Nightmare

I kept thinking of what I could say to make Anthony leave my apartment. His presence was starting to annoy me.

"Anthony," I called, and he turned to look at me. "I have something to work on, an important document relating to work, so please, could you take your leave?" I asked, almost pleading.

"Getting rid of me so soon?" He asked with a smile that tightened my stomach.

"Not really, I just really have an important document I must finish tonight," I explained to him, but he just sighed before standing up. We moved towards my door, and I opened it for him to leave, but surprisingly, he remained at my door instead of leaving.

"Aren't you going to leave?" I asked, pissed off and unable to hide my irritation any longer. He stared at me longer than necessary before finally getting out.

I sighed in relief after he left and slammed the door hard behind his back. I moved towards the kitchen next to prepare what I would eat.

'Why don't you eat your mate?' Crazy Beth asked.

'That's foolish,' I replied, scolding her in my head. My thoughts went back to when Carson Grey's manly scent flooded my office. I didn't even know what to do. How could he be my mate? He is not in any way close to the type of mate I pictured. I really wanted my mate to be someone caring, nice, and cool, but Carson is just the opposite of that. I don't know why the moon goddess decided to pair us up. Mee Maw once told me that my mate would be someone just right for me, but I really don't understand how Carson is just right for me. I thought, 'Well, the moon goddess knows what's right for me. Anyways, I really don't want to be rejected, so...'

My subconscious whispered to me as I picked up the jar containing the scent concealer Samara gave to me. I really can't get rejected, not by my mate. I would rather stay with Tony.

Now with my head clouded by thoughts, choosing what to eat was a difficult task. I moved to my fridge and opened it slowly, thinking of what to eat. A leftover apple pie, chips, watermelon, apple juice, chocolate cake, and a few chocolate cookies stared at me. Since I didn't really know what to eat, I picked the cookies and an apple juice and walked straight up to my room with my phone beeping a message from Annette. I opened it, and "Hey Carson's mate" shined on the screen.

"Can you please stop being annoying?" I texted back.

"Whatever, have you found a way to disappear from existence since you've decided to run away from your mate?" Okay, now that's annoying.

"Really?"

"You know you really can't hide from him that long."

"Oh, that's where you are making a mistake because I have found a way to avoid being rejected."

"Really, Beth?"

"Yeah." I was smiling as I imagined Ann's reaction. "Stop being a party pooper and tell me all about it."

"No, baby girl. See you tomorrow. Don't want to be late. Goodnight, sweet." I replied, closing my phone and finishing up my snacks. I lay on my bed and picked up my phone to put a call through to Mee Maw.

"Hey Mee Maw."

"Hey, my darling Beth."

"So, how are you doing without me?" I asked, making a face.

"Oh, I'm doing well, darling. Jeffrey is the best," her voice sounding like a teenager in love.

"Wow, so you really are doing much better without me, right?"

"No, darling, I miss you, but Jeffrey said it's okay if I want to have breakfast with you tomorrow."

"Oh, really," I exclaimed, feeling happy.

"Oh, someone's happy. So how was your day?"

"Extremely frustrating."

"That doesn't sound good."

"Yeah, right. Well, how was your day?"

"It was fun. Jeff took me out shopping and also introduced me to his friends."

"Whoa, that's cool. Well, Mee Maw, you won't believe who came running back today?"

"What...who?" she asked, excitement screaming in her voice.

"Tony came back seeking to mend things."

"Whoa, and what did you do?"

"Well, I told him to stop being annoying and agreed to be friends with him, not that I really meant it, though. Then, I dismissed him with an excuse."

"Now that's my baby girl," she said, a smile evident in her voice. That's Mee Maw for you; she supports me even if I'm wrong and then corrects me later. She is always proud of me no matter what. 'Tell her about your mate,' Crazy Beth whispered.

"Um, Mee Maw."

"Yes, darling?"

"I think I have found my mate," I replied hesitantly.

"Oooh!" she exclaimed. "That's good news."

"Hmm, but I don't think I'm ready to face him," I said, pouting.

"What, darling? You have been waiting since forever. Why aren't you sure now?"

"Well, Mee Maw, he is just not the type of mate I have been expecting."

"No, dear. Did your wolf claim him?" Mee Maw asked, worry obvious in her once cheerful voice.

"Yes, but I think there is a mix-up somewhere."

"You have to sleep on it, dear. I think your head isn't thinking straight. See you tomorrow, darling. We would talk then, okay?"

"Yes, Mee Maw. Goodnight. See you tomorrow." The phone slipped off my hands as Mee Maw cut the line. Really, I think this is getting scarier. I really don't want to be rejected, I thought as my eyelids closed, and sleep took over my senses.

"Hey Carson, you know what? I am your mate," I said, smiling like a fool.

"And what makes you think I would accept you?" he asked with a smirk.

"Well, I'm beautiful, and you know I'm caring, so..." I replied, my smile making me look more like a fool.

"Well, I'm sorry to burst your bubble of dreams, but I can't be with someone as filthy as you. Do you really think you can stand as my wife?" he asked, as tears flooded my eyes.

"No, Carson, you really can't deny me as your mate," I said as tears flowed freely from my eyes.

"Oh, I'm sorry," he said, smiling devilishly.

"No, please," I continued to cry so hard I felt like crying to death as he walked past me with no care in the world.
