Chapter III

After waking up I tried to piece together the lost memories of this child, but no matter how hard I reached I couldn't see anything. Its been 2 weeks since my eyes opened and came into this life, and there hasn't been an attack on me yet. Knowing a large energy burst can draw high level demons to the area I've slowly been feeding this body energy to rebuild the muscles and nerves that haven't been used or deteriorated. By doing this I can now move around freely with out having to hold the wall to walk.

Kimi has been a constant figure in this house as well. It's driving me crazy because she constantly tries to feed me or tries to had me pills that she says are supplements. I don't buy it and just tell her that those pills make me sick. "If you don't take the pills you'll never get better," Kimi said after I had ran to the bathroom puking the food i had before she got here up along with the pills. "I'm sorry I just can't seem to get them down." I said sitting on the couch trying to get my head straight.

"I'll have to give you shots if you can't keep anything down. I know you are starting to feel better, but you don't want to over do it," Kimi would say trying to convince me to take the pills again. "Look Kimi I've been doing my own research on the internet and ordered some natural supplements to try and help. I borrowed your card I hope you don't mind," I said to her.

For a minute there she looked pissed, but covered it by trying to look disappointed, "If that's what you want to try, I can't stop you. And if you wanted to order something, why didn't you ask for my help? I'm here all the time." She seemed frustrated that I wasn't doing things her way, but I'm 25 years old and have a right to choose how to take care of my body. She must think I'm slow or stupid, so I ask for her help.

Not wanting to argue with this woman I said, " Sorry cuz, I'm just trying to figure out what's been going one while I was comatose. Reading up on everything has been a bit of an overload and it didn't seem like a big deal to use your card. You and your mom are still getting a monthly stipend to take care of me right?" She stiffened but nodded yes. "Well, just ask for reimbursement if I took too much. I tried to be conservative." She didn't seem happy that I was trying to do thing for myself, and that kinda hurt. "I know I seem like I'm being stubborn, but I don't want to be a burden to you and auntie anymore. So I'm gonna work hard and get better that way you can have your lives back," I said smiling at her. Kimi' looked shocked, then smiled at me, "Sounds like you have a positive outlook for yourself. Have you given any thought to what you wanna do with your life?"

It had occurred to me that she would ask this question and I said, "You know, with all the new fields of work, trying for a different style science degree or profession looked appealing. Maybe looking into what my parents used to research might be something I do. I'm still mulling it over though."

"Wow that'll be alot of work. Do you think you can handle it? You'll at least need a high school diploma to get started. Have you checked out the online schools? They are very good and have plenty of extra curricular activities for your college app to look good," Kimi said grabbing the laptop she brought and showing me the different schools, "You'll have to take a compass test to see where you rate as far as grade wise. You were in 3rd grade when you went into the coma. Take some time to study before going to take the compass test for any school that way you don't feel like your behind."

The way she said everything was as if I hadn't considered any of this. While the human in me was a child, I however, was not and knew I would need certain things to be considered credible. With a higher IQ than the woman standing infront of me I looked at the schools and said, "I'm not too worried about the compass tests. I took a couple practice tests to test my skills and I already test out of high school so I was going to go to the school board and ask for a high school equivalency diploma and take there test. I would bring the statistic of this area up as far as kids graduating high school. Honeydew High is smaller than it looks, but because of that no one pays attention to the population rating on the area. So graduating from here not only helps me it helps everyone else too."

I took the wind out of her with that and she just nodded and collected her things to leave. "Well, it seems like you have things well in hand. I've had a credit card and and your account information mailed to you. I had to go to the firm that handles your inheritance trust to have them send your account information and debit card here. They said you had called already and had the same things requested so they expedited it because I verified that you were awake. I'm glad your being proactive with your recovery Laura, but don't move to fast or mom might be alerted. I asked them not to inform mom of this and they said they didn't need to say anything to her seeing as it was for the original inheritor. So your all set now if you need anything let me know. I'll see you in a couple days," Kimi said hugging me and walking out the door.

I was surprised to hear she helped expedited my documents for me. She never seemed to want to help me, but she doesn't stop me or get mad about it either. Either way I had what I needed to start my new life and with this new freedom I have I plan to set this place up as a safe have for myself to be safe.

Laura was not the idiot I thought she was and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it, but make sure everything I had couldn't be taken. Mom was on her own because she decided to deal with Laura the way she did and I'm not going to be dragged down by her. While there may be some part of me that loves my mother, it was small compared to how hard she has always leaned on me to make her life easier. If it hadn't been for me, she never would have kept Laura alive as long as she has.

This sudden awakening is frying my brain and I need a drink. Heading to the nearest bar in this small town, I parked outside the biker bar at the end of main street. It wasn't anything too fancy, but with the heading spinning last 2 weeks I've had, this place with alcohol looked good. The bartender was hot and asked in a country accent what I'd have. Blushing, I said whiskey and coke. Handing me my drink, he smiled and went back to handle his other patrons while turning in my seat. There were a couple of people here on a Thursday night, but it was still early.

Some biker club ran this place and it was always packed with different clubs from the area. The band was always the best and could work a crowd for hours. Having been to a couple of their concerts, it was worth the pushing and shoving. I finished my drink and asked for a menu and was handed one by the waitress walking around. It was a basic bar menu, so I ordered hot wings and a salad with a micro beer.

It felt kind spooky sitting at the bar, I went out to the covered patio area and sat at one of the two-person tables waiting for my food. I don't have to wait long thankfully, because the waitress is right behind me who also happens to be and old friend of Laura's. Her and Laura would hangout when they didn't want to play. "Hey Charlotte, it been a while. How have you been?" I asked. She saw who I was and smiled, "Hey Kimi, I've been doing great, I've got a good job, and my son is well cared for, so I can work. How have you been? I know you've been taking care of Laura all these years. How is she? Any change?" she asked setting the food down than sitting across from me.

"I'm doing good myself. Believe it or not Laura has woken up. I found her trying to walk around the house 2 weeks ago when I had to cover for her nurse. She didn't know who I was but that is expected she's been out for 17 years," I said seeing the shocked look on her face. "She's awake? Wow, it always seemed like she was getting worse any time I talked to your mom. I still do a column for the local paper, so I get to go to her events every now and then, but she always makes her condition as if any day she would go," Charlotte said looking sad. Not wanting to continue with the conversation I said, "I'm sure she would love to see you. She is still in the old house and could use a friend right now."

She smiled, then frowned and said,"You don't think she'll mind? She didn't recognize you. How would she know me?" "Don't worry she was quick to realize who I was. I'm sure she will definitely remember you, your her best friend," I said starting in on my salad she picks up on the hints and says, "Okay I'll go see her soon."
