-Naomi-
I would've lunged at her; sinking my fangs into her supple pale neck from this distance would have been a breeze for me years ago. But I seriously do not remember the last time I had shifted, and my body felt groggy from the bullet wound that had torn through my left shoulder and injured my blouse. My reaction time was too slow, and the best I could manage was a cough of blood and a chalky groan from the dull pain. The girl's glass eyes moved from my wound to my expression and back, while I glared at her.
She nodded her head in satisfaction."It's confirmed, then. Thank you." she said, leaning back on the leather seats. "I have to say, I'm really glad you're not some kind of imposter, Omega. Although, your wounds don't seem to be healing fast enough for a typical werewolf. Is there some deficiency in your lineage?" she asked.
Of course not. My parents were incredibly strong and powerful enough to vie for the position of Beta in my pack, before my mother decided to let her mate, Dad, have the position. Also, my inner wolf, Adrianna, was a puritanical breed of grey wolf that could supposedly control the weather. A unique and grand ability that the council said comes once in a decade. But of course, nobody knows about that yet. The reason for my inertia was the simple fact that I had been out of practice for a long time.
"How does shooting me confirm anything, you psycho?! And what kind of wolf brandishes a revolver?" I strung my words. The girl pointed at me."That's a secret. And this?" she brought out the silver gun again."There's no law against using these things, is there? Why tear your enemy to shreds when a simple aim and pull can do the job cleaner and faster?" she asked.
"You really think that's enough to kill me?" I sort of dared her. My arm had healed somewhat, and I could move it again. The girl motioned to the guards, and as if they were all part of a hive mind, they all brought out their sidepieces, 22mm pistols ranging from colours black to grey. It was a surreal scene. Was I in the presence of pack security or some sort of underground crime organization?
The girl cleared her throat. The men retracted their guns, and the limo jerked into movement again."I think we understand each other well enough now" she smirked. Of course, I knew the Moonlight pack would not let me, an outsider, wander incessantly during the ceremony. There would be some kind of intelligence placed on me, indistinguishable from my own shadow. But the fact that I would most likely be killed by a well-timed headshot rather than an honest wolf-to-wolf struggle, didn't sit well with me. Why did I come here?
The limo stopped abruptly."We've arrived, Mrs Naomi. Allow me to welcome you, on behalf of our Alpha, to this prosperous union between his son and Vivian Belastrude of the something pack. Please, enjoy your stay at all costs." What was with the stark change in tone? Something was off.
One of the men opened the door for me, and I scampered onto the sidewalk beside where they had parked. I glared at the girl as the doors closed, and the limo sped down the street. In front of me was a drop-down from the sidewalk into a driveway; It stretched a few good yards away from the road to two tall brass gates that protected what seemed to be some kind of garden or sanctuary. "Naomi" said a familiar husky voice.
I turned around, my heart getting palpitations from the anticipation. There he stood. Clad in a casual black outfit from head to toe, asides from his exposed neck and chest equipped with a long lean necklace, he bounded towards me, this man."Vincent" I acknowledged him. I didn't expect to see him so soon, with him being the groom and all.
"What happened to your dress?!" he said, his tone signifying alarm. He raised his eyebrows in anger. I had forgotten about the gunshot wound already, and became incredibly insecure about what I was wearing. One of my bra straps was exposed."It's nothing" I said meekly, but realized how stupid that was to say.
"This is not nothing" he said sternly, his fingers caressing the wound and my bra."You're right. It was your security. They shot me." I responded."What?! Are you being serious? Describe to me who did it? Was it one person? Or a group? I will have all their heads on a platter, delivered to your room this evening." he barked. Steam seemed to come out of his ears, which made me chuckle a little bit.
Very long ago, when I was in training as a young wolf, I would sneak out to see him every once in a while. He had the exact same reactions when he saw my sparring injuries, and threatened to do something about it. Without really thinking of the consequences. Of course, he was overreacting, but seeing him like that made me feel secure, happy and a little turned on.
"It was a small girl. She was in the Limo. Is she a Lieutenant or something?" I asked with interest rather than vengefulness.
Vincent's darkened eyes soon returned to normal. He cocked his head to think about something, and mellowed down a bit; his fangs returning to the normal size." I think you mean Mira. Yes, she's our Omega." he said coolly."Omega? At that age?!" I exclaimed."Is it so shocking? You became Omega around that age as well" he laughed. It was true, I became an Omega around age 17. "That's different. I'm special. And aren't you forgetting the fact that she shot me in the shoulder a little too fast?" I questioned.
He smiled weakly."If Mira shot you in the shoulder, trust me, she had a very good reason to. She's not a fan of violence, and will only go to the extremes if absolutely necessary." he explained."Hmm. How nice to know" I said sardonically."Look, we'll get you a new dress in a couple of hours, of course. Any colour you want, any amount you want. But if you ask me, I am really liking this new look on you" he smirked, obviously referring to my visible undergarments."Pervert" I replied, hoping he wouldn't catch me blushing.
