Chapter 5
Kai's POV
What is happening? I ask as I feel myself being pulled somewhere. A light spread around me and I was now staring at a waterfall I was all to familiar with. It was behind the mansion in the forest towards the mountains. I see myself sitting on the rocks near the shores edge. I came here sometimes because I felt connected to this place.
I remember this, I think seeing the memory begin to play out.
Behind me, I see green eyes looking at me that belonged to a wolf on the treeline one I had never seen before. His aura seemed familiar, but I could place where I knew it from. Than like strings attaching to something I felt my body being pulled towards the wolf, and stood up ready to walk over to him. Every cell in my body, every fiber of my being was pulling to this one wolf and I couldn't stop myself. With beautiful black and blue fur a coloration I haven't seen before, but no less brilliant shimmered in the moonlight. Eyes as green as emeralds pierced my soul it seemed as he stared at me.
As I move to walk towards him he steps back turns and runs off. I take two steps towards the wolf then felt myself start to shake and fall to my knees from an over whelming feeling that he was someone important to me like I needed him. He felt like someone who was to protect me, but I had no idea who this person was. How could I expect him to accept a cast off with no real family like me. I sat there and wept for I knew no one would accept me. I wasn't a wolf, but I wasn't really human either and that scared people.
I stare up at the moon wishing I this pain would go away. My visions begins to blur and my body jolts bringing me back to my body. My eyes flutter and I'm in Will's arms sitting on a couch in the living space.
"Are you alright? You fainted so I brought you into the living room so no one would give you a hard time," Will says brushing is hand along my cheek.
It couldn't be..... I think looking him over. He's always looked the way he does apart from the hair. I just assumed he dyed it, but now thinking about it. I sit up some to gain my bearings and stare into his eyes.
"Yes......I think I'm alright. You may have been right about eating enough for lunch," I said on que my stomach growls.
He chuckles and helps me to my feet. I still feel a little wobbly and lean into him more than I meant to. He smells like the night air after a fresh rain, I thought to myself as a straighten and take his arm for support.
"Hey now don't go fainting on me again," he says steering us back to the dining room.
Everyone looks at us as we walk in. Mom leans from her chair and asks "Is everything alright? You two were gone for a bit."
"Yes mom Kai wasn't feeling very well so we sat in the living room. Apparently I'm a better judge of dietary needs than this lady right here," Will jokes with me while leading me back to my seat.
Everyone chuckles with Will who I thought might be more understanding on the subject. Over dessert I look over at Aaron and see how attentive he is to Lysa. He seems genuine and kind towards Lysa so maybe things worked out for the better for her. Looking over at Will he is looking at the couple making his own assessment. "Kai, when we finish with dessert come with me to my office I have something I needed to speak with you about," Jakob says to me to which I nod in understanding.
After everyone finished he motions to follow him to his office. We entered his office and I notice a wood box on his desk. It is very old with an ornamental scene with no key hole, and there were latches on each corner. On the top of the box was a wolf looking up at the moon, howling. I could almost hear the howl before father spoke, "This is the reason I wanted to speak with you. Your 35th birthday is in 2 weeks and it seemed appropriate to give this to you now. This was with you when we found you in the forest. You were sitting on it, does it look familiar to you?" he gestures towards the box looking at me intently. It seemed familiar to me, but I couldn't place how I knew it. I ran my hands over the top feeling the scene carved into the wood. I jerked my hand back swearing the wolf moved under it.
"It seems familiar, but no I haven't seen it. I didn't even know I was sitting on it I wonder why?," I say picking the box up. I wasn't too heavy so handling it wasn't hard. "Hmm....Well I thought it might of reacted to your touch, but it seems not. If it opens for you I would like to see what's inside. I have been rather curious as to what's inside," he said in his stoic voice leaning back in his chair. "Well if I find a way to open it I'll make sure to show you," I said smiling serenely at him. "Don't think I kept this from you because your irresponsible. I just didn't want to bring up any bad memories," Jakob said not quite looking at me. I nod accepting his answer and stand to leave.
We walk out of his office back to the living room. I walk over and sit next to Will on the couch. "What's that you have there? Is that what dad wanted to give you?" He asks looking at the box in my lap. "Yeah apparently it was with me when they found me. I guess I was sitting in it. I don't even remember it, strange," I say running my hand over the scene again. "Really? Wow I didn't know dad had that. It's a good starting point if you wanted to find out about your past," Will says reassuringly to me. Phillipe walks over to examine the box as well. "Yes that's some intricate work done on the edges, I wonder what the symbols mean," he asks leaning in to get a better look.
"Yeah I hope it can help me find some answers," I said looking up at Will. That same intense look is on his face again and I'm about to ask him about it when Lysa and Aaron walk over to sit on the adjacent couch to us. "What was that?! Is that what dad wanted to talk to you about? It looks old," she says touching the corner latch. A zap flipped off her hand causing Lysa to yelp. "Ouch! It shocked me!" She squeals pulling her hand close to her rubbing the spot that was shocked. "I better take this home then so no one else can s shocked. I'm so sorry it shocked you. Maybe when I open it if I can it won't do that again. Aaron it was nice to meet you," I said getting to my feet the box still in my arms.
"I'll take you home I brought you here," Will says standing as well ushering to the doors. "Don't let your sister get to you she's just dramatic. It's probably no more than a small burn, she'll be fine," Celeste say reluctantly to me. She leans to kiss Will on the cheek and says her farewells to him. We head to the door to get my wrap and his coat. I hand him the box without thinking, but nothing happened. Shaking my head I put my wrap around myself then take the box from Will and we head down the stairs to his car.
"Well that was a strange dinner. We don't have many of those," I said trying to lighten the mood. "Yes most definitely strange indeed let's hope it's the last one for a while," he says eyeing me as he helps me into his car. He reached for my hand again and gave it a reassuring squeeze. The feeling I had from earlier returns and my body is all too aware of Will again, as if it's a mind of its own. We get to my shop and sit for a few mins in silence before I move to get out of the car. "Since you'll be back home soon maybe now we can spend more time together," I said looking over at him. "Yes I hope for that as well."
I walking up to my door reaching to unlock it I turned to say goodbye when Will leans over and kisses me. Fireworks exploded upon contact and I just leaned in and let my brain melt away. However the rational part of my brain taking over pulling away. "Ok now I'm a sensible person and I know I'm not supposed to be kissing my brother. Even if your not blood related I shouldn't be doing this," I said hastily unlocking my door.
"Wait!" he shouts, "Please I know everything's been confusing tonight and my actions haven't been very helpful, but I couldn't wait anymore. Please don't run," Will says as pulls me into him, forcing me to look at him in the eyes, stopping me from running into my apartment. His strong scent triggered something in me that I hadn't felt since THAT night several years ago. His eyes look like the wolfs' eyes I saw, making me realize who he is. Why? Why did he run? If it was him..... I.. I ask myself wondering if the wolf I saw and the man in front of me where the same person.
