Chapter 4
Robin was so happy as he jogged back to his hotel room.
Davis Miller came out of his room and shut the door, only to behold a happy Robin. He had never seen him this happy before, no matter how many times he tried to make him this happy.
" Daddy, " Robin called
Davis strolled to Robin and carried him up. " What has made my boy so happy and excited? " he asked, as he glanced at Robin.
Robin searched his eyes as he smiled. " Daddy, I'm so happy, " he began to say.
" Of course, I can see the happiness in your eyes, " Davis said, as he carried Robin back into their hotel room. " So, are you going to tell me, what the cause of your sudden happiness is or not? "
" Did mummy ever like the food you liked? " Robin asked.
Robin's question caught him off guard. He looked like a deer caught in headlights. He replied gently, " yes, your mum liked the food I liked. "
" Does she make great coffee? " Robin asked.
" Yes, she makes great coffee, " Davis said. His mind was filled with a million strange thoughts.
" Where is my mummy? " Robin asked with a glare.
" Robin my boy, I'm fed up with your a million questions about your mummy. "
" You promised me this morning, you were going to introduce me to mummy, " Robin reminded. " After some hours of waiting for you and you didn't show up, I became disappointed and I started crying. "
Filled with uneasiness, Davis put Robin down on a big couch and knelt down to him. " Big boys don't cry, " Davis said to him.
" When you get disappointed you cry. Daddy, one day you are going to cry, trust me, " Robin said, quietly.
" Daddy is a big man. Nothing can make daddy cry anymore, " Davis sneered. " Now tell me what happened when you started crying? "
Robin pouted. " A lady walked up to me and asked me what was wrong. I was so emotional that I couldn't tell her what was wrong until mummy approached us. Her name is Jessica, do you know her? "
" I know a lot of Jessicas. Hmm, " he muttered, as he thought, ' could she be Jessica Tyler? ' Then he asked. " Does she have glossy brown hair? "
" Yes! Exactly daddy! "
" And she is above average height, " Davis added
" Yes, Daddy. "
" Hmm— Jessica Tyler, " Davis said firmly.
" Is she my mum? Robin asked, his eyes widening with glee.
" Do you wish she was your mum? Davis asked.
" Yes daddy. Is she my mum? "
" Come with me son, " Davis said, as he carried Robin up in his arms. " Do you know where we can find her? "
" I think she stays in the hotel room opposite ours, " Robin said hopefully. " Are we going to see her? Is she my mum? "
" Yes and we are going to see her. "
" Yeah! " Robin snapped, as he threw his fist upwards.
The doorbell rang.
" Jessica, " Selena called. " Are you expecting anyone? "
" No, " Jessica snapped, from the restroom. " Check who is at the door. It may be one of your co-workers. "
" Oh, it is true, " Selena wheezed, as she placed her hand on her forehead. She jumped out of the bed. She rushed into the restroom.
" My sweet friend Jessica, I have been working all day long. I came to your hotel room to rest. Answer the door on my behalf and tell whoever is there, that I am not here, please Jessica, " Selena pleaded.
" I can't lie to them. What if it is something important? "
" Trust me, it is not. They just want to stress the f*** out of me, " Selena snapped angrily.
Jessica threw her a sharp look. " Working in a hotel can be very stressful, you should have known that before you applied to work in this hotel. "
" Don't lecture me, Jessica. You sound like a rich kid who doesn't know what poor people like us go through. If there are any job opportunities or vacancy, we go for it, we don't have a choice, " Selena stressed sadly.
" Fine. I will open the door, " Jessica said hesitantly, as she cleaned her hand on a towel.
" Thanks, " Selena said, as she watched Jessica leave the restroom. Then she shut the door and locked it from inside.
The doorbell rang persistently.
" Hold on a little, please, I am coming, " Jessica said, as she approached the door.
She opened the door.
" Mummy, " Robin called, as he rushed her and hugged her.
Jessica was in shock. It was more like mayhem. She stared at the man standing in front of her. A frown came upon her face. " Robbie darling, do you know him? Does your daddy know him? " she asked as she hugged Robin.
" If you are my mummy, you should know him, " Robin said, frowning. " He is daddy. "
Jessica swallowed hard and smiled. " Of course I know him, " she said. " What are you doing here? she asked shrewdly as she threw him an askance glance.
" Robin has been disturbing me to introduce him to his mother. I'm shocked he found you already, " Davis said with a fleeting smile on his lips.
" Most perfect Gentleman do not result in playing such cheap games, " Jessica snarled. " I wish I knew he was your son on time. "
" What's going on? " Robin asked, as he raised his head to look at Jessica.
Davis looked at Jessica with a smirk. " I'm glad you didn't. "
" Let's talk in private, Mr Davis. I don't like your games. We can't hurt this little child, " Jessica said fiercely. She bent down to Robin. " Robbie my boy, can I and your daddy be excused for a minute or two. There is something we would like to discuss. Wait for us in the sitting room, we will be right back, " she said calmly.
" Mr Davis is my daddy, not yours, so don't call him daddy. When I and Daddy were watching a film, we saw that wives and husbands have sweet names they call themselves. Names like Sweetheart, Honey, Baby, Darling and many more. It would be fair to call Dad one of those names. "
Oh hell!
What had she gotten herself into? How could she tell Robin that he was mistaken and that she wasn't his mother. He was so excited and she couldn't ruin his mood by spilling out the truth. " Okay, my dear Robbie, " she said with a fleeting smile. " But films like that aren't good for children of your age. Promise me you will watch films for your age. "
Robin smirked. " Only if you promise to come stay with us, mummy. "
" Don't be naughty, Robbie, " Jessica said, frowning.
" Okay, I'm sorry. I won't watch it again. I will only watch cartoons. "
Jessica smiled. " That's my Robbie. "
She stood up. " Mr Davis— I mean—em Davis Honey, can I have a word with you? "
" Yes my sweet Jessica, " Davis said keenly.
She walked to Davis, grabbed his hand and dragged him to a place close to the restroom.
" Whoa! Whoa whoa! " Davis said. " You can't drag your husband-to-be like that. "
" This is not funny, Mr Davis Miller, " yelled Jessica.
" You just call me Honey, " he said smiling. " It sounds better than Mr Davis Miller. "
" I'm trying to be serious, Mr Davis Miller. Don't kid around with me, please. And for your son's sake do not do this, I beg you. It is so cheap! " Jessica said, paranoid.
His green eyes studied her worried face, and his smile widened. He just kept on staring at her.
" And don't stare at me like that too, please, " she pleaded.
" How can I stop staring at the woman, who is about to be the mother of my son, for six months? " he asked as he brought out the document. " I won't force you to sign this document. I won't manipulate you or whatsoever. And just so you know, Robin has been without a mother for almost his whole life, despite the fact that his mum is still alive. And to worsen the case, she has never asked about the well-being of her own son, " he paused. " There was a day I came to Robin school to pick him up, only to meet him in tears. Robin was crying bitterly, I did everything in my power to stop him from crying, but he wouldn't. He finally opened up to me and told me his friends were mocking him, because he didn't have a mom. And there was a night I entered his room, I saw his drawings. Do you want to know what they were? " Davis asked, studying Jessica's beautiful and innocent face.
She opened her mouth to say something but no words came out. Clearly, she was speechless.
" They were drawings of a man, a boy and a lady. They were all holding hands. He wrote Daddy, Robin and mummy happily living together. I don't normally have time for him, as you can see, I am the CEO of this hotel and that's a lot of work for me. This was the reason I brought him to the hotel, so we could be very close to each other, but he's always demanding of his mum. In six months time, he will be nine years old and that's when I will break the news to him, of how his mum abandoned him. But now, I want him to test how it feels to have a mum. "
Jessica stared at him. Her face had turned pale. She was feeling sad and compassionate for Robin. He was a young boy, who didn't deserve to go through all these.
" One last thing, my dear Jessica, I love my son a lot and I put the interest of the people I love before me. If not for my son, I will never have given you such a proposal. You love my son a lot and that is why I think you deserve this proposal. All my girlfriend's never cared for my son, they only cared for my money. But if you really want all my money Jessica, I'm ready to give it to you, as long as you take good care of my son, " he paused. Then with keen interest, he said. " So, do you accept the proposal? "
Her mouth was trembling, her eyes were bright, her skin pale with what might have been mistaken for fear.
Oh dear God! Emotions threatened to choke her.
