Chapter 5 The Explosion

With a single burst of force, the cup was thrown and shattered, the glass fragments scattered across the floor. The black liquid spread on the carpet like a menacing hand, gripping the chaotic shards of glass on the ground, tearing apart a shattered world.

"What kind of attitude is this again?!" Richard's anger immediately flared up, causing his voice to grow louder.

"I'm not throwing a tantrum," Nicole's stubbornness was also provoked by him. She stared at him with her big eyes and said slowly, "I just don't want to drink that."

Richard couldn't believe that Nicole, who had always been obedient, would actually argue with him. His intentionally subdued voice became increasingly uncontrollable, almost shouting at her, "You don't want to drink this? Then how can you get pregnant?! How can we have a child?!"

Nicole's eyes widened, immediately filled with tears. The tears flowed uncontrollably and she clenched her fingertips into her palm. Irrationally, she shouted back at him, "Why is it my fault that we can't have a child? It's not necessarily me who has a problem!"

Upon hearing her words, Richard felt like his tail had been stepped on. He threw what he was holding heavily onto the ground and screamed at her like a madman, "What do you mean by that? Are you saying I have a problem? Which eye of yours sees that I have a problem?! What's wrong with me?!"

Nicole was frightened by his appearance and stammered as she tried to explain, "I didn't mean that, I didn't say you have a problem, maybe... maybe it's just bad luck for us..."

"What bad luck? We've been married for five years, not five days!"

Richard was furious, his voice seemed to shake the roof as he pointed at Nicole's nose and scolded, "Don't blame your problems on me, it's you who can't get pregnant, not me!"

Nicole suddenly froze, staring at him with a stunned expression.

For the first time, she felt that the man in front of her was a stranger, a stranger to the point of horror.

The air became thin and oppressive. Unable to bear it any longer, she choked, opened the door, and ran outside.

...

The Hayes family's yacht was not small, but for her, there was no place to take shelter at this moment. Nicole covered her face and ran onto the deck, crouching in a corner, silently sobbing.

She and Richard had known each other since childhood, growing up together like childhood sweethearts. Although Richard was not exceptionally outstanding, he had always been good to her and had never raised his voice at her.

Nicole was attracted to his good temperament, which was why she decided to marry him.

However, after getting married, she discovered that things were completely different from what she had imagined.

He became very busy and gradually became less accommodating to her preferences, even belittling them as "childish" and "child's playthings". Especially in recent years, because of the issue of having a child, he had become increasingly irritable and easily angered.

Tonight, he yelled at her for this.

Nicole couldn't understand what she had done wrong.

The harbor was dark and only the sound of waves hitting the rocks filled the air. Even the distant coastline, dotted with sporadic lights, fell silent. The night breeze made people feel numb, and thoughts were uncontrollable in such a deep night.
