Chapter 004 Lafite
"Beep!"
Ethan swiped open the door with his key card.
Through the gates of Sky Hill, nestled at the top of Sky Hill, stood a villa referred to as "Sky Heaven."
"This kid really knows how to enjoy life. But since he's giving me this villa as a gift, I'll go easy on him," Ethan's face showed a hint of satisfaction.
Oliver Johnson, known as the "King of the Nightmare" in the underworld of Country J, was highly respected. After retiring from the military, he formed a large team and silently guarded the nation.
However, due to an accident, Oliver went crazy. As he erased all his enemies, he also raised his blade against his former comrades. In the end, one of Country J's top personality intervened and captured the brutal Oliver, sending him to Sydney Prison.
Oliver was indeed a legend, a myth, admired by countless people, and yet, he also invoked a sense of regret.
Ethan had become the new owner of this mysterious and valuable estate, worth two billion.
"Ethan, Bernice is really thoughtless. She left you alone at the Civil Affairs Bureau and came back! Don't worry, I've scolded her. We'll be having dinner soon. Hurry back. Give me your address, and I'll send a driver to pick you up."
Before Ethan could finish exploring the villa, he received a call from Robert.
Faintly, he heard a cold snort from Bernice.
Ethan didn't ask Robert to send a driver. He chose the most low-key car in the villa's garage and drove to the Smith family.
The car was indeed discreet. People who weren't familiar with cars would think it was just a Passat worth around a hundred thousand dollars.
Diana, who had just arrived at Sky Villa and parked the car in front of the villa's gate, saw a Bentley speeding down from the top of Sky Hill.
"Woah! Is that him?" Diana couldn't help but be surprised and extremely puzzled.
"Who is it, Miss?" Michelle asked.
Diana hesitated and said, "It seems like I saw Ethan coming down from the top of Sky Hill..."
Michelle chuckled and shook her head, saying, "Miss, the injuries you suffered while apprehending the King of Nightmares have clearly taken a toll. How could Ethan, a simple prison guard, afford to live in Sky Heaven? You tried to buy this villa through connections, but it didn't work out. I think you've been exhausted lately and feel guilty about tearing up the engagement agreement, which is why your vision got blurry."
Diana smiled and nodded. It made sense. How could he live in a place like Sky Heaven?
She couldn't even acquire this villa with her own rank as a major general!
Ethan arrived at the Smith family's residence.
As Ethan looked at the table, he saw a pot of drunken shrimp placed on the tabletop. The aroma of the alcohol wafted through, and the shrimp soaked in the liquor had a pale yellow color.
This made Ethan pause in surprise. Could it be that the two bottles of 50-year-old Lafite he brought were used for drunken shrimp?!
"Look at this alcohol, it was yellow when poured out. It's undoubtedly a counterfeit product!" Jane said unhappily. "This pot of drunken shrimp, I think it's not edible."
Bernice also showed disdain on her face and said, "Pour it out, so we won't risk getting sick."
Robert felt somewhat embarrassed and said in a deep voice, "Ethan is definitely not that kind of person. Maybe he was deceived by someone. Let's keep this dish. If you all won't eat it, I will!"
Jane frowned and said, "The guests will arrive soon. Do you think it's appropriate to serve them with this dish?"
Before the words fell, a hearty laughter echoed, and a man of similar age to Robert walked in.
"Ethan, this is my old friend. Just call him Uncle Tim! You might strike it lucky if he's in a good mood. He might even give you calligraphy and painting pieces," Robert said, smiling at Ethan.
Tim is a national master and a renowned artist across the entire J country. He was a distinguished figure.
Ethan politely greeted him, and as soon as Tim sat down, Jane was ready to remove the pot of drunken shrimp.
But Tim said, "Hey, wait! Isn't drunken shrimp your specialty? Are you not fond of me?"
Jane quickly laughed and said, "Tim, how can you say that! The alcohol used for this drunken shrimp today is not right. It's fake alcohol brought by our good son-in-law Ethan, and I'm afraid it might make us sick..."
Tim's nose twitched, and his expression suddenly changed. He quickly pressed the pot in Jane's hand onto the table.
"Wait, did you say this is fake alcohol?" Tim was shaken inside, forgetting about manners, he picked up a shrimp with his chopsticks and put it into his mouth.
Jane couldn't help but exclaim, "Tim, spit it out quickly... You would get sick. I'll make another dish for you!"
But Tim had a blissful expression on his face as he slowly said, "It has a rich and smooth flavor, with a long-lasting aftertaste... This is an exceptional wine. It must be the taste of a 50-year-old Lafite!"
After his comment, the Smith family was stunned on the spot.
"What did you do? You must have found a gold mine, right? Weren't you all struggling with a debt of 20 million US dollars owed to the Dragon Chamber of Commerce? How can you casually use a 50-year-old Lafite like this?" Tim was so angry that he stomped his foot, his beard trembling.
Jane exclaimed in surprise, "A 50-year-old Lafite? Tim, are you mistaken?"
"Seriously? How could I be mistaken? The last time I drank this wine was three years ago at an official cultural exchange event in New York. The flavor was unforgettable for me! It's impossible to forget!"
It pains me to see how you're wasting this fifty-year-old Lafite. If you don't want to drink it, you can give it to me!" Tim was furious, fuming about the fact that they used a fifty-year-old Lafite to make drunken shrimp. It was truly a waste of a priceless treasure.
Jane and Bernice, mother and daughter, were left with awkward smiles on their faces, totally speechless.
"He's just a prison guard. How could he possibly get his hands on something so valuable? He must have secretly taken it from the McKellen family when he was expelled from their family..." Bernice scoffed in her heart, feeling that it was somewhat wasteful.
Robert laughed heartily and said, "I told you not to judge Ethan's intentions based on your own narrow-mindedness. How could Ethan possibly bring fake wine to his father in law!"
Tim shook his head helplessly and said, "What a shame..."
After three rounds of drinking, Robert asked Ethan to join the Smith Group and work there.
Ethan politely declined with a smile.
Bernice, observing the situation, couldn't help but sneer inwardly. He had lowered himself to become their son-in-law, so why would he intentionally pretend to have any self-esteem that wasn't worth anything? It was truly laughable!
Later that night, Bernice had a video chat with her best friend, Dorothy Bush, and vented about the day's events.
Dorothy was also annoyed and said, "It's like a toad trying to eat swan's meat. How dare this guy try to climb up to you? So many people are already interested in you!"
"Bernice, don't worry. Tomorrow, I'll find a way to make him embarrass himself. He won't have the face to see anyone anymore, and most likely won't have the audacity to bother you again."
