Chapter 2
Kelvin's POV
I yawned and stretched my self on my bed. It was morning already. I looked at my clock 8:00. It seemed I wasn't going to go to work today. I was just about to arrive at a conclusion when I heard my dad yell, "Kelvin!!"
"This man" I cursed under my breath. I quickly went out to answer him. "Dad".
" why aren't you out of this house yet? I handed over the business to you and you want to let it crumble? Is this how you will manage it? Ehhhe? I wanted to argue but I knew better. "I'll go get set dad." I heard him ask the maids to arrange breakfast for me quickly. I walked up the stairs to have my bath. I sighed again and picked up my towel. The company had vacancies and I was sure I would spend half of the day going through applications. I wondered why dad had me carry out such trivial tasks when it could easily by handled by somelse.
Camilla's POV
I straightened my cloth and looked in the mirror. I needed to look presentable and cooperate. I read the application letter again. It was addressed to Frostbite company. Lisa had written it and dropped by that morning to hand it over to me. She asked me to go and try my luck. My kind of friends. I was certain I was among the few that had the best friends in the world. Kelvin was adapting quickly in his new home to my greatest glee. He would have to stay with his grand parents today. His mum has to look for a job. I found him with dad in the sitting room. I bade both goodbye and set out.
I was standing in front of frost bite Enterprise. It was really a big company. I took a deep breath and walked in. The receptionist was a young girl with a pretty face. She greeted me politely and that calmed my nerves. I told her what I was there for and she directed me to the second floor. I took the elevator and soon got there. I walked up to a lady and told her what I came for. Before she could reply, the elevator opened and a man walked in. He seemed really powerful as he carried this aura and air of power wherever he went. I felt his imposing presence. My feet gave way and I could feel them shaking. "Good morning sir". The lady greeted. He only nodded in response. He looked at me and said, " another application? " "Yes...sir...G..Good ...morning sir". I stammered. He looked at me for a while and said " give me"
"Sir?" It was the receptionist. "I will gather it with the others and bring it to you Sir". He ignored her and looked at me again. I gave him the file with trembling hands. He looked at me again and walked away. It was then I could breath. Gosh. The man has such a powerful aura. How scared I was. " Is there any problem?" I asked the receptionist. She smiled and tried to reassure me" not at all. You may leave. You will hear from us." I smiled and walked towards the elevator. I hoped for the best.
Back on my bed at home, I was on my phone when Michael and Lisa called. They both wanted to know how my day was. I narrated the incident to them. "I was really scared. He has an imposing presence. But his face seemed familiar. I was too scared that I couldn't even look at him" I finished. Michael laughed. It was very normal for him to laugh even in serious situations. "It's just how it is. He's probably the CEO or something. They always have that imposing aura especially the one's from big companies". Michael was a manager in one of the leading companies in the area. I believed he knew best. " But how come he took my application? ". I couldn't hlep but wonder. " I even heard the receptionist say she will bring it alongside others to his office later. Is it possible that he is the one in charge of applications? " "Maybe. It depends on how it is run. I guess you are lucky he took yours. He may go through it before others and you are likely to stand a chance. Just prepare for an interview" it was Lisa who answered me this time. Three of us talked more on a lot of other things and the call was ended. After talking with my friends, I felt better and hoped for the best.
Kelvin's POV
I walked out of the elevator and met a young lady at the reception. My presence really frightened her. I smiled inwardly. I was used to that. Perhaps, she came to submit her application. She looked familiar but I could not recall where I had seen her. I took her application and went off to my office on the third floor. I sat down and opened the file. Her name is "Camilla Xanders" . She was applying for the position of a secretary. The human resource department manager needed a secretary. I read through her CV but she wasn't too qualified.Only experience was lacking. I put her file aside. I thought hard. Where had I … Then it clicked. 'Little Kelvin'. She was the girl with him. Maybe his sister. My mind kept telling me that I had seen her somewhere else. I was distracted by a knock on the door. "Come in". My secretary walked in carry some files. " This is the application for the post of a secretary while this is for the post of a clerk"she said as she indicated the two different files she was holding. "Keep it there" I muttered. She did so and left. My heart sank. Going through those files will take a whole day and I was expected to select a candidate today. "Camilla Xanders". I turned and picked up her file. I will just give her the job. She will possibly do well. She has the qualifications but not experience. She will learn. I called my secretary and asked her to do the necessary things and invite Camilla for an interview.
Camilla's POV
I woke up as soon as my alarm went off. I was finally employed. That same yesterday, I received a call from Frostbite company for an interview. I can't even them how the intercooler went. I was so nervous. I only got myself when I was told that I had the job. I was to resume the following day. And that day is today. I dressed in my best cooperate atire and got to work.
My boss gave me a few instructions and asked me to get set for a meeting with the CEO at 10am. Fifteen minutes to the time, we went to the meeting hall. Everyone was talking quietly and soon, a hush fell over the hall. I turned towards the door and saw him walk in. It was the man that had taken my application. The enigmatic, powerful man with an imposing presence. We all stood up when he walked in. That gave me the chance to look at him thoroughly. I gasped. No!. It can't be. He glanced around the hall and his gaze lingered on me. I was certain every hair on my body was standing. The CEO was the father of my baby. He was the man I had a one night stand with three years ago. When he sat down, he looked at me again. I was feeling uneasy. I barely heard anything during the meeting. Soon, the meeting was over. Everyone filed out of the hall. He was still seated. He had given them permission to leave. I was about to leave too when I heard him say, "wait".
