleasure to have you here!", Tyler smiles.
"Thank you for the invitation, Tyler. If it wasn't for Ashley, I wouldn't have come."
At that moment, Tyler greets Ashley with a hug and a smile. Knowing my friend, I know she is jumping for joy inside. And knowing me, I know this night has promise, especially since Bryan seems to lose control of the situation at the sight of me.
