Chapter 02 Inheritance Confused
Ryder looked at the old man. The old man introduced himself, "My name is Scott Brown. I came specifically to find you!"
Ryder widened his eyes. "What? You're Scott Brown, the richest man in Houston and the chairman of Maple Group?"
He was a billionaire tycoon, a legend in the entire Houston, even in the business world of Texas! Did he come to find him? Ryder thought he was kidding. Scott respectfully replied, "To be precise, those titles belong to you from today onwards, young master!"
"I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused. What's going on?" Scott gestured for Ryder to get in the car. "It's cold outside, let's talk in the car."
"Okay!" Ryder thought for a moment and then shook his head. "No, it's better not to. I'm a bit dirty..."
The urine that Tom left on him had not been cleaned off yet.
However, Scott didn't mind at all. He took the initiative to grab Ryder's arm and led him to the car.
After getting into the car, Ryder was awestruck by the luxurious interior. Even before he could pull himself together, Scott told him a story that totally shook his whole world!
When Ryder's father was expelled from the Jones family, he did not become a mediocre person as outsiders saw it. Instead, he secretly built his own business empire!
The Maple Group was one of John's industries, and Scott was actually his trusted assistant. So, on the surface, Scott was the chairman of the Maple Group, but the true person in power was John.
Before John died, he left a secret will. The will stated that after his death, all of his estate in Houston would be inherited by Ryder after three years. During this period, Ryder should not contact anyone for help.
Today happened to be exactly three years, so Scott took the initiative to find Ryder and let him inherit the estate.
After hearing this, Ryder was shocked for a long time. It all felt like a dream.
"So, my father has been hiding this from me all along, but why did he do it?" Ryder couldn't understand. Since his father was so wealthy, why did he live in such poverty?
He couldn't even afford the medical expenses at the end of his life!
Even more incomprehensible was the fact that he knew the enormous debt he left behind for treatment would make him and his sister suffer!
How could he bear it?
Scott sighed, a trace of reminiscence appearing in his expression, and answered, "Sir, your father was a wise man, and he had his reasons for doing so! As for the reasons, I am not clear. Young master, you just need to remember one thing, your father was not a weakling. He was the most amazing person I have ever met in my life!"
To make Scott, a big player in the business world, utter such feelings was a big deal. Ryder suddenly felt that he never knew his father properly. He used to think that his father was a kind and honest man. He never imagined him to be so mysterious.
But for him, the most important thing at the moment was his sister's medical expenses.
Before he could even speak, Scott had already realized. "Sir, rest assured, I have sent the best doctors to treat your sister. Just now, we received news that the surgery was successful and her life is safe."
"Thank you! I don't know how to express my gratitude," Ryder's face was filled with excitement. This news was even more joyful than inheriting the estate.
Scott said again, "It's what I should do. You can call me Scott! That's how your father used to address me."
Scott continued, "According to your father's will, he wanted you to first take over as the President of Maple Real Estate, and after gaining some experience, you will eventually take over the entire Maple Group. Your father had great faith in you, so don't disappoint him!"
Ryder nodded firmly!
In the past decade, he had endured endless humiliation and suppression, and now a raging fury burned in his eyes. "Good people are always taken advantage of!" Ryder recalled the faces of all the people who had once mistreated him. He vowed to make them worship him like a god!
...
Afterward, Scott took Ryder to the hospital. Ryder's sister Ava had just completed surgery and was still in a state of unconscious rest. She was now staying in the VIP ward, cared for by three nurses. Ryder finally felt relieved.
"Scott, it's getting late. You should go back and rest," Ryder said.
"Master, what about you?" Scott asked.
"I want to stay and accompany my sister a little longer. Don't worry," Ryder reassured him.
"Alright then. The clothes you're wearing are dirty. I've already sent someone for new ones. Remember to change after washing up. Contact me if you need anything," Scott said as he left with his men.
The VIP ward had a private bathroom. Ryder took off his dirty and smelly clothes and threw them away. After cleaning himself up, he put on the new clothes. These new clothes and shoes were much more comfortable than the cheap ones he used to wear.
There was also a note left by Scott. "Master, your father left you an allowance which has already been transferred to your account."
Ryder opened the banking app to check his balance. He was shocked by what he saw. So much money! "Ten billion US dollars! And they call this an allowance?" Ryder couldn't help but feel even more puzzled about his father.
With everything sorted out, Ryder sat by his sister's hospital bed, looking at her peaceful yet pale face. He couldn't help but feel a pang of pain. She was only seventeen, the age of a high schooler, a time for blossoming youth. But over these years, she had suffered countless hardships and disdain as a member of the Johnson family. Everyone looked down on him, except for her. She always supported him.
Caressing Ava Clark's hand, Ryder murmured, "From today onwards, I will never let anyone hurt you. Especially that driver who caused the accident. He must pay!" Scott had already found out the identity of the driver, and all the information was placed by the bedside.
Sam Smith, the Smith Group's young master, a well-known second-generation rich kid in Houston.
"So he's a rich kid. No wonder I couldn't find his information even after trying so hard. Murder must be paid with life. Debts must be repaid. Just wait..."
...
The next morning, Ryder woke up and checked his phone, only to find a notification about a bank transfer. He also received a voice message from his wife Sarah on WhatsApp. "I've transferred three hundred thousand US dollars to you. It's all I have. Don't tell mom. Take care of yourself!" Her message was cold as always, but it warmed Ryder's heart. Even though Sarah usually appeared indifferent towards him, she still cared a little.
"We've been married for so many years, and I've never bought her any gifts. Now that I have money, I should show my appreciation." Ryder left the hospital and went to the largest jewelry store in the city to buy a necklace.
He bought a diamond necklace named ‘Eternal Love’ for Sarah. It cost five million dollars, but Ryder didn’t regret buying it.
Then He took a taxi and wanted to sent to Sarah.
But when he returned to Sarah’s house in Paris Bay Community.
Walking downstairs, he discovered a black Mercedes S600 parked at the entrance of Unit One.
Seeing the license plate, Ryder immediately glared with anger.
This Mercedes belonged to the hit-and-run driver, Sam!
