Chapter 1

The roar of the approaching train slowly shocked me awake. When I opened my eyes, I winced because I had a strong discomfort in my back because I was resting on the train floor. I imagined the train was transporting empty boxes that would be delivered to the town's capital.

I shot a peek towards Emelyn, who I was positive was to blame for why I was lying on the floor. Even though she was immersed in her laptop, I knew she was aware of my attention. It's a good thing she's there. She most likely threatened her husband once more in order to flee her own home.

"Be grateful that I found you, or you might have died in the cold in that forest," she remarked, as if what she did had been a tremendous assistance, so I sneered and sat down next to her, peering at what she was doing on her laptop.

She was patrolling the Green Moon Pack's boundary, which is governed by the Alpha King. We are members of this pack under his command.

"You mean I could have died of the cold?" Are you insane? "We are the wolves!" I responded. She did nothing but chuckle and flick her hair to the left.

"What are you doing there, by the way?" Fortunately, your tracking gadget is operational, and I quickly located you."

I was relieved to hear she was concerned about me. After all, the two could no longer participate in the field because they had married their fated companions. Stella is an informant and planner, while Emelyn is a computer whiz and the pack's protector.

"I accepted it," I murmured sheepishly, prompting her eyes to expand. Her expression was a mix of relief and apprehension.

“Really?” It was almost hushed. It was as if she was attempting to limit but was anticipating my reaction.

I gave her a sour expression. When I looked out the window, I observed the sun was beginning to rise. I must have slept for an extended period of time.

"Ruby asked for my assistance, and I'm sick of Phoenix as well." I was often subjected to his harshness. I gave him the opportunity to reconsider, but he chose power over me. He made his decision, and I have no say in the matter."

In an attempt to ignore the conflicting emotions running through my cell, I gasped.

"It's time for you to move on, Chan."

I agreed with her and nodded. "Over the years, I had feelings for him. And now I've made the decision to let him go. It's time to move on from him."

"The Moon Goddess has something planned for you."

I rolled my eyes and shook my head defiantly. "No, please." She might buy it for a bad reason."

She broke out laughing as her eyes became larger, and she covered her mouth as soon as she realized we were inside the train, which was forbidden.

She's dirt inexpensive. She didn't even hail a taxi!

The Royal Council Court of the Green Moon Pack. The sign above the enormous structure I was going to enter caught my attention.

Before walking inside, I inspected the entire area. First and foremost, constantly glance around you. You never know who is monitoring you and planning your next move, especially in my situation. I must be careful not to get handcuffed, since if I am, I will be unable to protect the Alpha King adequately.

Protectors, such as myself, have had training since we were children. Our parents entrusted us with this responsibility. It was handed down to subsequent generations. In order to assure their protection, the Council also chooses people who can hide from the Alpha King and Royal family's strong senses.

When I saw General Largus in the corridor, I bowed. He kept a half-smile on his face.

"How's life treating you so far, Chandra?"

"Everything's fine, I guess, General," I said politely.

He's been with me since the beginning. To me, he's like a father figure. I have a lot of faith in him since he possesses everything. Kindness, talent, and wisdom.

His giggle was triggered by my reaction. He shook his head and messed up my hair, which I jerked away from him. I scowled since he does it all the time.

My hair is difficult to style!

"As was anticipated of you, Chandra, your reaction was constant. I'll be the first to leave because I have a lot of work to accomplish. "I'll see you around," he added as he waved farewell and walked away.

I went to Ma'am Macy's office after we talked. She is the commander who issues commands to us. I knocked on the door and found her reading a book before entering.

Isn't she dizzy from constantly reading calculus or an encyclopedia?

"Sit down, Chandra," she murmured, taking her spectacles off before facing me.

Commander Macy is half werewolf and half witch, much like me. The main difference is that she received the power to heal from her dwarf grandma. She's a half-werewolf, a witch, and a healer. Dwarfs are healers because they are the only ones that have the ability to heal.

"I summoned you here because the Alpha King's birthday is quickly approaching."

I pinched my lips together and listened to what she had to say. I was informed that his birthday is approaching. Who wouldn't want to? For almost a year, everyone has been celebrating his birthday.

“And?” I inquired.

"According to my sources, Stella also confirmed just this morning that rouges will be gate-crashing on Saturday," she added. "I'd like you to be nearby. We know he can defend himself, but we must use greater caution. You're probably aware of what will happen if something goes wrong with him."

I immediately realized what she was saying. If those people are successful in killing the Alpha King, there would be chaos and no one will be able to stop it. The pack members will be out of order, and they may end up killing each other.

I stood up and nodded to her. "I'm leaving," I replied, and she simply nodded, resuming her focus to her book.

I was ready to leave the office when she interrupted me, prompting me to freeze.

"Also, the Alpha will select his mate this coming Saturday..."

I turned to face her in surprise as she uttered it.

Finally, the Alpha King will select his mate?!

“Really?!” I inquired, surprised.

Despite the fact that it was nothing out of the norm, I was taken aback. But it could have been because we were discussing the Alpha King, who isn't your typical person. In all my years of serving him, this is the first time I've heard that he'll choose his mate.

She smiled at my stunned expression before nodding. "At first, I had the same reaction, but yes! Finally, we'll have a queen in our pack!"

I nodded, excited at the possibility of having a queen among us. A Luna is a must-have in any pack. Members would be reassured that they will have an heir, and the pack will be stronger with Luna.

I'm so excited to meet her...
