CHAPTER 7

Avalon’s POV

I stopped in front of the Lycan, shocked that I came across him again after the massacre he led at my village. He looked older than the last time and seeing him brought back the past, the cries and blood shed that he carried out. Yes, he was young and stupid but it does not change the fact that he was still the same person.

The event of that night followed me everywhere as I still held tiny grudge over him for what he did to my people. I learnt to let go of the anger to find peace but seeing him made all the rage I felt towards him suddenly rush over me. I became glad that I placed a curse upon him. Certain that the curse was working, I felt content.

I could not possibly forget his face. I could not forget the face of the man that killed my only son, not for anything. So as elder Oberon informed me that there were people in our territory led by the Lycan, I took it upon myself to lead the witches to weaken the invaders.

I noticed a wounded Omega who was looking half dead and for some reason the spirits told me that she was a special being so I could not transfer my anger on her. I bent down, examined her injury and signaled for wizard Oberon to come forward.

“This one needs treatment, she might die if we do not help her,” I said intrigued by why the Spirits instructed me to save her

“But Avalon, she is a werewolf and she is with the Lycan. If we treat her, she might turn and attack us,” he said and it made perfect sense but I could not just get rid of this feeling and need to save her.

“Have you forgotten what he did to your hometown, I will not advise you save them,” he said, angrily. Oberon was my husband and he stayed by my side when I first arrived here. He was the one that opened the doors to this village when arrived after the massacre. Scared and broken with my daughter whom I hid during the attack. He took us in and helped me mourn my people. He and his people treated me and stayed by me, providing home for us. He shared with our pain and he was glad that an opportunity for payback has presented itself as the Lycan came in by himself.

“I understand that we can get rid of the rest of the werewolf but she has to be part of them to even be among them. Remember what they did to you Avalon, we cannot spare them,” he added, trying hard to make me see reasons

“There is something about her dear,” I said, understanding him as it took me seven years to overcome all the nightmares and fears. He stayed by my side while I battled with the memories of my loss. It was the most painful seven years of my life that everyone in the village joined hands to help me get back rid of the pain. My daughter, Anya acted more like my mother at that period and I felt sad about it, so, I decided to dedicate the rest of my life to making her happy.

Anya was 13 when it happened. She was going through her own period and anguish but she was forced to look after me. The girl on the floor who was looking pale reminded me of Anya and I felt the need to save her.

“I don’t understand, what do you mean?” he asked as he noticed how I looked at her with pity.

“She reminds me of Anya and the spirits wants us to save her dear,”

“Alright then, let’s get the medics. What do we do about these ones though?” he asked, pointing at the Lycan and his troops

“We can toss them in the cage,” I responded.

After the attack and my recovery, I dug myself into practice and trainings on how to paralyze a Lycan and werewolves. I knew that he was strong but after several sacrifice, I was able to learn and teach my coven all about the spell to render werewolves and Lycans powerless. That was the only way we were able to protect our village.

I did not know what brought the Lycan our way but coming with a sick Omega was suspicious. The last time I saw him, he came with his troops, they came seeking for blood and they took their fill. Looking as they took them to the cage, I pondered on why they came in few numbers and they looked like they came looking for help but I knew better. Given that I had cursed him, I was certain he would kill me the moment he laid his eyes on me.

The spell we cast on the five werewolves and the Lycan was one that would keep them in their slumber for days which would give us enough time to decide on what we would do to them. I understand that Oberon would expect us to sacrifice them to the Spirits but I was the head witch of this coven and I have people looking up to me, especially my daughter. I need to ensure that I am passing across the right message. So there and then, I decided to give them a benefit of a doubt and offer them a trial when they wake up.

I looked at Anya and noticed how she stared at one of the werewolves, she looked very intrigued by the man and I wondered what it was about him that struck her attention so much. She had similar hatred for werewolves just like Oberon and I was shocked about the sudden attention she showed towards him.

As I pondered on, I noticed her eyes glowed blue and the shock that I experienced immediately was out of the world. I knew what that meant for a witch’s eyes to glow blue and I was scared for my daughter, my girl that I protected so much from the hands of the werewolf was picked by the Moon Goddess.

Oh Spirits! Please no. I thought as I slowly began to approach her to be sure of what I saw.

Oberon came out of the cave calling out to me which got my attention, dragging me away from the sight in front of me, he said, “Avalon, we need you. There is something wrong with the Omega! She is fidgeting and restless. She is about to die!”
