Enemies

I'll don't look back as I take quick steps, putting a considerable distance between me and Dean. He has a toxic mouth, one that he seems to save for just me.

I hear the roar of an engine behind me, I know it's him so I avoid looking back. There is a loud screeching sound like a car swerved suddenly. I get the feeling that it is headed for me. But I'm on the pedestrian trail!

I look back. There is no time to react as I get knocked off my feet and tossed into the air. I land back on the road like a sack of potatoes.

The back of head smash against the hard surface, so hard that I swear you can pick the pieces of my gray matter all over. If I am not dead this time, you will hear about it in the news.

I don't know for how long I have been out. But I can now feel someone tapping my forehead. I'm still alive, apparently.

I manage to crack my eyes open. Blurred images quickly take shape.

"You really are mad, Walker! Are you sleeping or what?" Tom Greystone, our neighbor, stands looking down at me. My backpack dangles from one of his huge hands.

Tom works in the one and only designer shop located downtown. I didn't think he goes to work this early.

I look around and realise it's just us around. Me,Tom and his car.

I sit up. Surprisingly, I can't feel any pains. Am I really human? I attempt getting on my feel but a sharp pain engulfs my right leg and start to sit back down.

Tom reaches a hand around my back and pulls me up. I stand on one leg and grip his shoulder for support.

"Did you see the car that hit me?" I ask Tom. He looks around as if searching for it.

"You were hit by a car? I didn't see that happen. But I did see a red sports car speeding away before I saw you. It looked classy. You're lucky I didn't run you over" He finally says.

A red sports car? That's Dean's car! Why would he hit me?

"Thank for waking me, how long have I been out?"

"Don't know, like ten minutes maybe. Other than your leg, where else did you get hurt?" He asks. His kind voice is comforting.

"I think it's just my leg." I answer. " Maybe it wasn't that bad." I lie. How can I tell him I'm baffled that I'm still alive after being hit so hard?

"Yeah. Like I said, you were lucky. I'll give you a ride back home." He offers and I almost jump on my one good leg in gratitude. But I can't go back home, I will miss too many lessons. Plus I can't stand my mother for a whole day.

"No, I need to get to school, I'll get treatment there." I say and he just nods.

"Okay, I'll take you." He helps me to his car. Where was this good person all this time?

"You have beautiful eyes!" He says and I almost fall back down in shock. Where did my glasses go?

As if reading my mind, he points back to the spot I had laid. Pieces of broken frames and shattered glass sits on the road. How come my eyes are okay while my glasses are that ruined.

"You can survive a day without them." Tom encourages.

Of course I don't need them to see, I need them to hide. This time, even mother will have to understand.

"Let's get going. You'll be late." Tom Urges. He helps me into the l his car. Once I 'm settled on the passenger seat, he hands me my backpack and rushes to the drivers seat.

There isn't much traffic so Tom drives fast. He keeps glancing at me now and then, probably to see if I'm okay. Where did he buy his this kind personality?

We enter the school parking in no time. Students still loiter the hallways so I guess I did manage to get here early after all. And that monster called Dean will be around, watching me limp on my injured leg because he hit me with his expensive car. Was he hoping to kill me?

Tom helps me out of the car."You"ll need someone to help you to class, I'll call one of the girls for you." He offers.

"No. You've already helped me in ways no one else would. Thank you! I can make it to class on my own, no need to call anyone." I say. I don't want him to find out how friendless I am.

"You're tough! I like you!" He complements with a sweet smile. I nod and smile back. First person to like me, what an achievement!

"See you another time then." He says And find some ice to put on that leg." He adds before entering his car and driving away. Now it just me.

It's too late for me to limp to the principal's office. Plus there is too many stairs involved. I'll have to see her later, she may have forgot about me and my drenched shirt by now anyway.

I limp my way to my first class, wincing in pain with every step. I ignore the glares and confused stares I'm getting because of my exposed eyes.

Tracy and her group of vixens are shooting daggers at me while the rest of the class stare in awe. I keep my gaze down and limp to my seat. This is going to be a long, unbearable day.

My two sisters rush in only seconds before the bell rings. Their faces are riddled with makeup, perhaps to hide the fruits of their morning tussle.

Racheal has a thick layer of pink eye-shadow to cover her black eye and deep red lipstick to hide a tinny cut on her lower lip. Gina has just as much makeup but has added a scarf around her neck and is wearing long sleeves for the first time.

There eyes widen in shock the moment they lay eyes on me. Told you, this is a terrible day!

They both match to my seat, eager to scold me.

"Where the fuck are your glasses? I swear Mom will kill you once she gets to know this!" Gina chides in a low voice while leaning on my desk.

"I got an accident on my way here. Someone hit me with a car but I didn't get hurt bad. My glasses got broken though." I explain hoping by some miracle, they will understand.

"Accident my foot! Mother will know about this and I really hope she kicks your silly ass out of our house." Racheal roars. I have had enough of their ruthlessness, time to play my card.

"You remember your fight this morning? Either leave me and my eyes alone or this whole school you had a chick fight for Dean! I can only imagine the kind of opinion he will have of you after he hears that!" I threaten. They both glare at me but I can already tell I have won this fight.

"You're such a bitch! Didn't know you had it in you!" Says Racheal with a smirk. "You win this time." She says and they both walk away to sit with Tracy's group.

I look back in front and my heart skips a beat. Dean stands at the door, his glare on me. What did I do to this guy to deserve so much hate from him?

He confidently saunters towards my desk, my hands begins to shake and my stomach twists. He halts by my desk, looking down at me with eyes full of discord.

"I must say I'm impressed! No one has ever survived my first hit before. I must have underestimated your strength." He says and I look up at him in confusion. "You're now the toughest of them I have ever seen, kudos! But you better pray, because my next hit won't be as easy to survive!" He adds and I nearly fall off my seat in shock.

He smirks and saunters away to sit with Eric.
