Chapter VII
Chapter VII
After Jasper left I did need time to figure out what all these feeling meant and how to handle them. I've loved and lost in the past, but this was different. It felt like if he were to be gone forever like I would die with him. He brings light and hope to my very dark existence and all I knew was that I wanted to find out if he was who I think he is. I was told a long time ago that I would never have a soulmate because I have a complete soul. It was disheartening to hear, but I learned to accept it. Some tried to fool me while others outright rejected me. It was hard figuring out what they first told me was true.
I still had lovers, significant others and people I fell in love with I could feel those emotions. Its just Jasper brings parts of me alive that I thought were long dead. Lifetime after lifetime I took my punishment already reserved in the idea that I was a whole soul. But the human soul in me isn't dead this time. She became apart of me when I came to her body........What if they took part of my soul out so the human soul could be absorbed by me?
The thoughts have been racing in my mind for 2 weeks since he left. We still text and he calls late at night to talk some times waking me up. I didn't mind I always wanted to hear from him plus he says I have a sexy bedroom voice every time her calls me when I'm asleep. The way Jasper speaks to me reminds me that I am a beautiful person especially when I'm getting down on myself. Sometimes it feels like he is holding me close and my worries slip away for a time. Peace. Peaceful is how I feel with him.
I had fixed up my house trying to keep myself busy and productive. I was researching schools to attend when I felt that my cousin was on the other side of the door. I was real grateful to her because she had yet to tell her mom that I was awake. I gave me time to reorient myself with everything around me. Aunt Mimi always seem to stress me out and I just didn't want to deal with her. My new inheritance lawyer has been getting all record on what has been happening fr the last 17 years while I was asleep.
I got the feeling aunt Mimi did more than I want to know about so I made sure the lawyer only told me the major details.
Letting Kimi in giving her a side hug she walked to the living room and sat down on the couch peaking at my computer screen. “Looking at Universities to attend? Cali has some of the best and there are quite a few that do online schooling too. Which one where you thinking?” she asked when I brought in a snack try with some lemonade. She grabbed a cup and one of the snacks when I sat down next to her saying, “I'm still considering the University of Sacramento, but I'm checking my options with Ivy league as well. Mom went to Harvard and Dad went to Columbia University. I'm sure if I spoke with some of there old colleagues they would help me get in.”
Kimi nodded saying, “Probably, I'm sure they would be so happy to hear that you are awake and just as much a genius as her parents were. Definitely look into it. I seen the Ducati outside is it yours?”
Smiling at the bike through the bay window I said, “Yeah, I remember when I was young I always like the look of the bike. I'm not dangerous on it I keep the speed limit. Still getting all my strength back.”
She laughed saying, “I kind of remember you saying you wanted a motorcycle when we were kids, but I didn't think you go for it this soon. Your looking better, but I can still see you need to heal more.” Kimi brushed my arm in a caring way and I smiled at her, “ I know I've been taking it easy the last few weeks. I've had everything delivered and as you can see I've been refurbishing the house.”
She got up and walked around while I explained, “ I put in added security and replaced all the windows. Most where out of date. Each room is refurnished and made into a different work area for me. Careful with that locked door there that's to my labs and yes I mad sure to follow code. I just woke up and plus I'm not doing and things dangerous. God, you know your face changed expressions 6 times in 3 minutes?”
The shocked look on her face was hilarious and than she started laughing. I joined her when she walked up to me saying, “I didn't realize my face was so easy to read. Most people have a hard time reading me.” Patting her on the shoulder I said, “Don't worry about it we all have our quarks.” Walking back to the living room we talked about whats been going on with each other. I guess she runs her own company now, La Blanche, its a cosmetics company she bought and turned around. I was happy for her at least I knew she wasn't stealing from me just Aunt Mimi.
I was starting to feel comfortable around her too. Another knock at my door let me know that Charlotte had stopped by for the dinner I invited her to this last week. “I'll head out I've got a date in a couple hours never can start to early,” Kimi said hugging me and waving at Charlotte. Charlotte nodded while I let her out the door. Charlotte went into the kitchen to check on the food and when I walked in she was smiling smelling a pot simmering on the stove.
“You trying to remind me of my homeland aren't you? I have yet to see it but I hope to one day take my son there at least once,” Charlotte said stirring the Egusi soup. I wanted to do something nice for her and I thought this would bring good memories. Her parents immigrated from Nigeria 20 years ago to save there daughter from being taken. They knew if they came to America they had a chance which was better than where they were.
She seen I had the Beef Suya ready and asked “Are you grilling this?” “Yes I have the patio setup out back for us. I was going to put everything in the serving dishes and take them out side. Kimi stopped by to make sure I was doing okay. She's been supportive thankfully and Aunt Mimi still don't know I am awake,” I said taking the soup and pouring it into a serving dish while Charlotte picked up the beef Suya, Jollof Rice, and Dodo fries out to the table. It amazed me the she could balance a big plate on her head and still carry more. Shaking it off I grab the soup and follow her out setting it down in the middle of the table. We both took our seats serving ourselves enjoying eachothers compnay.
“I'm kinda curious how you met Jasper?” I ask as I bite into my rice. She was sipping her water than said, “I've worked at the Tavern for 2-3 years now. They needed a good head waitress and I was in the middle of college and my son was just a baby. I explained what my situation was to the boss and I got the job and a daycare where Arlo can go to while I'm at work. The club looks out for everyone they know so I've seen hi a time or two, but no real conversation thought. The guy has always been quite.”
Feeling relieved I smiled and said, “Oh ok I wasn't sure and I didn't want to jump to conclusions so asking is the best and most honest way.” We finished out meal and sat down in fluffy chairs around a faire pit in the yard that I had re-landscaped myself. I had all kinds of flowers and herbs even a couple of fruit trees. I looked like a whimsical fairy garden with the water fall in the corner glowing from the lights around it. It was a very peaceful feeling, mist floated over the grass from the hot springs I took great care to build.
She looked very relaxed, but had a serious look on her face, “ I know you seem to be doing well, but please take your time getting better there really is no rush. I've always known you were smart and bright, but you avoid conflict. Just breath okay? I am worried about you my friend.” “Your right and I will take it easy. Maybe go on a vacation or something I haven't traveled yet and always wanted to. I'll let you know what I do. Thanks for caring about me,” I said giving her a hug. She always felt like the right person t talk to. It was getting late so she helped me clean up and got ready to leave.
Back in town be over in an hour. Said the text I got from Jasper as Charlotte left.
Okay. I'll be out back in my fluffy chair. I text back heading to my room to clean up for bed and change into a nightgown. I picked a soft baby blue gown that flowed to the ground and was lightweight on me. Finishing up my nightly routine I slip into my dress and head outback. The night was beautiful and I hadn't gotten the chance to really admire it enough yet.
