Chapter 04 Are You Willing to Confess?
The living room was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
Those photos were unusually clear; they couldn't be faked.
Sam looked up, staring at Ryder while trying to force composure. "How did you get these?"
But deep down, he was already in a state of panic.
He had gone out drinking and driving last week, hitting someone and fleeing the scene. Later, he learned that the girl he hit had no parents and only had a useless brother.
So, he didn't take it too seriously and used connections to bury the incident. However, he never expected that this brother would turn out to be Sarah's husband! And somehow, he had also obtained the evidence.
"This couldn't be happening! I've already used connections..." Sam thought.
Ryder coldly asked, "Are you willing to confess?"
Sam furrowed his brows and replied, "What does it matter if I confess or not? Can you sentence me in place of the law? Don't bother with these theatrics. You just want to extort some money, huh? Your sister has the same worthless life as you. Take these twenty thousand dollars and go!"
Even though Karen knew Sam was wrong, she still spoke up on his behalf, "He's just a little scoundrel. How can he be worth that much money? It would be better to buy me some cosmetics."
Ryder remained silent. He walked straight to the coffee table and picked up a bottle of 1982 Lafite Rothschild. He weighed it in his hand.
Seeing this, Ernest quickly scolded, "Put it down! You can't afford to pay for this hundred thousand dollar bottle if it breaks!"
"Can't afford to pay?" Ryder sneered. "He is the one who can't afford it!"
Before anybody could react, Ryder swung the bottle and smashed it on Sam's head!
The wine bottle shattered, and glass fragments flew in all directions. Sam fell to the ground. The blood from his head mixed with red wine, staining his cheeks in a horrifying manner.
"Ryder! How dare you, you worthless piece of trash!" Sam angrily exclaimed, holding his head.
"I'll treat you like a dog!" Ryder picked up another bottle of red wine and swung it down.
Sam quickly dodged, narrowly avoiding the hit. Unfortunately, it landed on the floor beside him, causing it to explode into countless shards that left numerous cuts on Sam's body.
This sudden turn of events left Ernest and his family stunned. After a while, Karen was the first to react, slapping her thighs and wailing, "It's over! Murder! Ryder has committed murder!"
Ernest looked at the shattered glass on the floor, his heart twisting in agony. "My red wine! I haven't even shared it on social media yet..."
Sarah covered her mouth, completely frightened.
Sam issued a fierce curse. "Ryder! You bastard, I should've run over the little bitch that day!"
"Your mouth stinks, it needs to be shut!" Ryder grabbed the necklace from the sofa and walked towards Sam.
Karen hurriedly intervened, "What are you doing, you useless fool? This necklace costs over a million. Don't mess around!"
Ryder lowered his head and glanced at the necklace, a glint of hostility flashing in his eyes.
"Stay away from me!"
He pushed Karen aside and approached Sam, forcefully stuffing the necklace into his mouth.
"You dare to deceive even my wife? You're seeking death!"
Sam wanted to resist and struggle, but he was just a playboy who indulged in luxury, and his strength couldn't compare to Ryder's who labored on construction sites every day. In the end, he had no choice but to swallow the diamond necklace.
He couldn't even throw it up. His whole body felt doomed.
This series of actions completely shocked Ernest and his family. In their impression, Ryder had always been a cowardly pushover. He had never assaulted anyone. Normally, he didn't even dare to speak harshly in front of them.
Today's appearance was truly unfamiliar and even terrifying.
Holding onto Sam's chin, Ryder stared at him coldly.
At this moment, Sam no longer displayed any arrogance. Faced with Ryder's gaze, he instinctively trembled.
Ryder spoke with indifference, "Aren't you going to compensate? My sister's hospitalization after the car accident cost a total of 3 million! I accidentally smashed your wine and damaged your necklace which can be valued at $300,000. So, you still owe me 2.7 million. As for how you repay me in the future, it depends on my mood!"
Ryder was not making things up. Yesterday, Scott had hired experts for the surgery, and coupled with expenses for the private ward, the medical bills alone were conservatively estimated at 3 million.
And Sam’s necklace?
When Ryder went to the jewelry store this morning to buy a necklace for Sarah, he saw this same one priced at $100,000. But that pseudo-gentleman, Sam, had exaggerated it to 1 million.
Don't push it!
Sam's courage had long been shattered, and he just wanted to leave this troublesome place as soon as possible.
Facing Ryder's threats, Sam didn't dare to argue. He just nodded in agreement.
"Get lost!" Ryder kicked Sam.
Sam stumbled and got up. He ran away without even looking back.
The living room was filled with a mixture of blood and alcohol.
Karen, who never expected her carefully planned introduction of a ‘new son-in-law’ to be ruined like this, was taken aback. Normally, she would have slapped Ryder right away. But after witnessing what just happened, Karen felt a bit uneasy and didn't dare to confront Ryder.
She quickly turned her eyes and threw herself to the ground, throwing a tantrum, "I'm so unlucky! I ended up with a useless son-in-law, and now he even dares to beat someone in front of me! From now on, this weak woman without any strength will be beaten to death!"
Then she turned to Sarah, crying, "Sarah, as they say on TV, some men may appear gentle on the surface, but they are actually violent behind closed doors. Anyway, if someone is at home, I will move out. It's too scary!"
It must be said that this move really worked.
Sarah could only interject, "Ryder, if it really can't be helped..."
"I won't come back here for a few days. I want to spend more time with Ava at the hospital," Ryder interrupted her straightforwardly.
Sarah felt a pang in her heart. She found Ryder somewhat pitiful.
But then she thought again. His recent actions were really terrifying. Even she felt like he was a stranger now. Letting him go and cool off for a few days might be for the best.
Ryder took out a package from his pocket and handed it to Sarah, saying, "This is for you. I have something to do, so I'm leaving!"
Without looking back, he left.
After the door closed, Karen immediately stopped crying and spat curses at the door. "Good riddance, you piece of trash! It would be best if you died out there. I'll celebrate with fireworks!"
Sarah opened the box and found a necklace inside.
Such a big diamond! It was much larger than the one Sam gave her!
Unexpectedly, Karen snatched it away and threw it into the trash bin, mumbling, "Clearly a cheap fake from a two-dollar store! How dare he show this off? It's far inferior to the one Sam gave you! You've offended him this time. Get ready to suffer!"
She walked towards the bedroom while saying this.
Ernest followed behind with his head down. Karen, in anger, slapped Ernest on the head. "Why are you following me? Hurry up and clean the floor!"
Ernest reluctantly did as he was told.
"Marrying you, Ernest, I must have been blind! These men, each one of them, they're all white-eyed wolves! It would be good if they all go extinct!"
With that, Karen stormed off.
She slammed the bedroom door shut.
