Chapter 3
My eyes had turned deadly. I focused my senses and dashed towards the field. I bit a rogue who came charging at me. It screamed in agony, but I never gave it the chance to retaliate. I was ruthless and broke its neck.
Then I rushed to the left, colliding with a black wolf on the verge of biting me from behind. The wolf groaned in pain and slumped and died after a few moments of lingering between life and death.
I jumped and stumbled in the air to evade the tornado of metal arrows. I noticed rouges in human shape aiming at us. Rouges are werewolves that have been booted out of their pack or who have chosen to live in the wild on their own. They have lengthy fur and a foul odor emanating from their body. They can be both good and bad.
I dashed behind a tree and changed my appearance. Before climbing the steep woods and attacking the opponents, I dressed on my leather attire and boots. They attempted to hit me, but my reflexes were quick. I landed with grace and booted one of the rogues to the side. It landed with a thump on the ground.
I strangled another intruder and pushed my razor-sharp claws into its neck. I hit the one in my right and viciously twisted its neck.
When the other Royal Guards arrived, I was soaked with sweat. I'm sure Emelyn has already informed them that we require backup. The number of rogues striking out was unusual for today. They were anxious to kill the King. Not on my watch, not now that I have a special link with him, even though I'm not sure what to do.
With so many things on my thoughts, I was entirely ignorant of a renegade flying at me and stabbing me in the stomach. My mouth widened. My hands were trembling and sweating. The shock was nearly immediate. It took a few minutes for the piercing pain to become apparent. Everything was happening at once, and I could feel hot blood streaming from the wound, like if my heart was trying to pump it out of my body.
Shit! A blade made of metal...
I was filled with venomous rage. Before he could stab me again, I butchered the last one by pulling his head off with a terrible crunch.
“Chandra!”
I winced as I approached Emelyn. Her expression was filled with concern as she examined my flesh wound. The blood was still seeping, and the thick fluid was neither warmer nor colder than my own flesh. The blade was everything but average. It had a negative impact on me.
"I-I'm fine..."
She shook her head, terrified. "I don't believe so, Chan." "That is a poison blade!"
I looked over the weapon he used to stab me. This is nothing new for a fighter like me, who is often put in circumstances like this. But why do I feel so frail? Perhaps that was the poison's effect, but it will mend and fade away quickly since Emelyn will never let me die.
Damn!
Emelyn supported me so I wouldn't fall because the poison had began to affect my body. My breathing got uneven over time, and all I could remember before losing consciousness was that my eyesight became blurry and black.
What a dreadful day!
When I opened my eyes and tried to sit bolt upright, my head whirled with dizziness. I felt a stinging pain in my stomach as I remembered what had happened earlier.
"I hate that blade!" I mumbled a whispered curse, then grimaced as all of my body's anguish returned all at once.
"Unfortunately, the metal blade has a thing for you."
Ruby's snarky phrasing caused me to mentally roll my eyes. When I found myself in an unknown location, I sighed and grimaced.
"Where are we, Ruby?" As I sat up slowly on the enormous bed, I questioned my wolf.
The mattress was wonderful, and the space emanated strength and elegance. The atmosphere was terrifying, as if I were within the Royal Kingdom.
"I'm not sure. "Didn't we just get up?"
I wanted to be irritated by her response, but she has a legitimate point. I was ready to stand up to see where I was when the door cracked open, showing Emelyn's frightened expression as if she had gone wild. She appeared to be a shambles.
She raced over to me as she discovered I was awake, her eyes widening as she checked on me.
"Are you feeling okay?"
My brow furrowed in perplexity. "Why do you appear so concerned?" This isn't the first time a toxic metal blade has pierced me."
She sat on the couch across from me, starring at me. She snatched my arm and rolled her eyes at me.
“Ouch! "What is your issue?" I growled, flashing a murderous stare at her.
"Chandra, by the moon!" I nearly died yesterday because the Alpha King was so enraged!"
My brow furrowed. "Why would he be angry?"
She came to a halt and stared at me, as if I was stupid for asking her a question with an obvious answer. What is it exactly? I couldn't figure out who she was.
She pressed her wide mouth shut. "You're insane!" You didn't tell me you were the mate of the Alpha King!"
That's when everything from the previous night hit me. I closed my eyes and laid back on the bed board, which I regretted because my wound was stinging. I'm very irritated! I would have healed fast if it had been a conventional knife that had wounded me, but it wasn't.
"I have no idea why the Moon Goddess did this, Emelyn." I'm perplexed as well. Because why would she give me another mate out of the blue? Phoenix recently rejected me a couple days ago. Is this typical? Wasn't it only a mating ball yesterday? "How come this is the case?" I inquired.
I was completely perplexed. I have a lot of questions in my head, and answering them all one by one is considerably more difficult than working a dangerous job. I grimaced as she rubbed her brow. She obviously has nothing to say to me because she is equally illiterate.
"Perhaps the Moon Goddess was just waiting for you to accept Phoenix's rejection so she could surprise you."
“Argh! Why, with so many werewolves? Why must it always be him?!" I moaned.
"What's the big deal about having the Alpha King as your mate?" He's more attractive, powerful, and superior to Phoenix. Don't you want to seize this moment to make Phoenix know how much he squandered?"
After some contemplation, I turned to Emelyn. She is correct. With all of the trauma I've been through as a result of Phoenix, perhaps the Moon Goddess wants me to prove my worth.
Will I be content this time?
"But, Chan, please don't use him, okay?"
As she talked, my brow furrowed slightly. Of course, I will not exploit the Alpha King. I couldn't help but stare at her with daggers.
Does she like my friend?
"He's mine..." I confirmed, which made her eyes widen.
“What?! Stop being absurd! I'm married already! And, by the way, don't use him to exact your vengeance. Get to know one another. He is, after all, your second mate." Emelyn touched my shoulder. "I recognize you, Chandra. Because of Phoenix, you've lost trust in the concept of love, but at the very least, try to get to know the Alpha. And, moreover, I'm glad our pack already has a Luna, and it's you."
She then smiled at me. I returned her smile with my eyes elevated. She is priceless. She's almost like a sister to me.
"You are worthy of the throne." Our pack desperately needs a strong queen like you. Because you will always be with him, you will be able to keep a greater eye on him."
"I'm going to beat him." Let's see how tough he is."
My heart was filled with resolve. We both laughed. When the door opened again and the man with blue eyes entered, followed by the Royal Family, the two of us became silent.
"Hello, there, sister-in-law."
The way Princess Diana greeted me made me frown.
It bothers me.
