Chapter 3 Don't Regret
"Your ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend!" The landlady couldn't be bothered to explain any further and turned to leave, but William stopped her.
"I'll pay my own rent. You'd better return the money to him," William said with a cold expression, his eyebrows furrowing.
"Someone has already paid your rent for you, so why are you still making a fuss? Do you even have the money to pay the rent yourself?" The landlady became unwilling. William owed her two months' rent, and now that someone finally paid, she couldn't just give it back.
While William and the landlady were arguing loudly, two people came out of the house. One of them was William's ex-girlfriend, Madison, and she was holding the arm of her new boyfriend, Daniel. His sunken eyes and pale complexion made it clear that he was a hedonistic playboy, lost in a life of excess.
They came here to take Madison's luggage and happened to run into the landlady, who came to collect the rent.
"William, stop pretending if you don't have money. Someone paid your rent, yet you don't appreciate it. You don't even have a job right now." Madison rolled her eyes at William, full of contempt for him.
William sneered and took ten thousand dollars from his pocket, throwing it into the landlady's hand. He said calmly, "Consider it as payment for the rent I owe you. I told you, I don't need anyone else to pay my rent."
Ten thousand dollars was nothing to William right now.
As the landlady held the crash, both Madison and Daniel were surprised. Madison's mouth even dropped open in disbelief. She couldn't believe William was so generous, paying ten thousand dollars for two months' rent.
"Do I need to spell out what you should do next?" William reminded coldly.
After carefully counting the ten thousand dollars, the landlady rubbed it with her fingers. Once she confirmed that they were indeed genuine bills, she immediately smiled, "Sir, I know how to do now."
The landlady immediately returned the three thousand dollars that Daniel had just given her. "Sorry, I have to give it back to you!"
Daniel felt insulted when his money was returned, especially in front of his new girlfriend.
"This guy really knows how to pretend to be rich!" Daniel completely disregarded William, whom he thought was a poor man.
Daniel wanted to undermine William and show off in front of Madison, so he said to Madison beside him, "Darling, how about I buy you a house in Oak Bay tomorrow? Someone like him, renting such a shabby place, will never amount to anything in life."
"Really? Daniel, you're so good to me!" Madison immediately became excited and felt even more disdain for William, thinking he was truly useless.
"Do you know how much a house in Oak Bay costs? You'll never be able to afford a house in your lifetime! How dare you show off in front of me?" Daniel mocked William with contempt.
"William, this ten thousand dollars must be borrowed, right? Now that you're out of a job, I can't even imagine what your future will be like. I'm so glad I broke up with you, otherwise, I would be suffering with you," Madison jeered as well.
William frowned and didn't care about their mockery. He remembered that Oak Bay was under a part of the Power Group's real estate, which belonged to his father. The general manager, Antony, was his assistant.
With this in mind, William smiled slightly and said, "Madison, I hope you won't regret your choice today."
"Regret? Stop kidding around. Leaving you was the wisest best decision I've ever made," Madison said mercilessly.
After saying that, Madison held Daniel's arm tightly and quickly left the hallway with her things.
William shook his head. He no longer cared about Madison; he was more excited about his fiancee, Sophia."
